latest FW column in NOTW......

Post by shakermaker »

Doesn't hold back on RJJR "the man who hand-picks all his opponents" and FW admits "he I couldn't help wondering if Jones alleged steroid abuse had come back to haunt him"

and "Roy does not have a great fighters scalp"

errrrrrrrrrrr am I missing something here?!

Hopkins and James Toney would have something to say on this matter.

How many champs has Roy taken on and beating? R Johnson to unify, Lucas, Virgil Hill, John Ruiz, Hopkins, Toney..........

why is he so bitter??!!

A man who kicks another man when he's down, is classless. And Jones could be back up there within a few months.

exactly

I'm not gonna write Jones off just yet. He got caught and got knocked out but to write off a man who was seen as a great only 2 weeks ago is daft. If Jones fights Tarver again, he will respect his power and hopefully put on a masterclass.

By the way.....FW also stated that JC had a great chance of beating RJJR because of his power and chin......

That's right. Justin Juuko apart, a fighter should never be written off after one bad performance (how many wrote off Evander Holyfield after his struggle with Bobby Czyz!). Deterioration usually shows over a period of two or three fights. Jones ain't going get any better at 35, but he has a shout with WBA champ Fabrice Tiozzo, who I think he's targetting.

Rickys has had more hand picked opponents than probably anyone I can remember. If its not a 40 year old Ricky fights (Phillips) it some mystery guy from South America (Rios, Vilches), then we have a career superfeather in Pederson with a lightweight to come in October in Spadafora, Tackie was coming of a couple of losses as well. This is so fornicating hypocritical of this man.

Calzaghe's career has so far been a fornicating joke, defending a worthless title against bum after bum while waiting for a fight that was never going to come off. A complete waste of talent and it was Warren who's been guiding his career. If Joe fought Roy it would be a massacre.

You know, Warren exploited the fact Showtime aren't screening Hatton on June 12 by picking Carlos Vilches as his opponent.
Vilches was destroyed by Sharmba Mitchell on Showtime last year. They would never have agreed to him.

Warrens just small time. Don King and Bob Arum utterly outclass him with their matchups. Warren fears them, he doesn't even seem to want to compete by trying to put on some good exciting competitive matchups. King and Arum are Manchester Utd and Arsenal while Warrens West Ham, a big gap between the premiership and the first division.

I'm a big Hatton fan, but like all of us am increasigly losing interest in his career.

He's in danger of becoming the UK answer to Brian Neilsen.

Should we expect anything different from a coloumn by allegedly. He's such a hypocrite that it beggers belief.

He must be the P4P No 1 hypocrite in the world of boxing, although Frank Maloney is a close second.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks he's full of ****

He soon when quiet when Mitchell and Showtime said they were looking after his fee for fighting RH...............they didn't counter that claim did they?!

now they've got JC fighting a man the BBC made more aware to the public (when fighting Woods).......couldn't get a big fighter for himself so he goes and uses a man the BBC used. That is a bit low!!!

Hopkins, Jones, zoo, Mitchell, Gatti they are always mentioned but in reality we get Vilches, Pedersen and Pudwill (and not to mention kid fire) :TU:

Notice FW wasn’t even at yesterday’s show even when Hatton was there. Maybe there is something going on

Its simple frank hasnt a clue!!

How the hell can he criticise Jones who is one of the most naturally talented boxers to grace the ring when he produces nothing but boxers with unbelieveably padded records...

He has hindered as many careers as he has helped IMO and real talents like Calzaghe and Hatton have been held back and stunted when they could have been world wide boxing stars by now.

I too thought it was a little ignorant what was written in the FW column in the NOTW.
Jones Jr. beat two outstanding fighters, namely Hopkins and Toney when they were at arguably better stages of their careers.
I do think he has a point though what he brought up about the steroid allegations and the fact he seemed to choose his fights carefully, he is down as winning a heavyweight championship but the man he beat was nowhere near the best in the division and great fighters of the past notably Archie Moore and Bob Foster who tried and failed against the big boys would undoubtedly have achieved their goals had they faced a mediocre champion like Roy faced.
It may have taken the best part of a hundred years or so to equal what freckly Bob did, but with the fragmentation of the heavyweight titles and the poor quality of modern heavies you can bet it won’t take a fraction of the time to do again.
And a little nit-picking here but Roy Jones Jr. started out as a Light middle not middle.
And the Calzaghe piece raised a smile also.
I think Roy will be remembered as a great in the future, though borderline top ten at best.

I'll be honest i think his reporting should be called slag off your opponents, He comes accross as an angry man, or is it all hype, How can he take the piss out of people for having hand picked opponents when we get fed the bo**ocks he gives us, I try not to read it now because i just get pissed off.

Frank Warrens column in the NOTW yesterday was full of bollocks. Ive lost all respect for the bloke and his outfit.

Is he trying to suggest that Hatton and Calzaghe's opponents are not hand picked? Come on Frank, get real, wake up, son.

In beating James Toney and Bernard Hopkins, Roy Jones has beaten two fighters who are far better than any boxer allegedly has ever been involved with or ever will be involved with.

Frank would have done himself far more credit than to praise Jones for what an outstanding champion he's been. But no, he has to slag him off with cheap shots, to make up for the fact that his marquee fighters have NEVER beaten a top man, at the top of his game.

I pity allegedly and his fighters.

What a disrespectful attitude. Tarver knocks Jones out with 1 shot after giving him the hardest fight of his career last time out, and you slag him off. What a fuckwit.

I don't know about that, Matthew Saad Muhammad would probably have weathered it.
