StClair denied food

Written by Uppy

Gairy "Superman" St Clair says he has never been treated so badly. The former IBF/IBO junior lightweight boxing world champion is scheduled to challenge Mlungisi Dlamini in Bloemfontein, South Africa on Friday night, but the fight is in jeopardy because of claims that the Guyana born Australian based boxer has been refused food after Thursday's weigh-in.

"This is the worst I have ever been treated in any boxing promotion," St Clair told SecondsOut. "They have me staying at accommodation in the middle of nowhere with no telephone or television. There is no food here and they won't feed me. It is five hours after the weigh-in and I am still starving. This is a disgraceful way for any boxer to be treated."

33 year-old St Clair 41-7-2 (18) is meant to be fighting 26 year-old Dlamini 18-0-1 (12) for his little known WBF lightweight title. The card is being promoted by Rob Promotions.

When St Clair spoke to SecondsOut late on Thursday night, he was unsure if the WBF title fight would go ahead.

"This has got to be stopped," said St Clair. "How can they refuse to give you food? They are just trying to weaken me before the fight. I don't know what will happen on Friday."

Attempts to contact Rob Promotions for comment were unsuccessful

I just got this from another forum and though it might interest some people. Gairy lost by Ud today and if this is true then it is a bloody disgrace.

I wonder if the WBF will look into it.

I think you will find that they had St Clair in the middle of nowhere with no transport. It was not like he could go to the corner 7/11 to get a feed.
Just another set back for a quality boxer and top bloke. But I bet you won't hear him bitch and moan about it.

This was reported today

FORMER junior lightweight world boxing champion Gairy St Clair believes he was deliberately starved and set up to lose his world title fight in South Africa.

St Clair, the little Sutherland-based former Guyanan national, told after his return to Sydney this week how he and his fiancee were threatened by gunmen in the African jungle.

``The treatment I copped was disgraceful,'' said St Clair, 33, a trainer at Caringbah's Strongarm Gym. The former IBF/IBO world champ described as ``bizarre'' the 30 hours leading to his fight against Mlungisi Dlamini for the World Boxing Foundation lightweight title.

Were are the WBF, Looking for a rock to hide under i suppose. They are an absolute joke.
