Board backtrack pathetically on Hobson-Swaby limit...

Post by bennie »

Why are the Board such ditherers? Everyone uses three officials for title fights except the Board in British and Commonwealth title fights - and now they've have decided to adopt a "wait and see" attitude on the new cruiserweight limit of 14st 4lbs and resort to 13st 8lbs for the pending British cruiserweight title fight between Mark Hobson and Lee Swaby next Thursday (May 27).
This is crazy. If Hobson, Swaby or David Haye ever hope to step up successfully to European or world title level, they're going to be at huge disadvantage against men used to boxing 10lbs up.

Yet they happily let the likes of Justin Juuko get into a ring when it was common knowledge that he had to lose massive amounts of weight in a short space of time.

Posters on here knew the score before the fight, so why didn't the board?

The Board havent backtracked. They will be enforcing the new weight of 14st 4lbs. This comes into effect after Hobson-Swaby. The reason being the contracts were originally signed a month ago at 13st 8lbs. It's nothing more than a contract loophole. The Board only recently agreed to make the switch to 14st 4lbs. Hobson and Swaby's training has been geared to 13st 8.

Hobson exercised his right and Swaby should have read the fine print.
