hatton.........credit crunch
hatton.........credit crunch
rumours rumours rumours.....i know we hear them all the time but i heard this one from stateside !!
hattons ticket allowance for the malignaggi fight was 8,000
but only 2000 have been snapped up so 6000 have been returned across the pond back to the venue.
shocking statistics if this is true, anyone else heard this?

Re: hatton.........credit crunch
I suspect people have more important issues right now, especially with christmas round the corner.
What would any sane person do, spend a grand on a jaunt half way around the world or pay 15 quid to watch it on telly?

Re: hatton.........credit crunch
i know what you mean mate. but, there may be more to this than meets the eye, public feeling was not good about the difficulty and the pricing of the tickets for hattons last 2 US outings, billy graham has departed, kerry kayes is no longer part of the team. they were 2 people who were very very loyal to ricky. perhaps they have had an influence with the fans as i am led to believe there is a bit of bad feeling on their part (but not aimed at ricky hatton i might add)
plus..its plain to see the hitman is past his best, malignaggi is very fast and very hungry. i can honestly see hatton getting beat and it being his last fight !!

Thought there would be loads going out there to see Ricky!!
Have to say though in all seriousness - the credit crunch is biting everyone - a lot has been asked of Hattons fans in the last couple of years - maybe the credit cards are maxed out and the loans need to be paid - Hatton fans have shown their loyalty time and time again - maybe this is one fight too many!!!

Re: hatton.........credit crunch
Hows it plain to see Hattons past his best?.. His fight with Mayweather can not possibly be a judgement on that, as Mayweaather would of beating any Ricky just as bad, and I'd say his last fight was pretty much on par with the rest of his victories on average, possibly better then most.
As far as the rumour that only 2000 tickets were sold, that's a bit of a surprise if true, however somewhat predictable, the hype around Hatton dropped loads once he was handed his first defeat.

Hatton looked out of sorts against Lazcano; and he is clearly not as quick, nor as flexible as he was about 4-5 years ago. He has declined, whether that is physical, mental, or a comibination of the two, is uncertain, but he doesn't look the fighter he was pre-tszyu.HairyBoxe24 wrote:Hows it plain to see Hattons past his best?.. Some of it is because he was flattered by his poor opposition in his earlier career, but I would say the Tackie fight was the apogee in terms of skills on display.

Re: hatton.........credit crunch
He looked wobbly a few times pre Kostya aswell, not just in his last fight, I personally dont see much of a change yet, just change in who he's fighting, with 1 or 2 good/motivated performences inbetween that are misleading people to believe that it was his 'prime'.
Re: hatton.........credit crunch
Perhaps people have read about the fiasco regarding him making on the tickets last time and have just said to thermselves fack himm, he's not my favorite man off the people anymore .
Oh and i think he's going too lose

Re: hatton.........credit crunch
If Hatton were to look a million dollars against Paulie then would people concede he may just have made the right decision changing things in camp?
Re: hatton.........credit crunch
absolutely, but its not gonna happen is it, the only way to roll back the years and look special is to select an opponent that has slowed down to your own speed/endurance etc.G-man wrote:If Hatton were to look a million dollars against Paulie then would people concede he may just have made the right decision changing things in camp?
i know hopkins defied this logic, but hatton is not hopkins who is an ATG. malignaggi is not slow, not short of balls and has good skills.
mark my words, hatton is in a whole heap of trouble. malignaggi is the wrong type of opponent, he is faster than the likes of eammon magee (not as powerful as magee i might add) and a better boxer than the like sof magee, but magee caused hatton no end of problems when hatton was at his prime....
the hitman is gonna beat...
Re: hatton.........credit crunch
Malignaggi as an opponent doesn't excite me but how Ricky looks with the changes in personnel and different training techniques does. He's not worked so hard in ages. I'm more than intrigued to see if it really has made a difference or if he'll revert to type once the bell rings.rhino222 wrote:absolutely, but its not gonna happen is it, the only way to roll back the years and look special is to select an opponent that has slowed down to your own speed/endurance etc.G-man wrote:If Hatton were to look a million dollars against Paulie then would people concede he may just have made the right decision changing things in camp?

Things were already strained in the build up to Lazcano, he was ill in part and he was coming off a first career loss so i don't think it's entirely fair to judge him off the back of that performance.
Besides, Malignaggi was arguably worse against N'dou in Manchester.
Re: hatton.........credit crunch
Talk about Hatton looking bad in his last fight, Malignaggi looked terrible against N'Dou and Ngoudjo before that which despite the scores was an extremely close fight which paulie struggled very much in (no hair excuses for that). Malignaggi is a fast and brave fighter, but Hatton even not in his prime should be a league above Malignaggi who has been hyped way too much mainly on account of being able to take a pasting from Cotto and last the distance and also having a nak for running his mouth.
Re: hatton.........credit crunch
I would think so, because Malignaggi is hardly a flattering style of opponent for Hatton.G-man wrote:If Hatton were to look a million dollars against Paulie then would people concede he may just have made the right decision changing things in camp?
Re: hatton.........credit crunch
Well Maligniaggi is hardly a world-class opponenet and huge name. I mean look at his last fight...

Re: hatton.........credit crunch
Malignaggi is over hyped and if we see Hatton fired up as he was for PBF then Hatton wins. I can see him trying to box in the first few rounds putting into practice the stuff Mayweather Snr has been teaching him, but then reverting back to his rough house tactics later. We shall have to see if all the changes have affected him, and in particular, not having the Preacher there if things are not going to plan. Its a big test but I am pretty certain Hatton will get through it one way or the other. Malignaggi will lose heart after a few rounds, i think and try to survive, he isnt that good IMO.

Re: hatton.........credit crunch

It's not like Hatton is some up and coming prospect fighting Prime v Prime against a Legend is it.
It's a standard Defence against A Mandotary in my eyes.. Hardly anything to write home about.

Firstly, folks...rhino222 wrote:rumours rumours rumours.....i know we hear them all the time but i heard this one from stateside !!

2000 have been sold. TWO THOUSAND. That is a lot of tickets! To be sure, it is just that people are judging this against Hattons previous fight, but consider that Hatton V Mayweather was seen be many as a genuine clash between the two best in the world, both of whom were unbeaten, this next fight simply isn't going to draw the fans in same numbers.
Had Hatton won that fight, then it would have ranked as one of the biggest British sporting triumphs- ever!
This fight, for sure, has a lot of appeal- but I think mostly to more committed boxing fans. It lacks the "magic" of Hattons last trip. To be honest I doubt we will ever see that sort of following abroad again for many years.

But he never has done anyway.observer1 wrote:It's not like Hatton is some up and coming prospect fighting Prime v Prime against a Legend is it.
Plus there's very few fighters around that you can call "Legends"
I can only think of DLH and he's past it.
Re: hatton.........credit crunch
For the 1st time, I'm not buying the PPV. Can't afford it. If I felt it was unmissable, I'd find a way to do it. But it doesn't look like a great fight.
