Calzaghe v Haye
Calzaghe v Haye
Steve Bunce has just suggested this at a catch weight of 14st 10lbs towards the back end of next year.

Re: Calzaghe v Haye
He doesn't have to put on weight he can come in light, anyway Joe weighs around 185 on fight night anyway and Haye would be 206 in this scenario.sg1985 wrote:Finch wrote:Steve Bunce has just suggested this at a catch weight of 14st 10lbs towards the back end of next year.

14stone 10 isnt a catchweight its a ridiculous weight for calzaghe to put on, thats over 2 stone ca;zaghe would have to put on that'd be silly
Either way Haye by KO within 2 rounds, no way anyone open to right hands goes longer than that

Calzaghe does come alot heavier in the fights so it may be intresting.
In all seriousness though, Calzaghe has never faced a World Class Fighter who is in his prime. Maybe Kessler, who imo is only Fringe-World Class. So Calzaghe would never face Haye unless he was maybe 40 or on teh decline, and no im not trying to slate Calzaghe, it is simple the truth.
If it were to happen, Calzaghe would probably be KO'd in the middler to latter rounds.

True, but it's not as if either knockdown bothered him in the slightest, he just got up like nothing happened.Superheavyweight wrote:190 lbs and money… it could be done, but it would be a massacre.
If Hopkins & RJJ put him down…
Not that he'd want to get hit by a Haye bomb of course, but if his hands weren't gone, you'd quite like him to put DH over if he landed.
Bizzare suggestion, but stranger things have happened. Jones moving to HW & winning a title bordered on the insane. You'd get a world record crowd for it in Wales, and a mega payday.
Re: Calzaghe v Haye
The only way Haye makes 190lbs is if he cuts both legs off.

No...he'd be a sitting target if he did that.

I almost fell off my perch upon reading this thread
No way will this fight ever happen

Re: Calzaghe v Haye
You have a strange idea of World class then. Kessler is considered at about the same level as Haye P4P, at about the No.15 mark. If Kessler is not World class then maybe Haye isn't either.observer1 wrote:In all seriousness though, Calzaghe has never faced a World Class Fighter who is in his prime. When Haye is 40, Calzaghe will be about 48. Why would he want to fight him then?observer1 wrote:So Calzaghe would never face Haye unless he was maybe 40 or on teh decline, and no im not trying to slate Calzaghe, it is simple the truth.
It is not the truth, you are just slating him.

Joe should come into a Haye fight really fat and round, like James Toney.

Still not convinced then are you?observer1 wrote:

Re: Calzaghe v Haye
Reason is why i call Kessler Fringe-World Class is because i feel although he will beat most fighters, against a World-Class opponent, he will come Second-Best.Horse wrote:You have a strange idea of World class then. Reason i said when Haye is 40 is because in reality, no way would Calzaghe fight Haye if Calzaghe is not the favorite. The only reasone he fought Hopkins was because he is 43. He may be good but facts are facts. Hopkins is passed it.
Fighting Haye at a catch weight is only something RJJ or Hopkins would do.
Re: Calzaghe v Haye
It's quite funny how people deride JC as a fraud but he's probably sitting at home now and thinking "yeah, but I'm a rich one" lol
I don't class him as a legend or anything like that but he's achieved far more than most boxers ever will.

Mate that is a really daft statement I have to say, you're implying that Kessler is NOT world class? Can you think of many supermiddles that would have beaten him, really?observer1 wrote:

And who do you reckon Joe avoided during his career? Ottke?? Do me a favour, no wonder Sven never left Germany, he'd have been beaten out of sight by Calzaghe.

Well, we know most world champion boxers are rich, Calzaghe will go home to his 'interesting looking' Mrs and his heaps and heaps of cash..good look to him.
That doesnt stop posters posting legitimate grumblings over being told Joe would beat Godzilla cos hes a 'legend killer'

Dou you think he would lose to Hopkins? Who beats him at Super Middleweight?observer1 wrote:Reason is why i call Kessler Fringe-World Class is because i feel although he will beat most fighters, against a World-Class opponent, he will come Second-Best.
Can you list all of the World class fighters currently fighting? I don't think it will be a very long list, based on what you are saying.
What do you mean when you say that "Hopkins is passed it"? Hopkins is still one of the better fighters out there, I fail to see how he is passed it.observer1 wrote:Reason i said when Haye is 40 is because in reality, no way would Calzaghe fight Haye if Calzaghe is not the favorite. I dont want to speak on behalf of observer but I imagine he is distinguishing between world class and elite class..

