JAMIE MOORE will warm up for his crack at the European light-middleweight title by boxing a six rounder at The Helix, Dublin on December 18.

The Irish champion, 30, will have crucial home advantage when he fight Michele Piccirillo for the vacant title early next year after promoter Frank Maloney came to a private agreement with the Italian's handlers.

Maloney said: "These are a crucial few months for Jamie and a six-rounder will fill him with even more confidence ahead of the Piccirillo.

"Getting home advantage against Piccirillo is a big help."

Former British champion Moore (30-3) added the Irish title to his stash when he stopped Ciaran Healy inside three rounds in July.

Maloney added: "Although Jamie boxes out of Salford he is proud of his Irish heritage and I'm sure he'll get another great welcome next month.

"If he defeats Piccirillo it could possibly make a defence of that title in Dublin."

Top of the bill at the venue which is located on the campus at Dublin City University is Rendall Munroe's European super-bantamweight title defence against Italian Fabrizio Trotta.

Ireland's Olympic bronze medallist Darren Sutherland makes his highly anticipated debut when he boxes a six round super-middleweight bout.

Sutherland is a student at DCU but is currently taking a break to fulfil his dream of becoming a world champion.

Salford's Jamie Moore gets his long-awaited crack at the European light-middleweight title next year when he takes on former IBF welterweight champion Michele Piccirillo of Italy for the vacant title, a title relinquished by Russia's unbeaten but seemingly reluctant Zaurbek Baysangurov.
Date and venue are still to be finalised but British promoter Frank Maloney has secured the fight here, which is pretty much everything against an Italian.
The talented, dangerous, 30-year-old Moore was messed around by the much-touted Baysangurov, who clearly had little intention of fighting him before relinquishing, and cried injury a few times. Moore, winner of his last 10, has been forced to tick over in six-rounders, here and there, which amounts to a real waste of talent, but the opportunity has finally come knocking and you can bet your life Jamie will be positively chomping at the bit. His 30-3 (21) tab includes EIGHT British title fights (seven wins).
Piccirillo held this same European title in 2006 and made a couple of defences, one of them a 12-round stoppage of Moore's former big domestic rival Michael Jones of Liverpool, before he relinquished last year to concentrate on a shot at WBC light-middleweight champion Vernon Forrest in the States and was halted in 11 rounds. It was his second shot at the WBC title; Nicaraguan wild man Ricardo Mayorga had outscored him in Chicago in 2005.
At 38 Piccirillo's best days probably came and went at welterweight, where he held the IBF title for a brief spell in 2002 (winning and losing it against Cory Spinks), but he moved up to light-middleweight a year later and only Forrest and Mayorga have beaten him in the five years since. Make no mistake, Piccirillo can fight at an imposing 50-4 (30), and it goes without saying he brings masses of experience, although he is much better in Italy than he is on the road and promoter Maloney has worked wonders to lure Piccirillo out of his lair.

Jamie is all ready no. ten of the wbc and if he beats Piccirillo he should move into the top 7 fighters of the wbc.

Only the top boys beat Piccirillo, so this a good litmus test for Moores ambitions on the World stage. Whatever happens Mooresy guarentees excitement

Absolutely delighted for Jamie Moore - he has paid his dues and deserves his chance - I really hope he pulls it off - good to see Frank Maloney pulling this off.

Delighted for Steve Wood as well - Really think he should go it alone as a promoter - he would do bloody well for himself and whats more IMO looks after his boxers!!!

Last time I looked - months ago - he was about #12, hoping that beating Baysangurov would propel him into an elim. Before the Russian pulled out again.

So who dropped from the WBC rankings? Was it Bunema, after getting spanked by Martinez?

Really looking forward to seeing Moore advance his career. It looks like Ryan Rhodes is almost overtaking him, and Mooresy is a fair bit better than Rhodes.