Yes, but he is passed it, and a shadow of his former self.banjo wrote:Well Hopkins isn't the fighter he once was but he is still a top class fighterHorse wrote:Dou you think he would lose to Hopkins? Do you really think Calzaghe would have moved up to LH had the likes of RJJ, Hopkins, Winky, Tarver etc. been in their Prime ?
No, he only did so now because they were cloes to retireing and would be easy pickings.
Re: Calzaghe v Haye
Steve is a good pundit, but just the other day he was saying Max Kellerman was an idiot for bringing up Chad Dawson's name in the post fight interview with Joe. Now he brings up this s**t.
It's stupid to even talk about this fight.
Re: Calzaghe v Haye
The silly fat bastard, has he had a bang to the head or somat?Finch wrote:Steve Bunce has just suggested this at a catch weight of 14st 10lbs towards the back end of next year.
Re: Calzaghe v Haye
In what way is he a shodow of his former self? He has picked up some of his biggest wins recently, at Light Heavyweight, with wins over Tarver, Wright and Pavlik. To say he is a shadow of his former self is ridiculous.observer1 wrote:Yes, but he is passed it, and a shadow of his former self.banjo wrote:Well Hopkins isn't the fighter he once was but he is still a top class fighter
They were not easy pickings, Hopkins was still a top P4P fighter and the number one rated Light Heavweight. Roy Jones was passed his best, but is still a top 10 rated Light Heavyweight and still had the potential to maybe turn back the years.observer1 wrote:Do you really think Calzaghe would have moved up to LH had the likes of RJJ, Hopkins, Winky, Tarver etc. been in their Prime ?

Re: Calzaghe v Haye
Why do people mention Winky?
He wasn't even a light heavy, did you see how fat he looked against Hopkins?
Plus Wrights best years were at light middle and before the Mosley/Trinidad fights.

Re: Calzaghe v Haye
Legitimate grumblings??!! What is wrong with people being a fan of a boxer? What's wrong with celebrating when a favourite boxer wins a big fight? I have never read anyone saying he is up with Ali, or Armstrong, or Robinson, or Louis. The most i have seen people say is that he is better that Pacquiao or better than Lennox - that is certainly a justifiable position.thepocketrocket wrote:Well, we know most world champion boxers are rich, Calzaghe will go home to his 'interesting looking' Mrs and his heaps and heaps of cash..good look to him.

But you get these @rseholes who think they are so clever by being negative and just slagging him off and personally criticising anyone who is a fan of Calzaghe. And going on and on about it. Maybe being endlessly negative helps them get over their feelings of total inadequacy. That's not legitimate grumbles. A legitimate grumble if you paid to see a fight and it was rubbish. Most of the people who slag off Calzaghe have probably never paid to see a fight. It's the fans that keep the sport running, it's the nay-sayers who end up perpetuating the myth the boxing is on its last legs.
Re: Calzaghe v Haye
No one's slagging him off in the manner you are saying. We all recognise Joe is a great talent, but regret that there weren't more good opponents and good fights earlier on. The Lacy & Kessler wins were truly exceptional, but what did the Jones fight prove again? All that strength and speed that Joe has - sad that we didn't see it vs someone who could extend him, especially if 175 is Joe's optimum weight.
Now with the disappointing PPV #s, we can see that the money won't be there for fighting old men anymore. I think if Joe had used the Byron Mitchell fight as a springboard into big fights through 2004 and 2005, he would have been more successful on PPV. Heck, I think he missed the "beat on RJJ" boat - when Tarver was beating Jones the PPV #s were impressive.
Most of us think he's a great fighter, but wish that we'd seen Joe's absolute best a few more times like in the Lacy and Kessler fights, and a lot of ppl aren't going to forget the bad title defences (Manfredo, Ceasefire McIntyre, Salem, Giminez Ferrya) - there were some shocking ones.

That, I can see as a well though-out legitimate argument, but too many posters on here and elsewhere go way over the topAutobarn wrote:No one's slagging him off in the manner you are saying.
