Did Barrett knock down Haye in the 5th?

Post by ALI »

Setanta failed to run a replay (they have me guessing as to why not :-? ) of the moment Barrett hit Haye while Haye was on his arse......... had they, we would have been able to see why Haye ended up on the canvas......... it appeared to me to be from a Barrett left hook, and a decent one too, but i'm not certain on that.

Did anyone tape the fight........ who can clarify this? If he did go down from a Barrett punch, what was the quality of the shot?

whos next for david haye

Post by boxerbob »

if he doesnt get his title shot in the next fight....

id go for a big guy about the same size of klitsckos eg: dimentrenko , this fight would be very dangerous for haye but a very good eliminator for the world title

other rated names....maybe john ruiz , i know hew not the size of klitsckos but there not many other heavies out there , maye be james toney as he fights tony thompson in december.

personally i think we will see haye vs wladimir klitscko in the next haye fight as i think wladimir will ko rahman

any other names????

Over on Second's Out and the BBC they are saying it was a slip........... i'm still not convinced though, would like to see a replay for my own eye's.

Setanta done a poor job with the replay's tonight, to slow in comming and not enough of them!

Peter be a much harder fighter than Barrett. I know Haye would knock him out easily after Monte ring walk.

I thought the same. It looked like a legit knockdown - Haye went down square on and possibly off balance. A replay would have shown whether a shot was delivered. It appeared to get cancelled out by Barrett's follow up on Haye. All that said Haye got up and looked completely clear headed and not in any trouble at all.

i didnt think it was a knock down looked like he was bowled over to me, barret wasnt even throwing. i think he shouldve been disqualified for the blow he threw after haye landed on the floor.
You're probably right pal. A replay would have left no doubt. Haye didn't look in any distress at all once he got back to his feet.

Yes Haye go knocked down legit, left hook to the top of the head. Great reply, but Davies was too quick on the stoppage I think, he should have at least let Barrett have a chance to get up, after coming so close 5 secs earlier.

Barrett was too pumped up, he run into the ring like a moron. Haye may have been tiring but this was easy win for him. I still think a Matt Skelton would been a harder test tonight!

Barrett's ring entrance was a moment of schoolboy athletic beauty. A 20 yard dash followed by a Fosbury flop over the top rope. Wonderful. :TU:

Haye ducked a shot and fell back in the 5th, no knockdown!

Oh come on MW. Barrett looked shaky and lost a bit in his legs from the previous knockdowns. Davies was exactly spot on in stopping the fight at the point he did. Even if Barrett managed to get to his feet without a wobble, I am sure Haye would have taken him clean out afterwards with everyone criticising Davies for allowing it to continue.

Should have been called a knockdown, Haye was clipped with a left hook and went down - think it shook him, but he wasn't badly hurt.

I was sitting quite a ways back though, so not the clearest view.

Nothing wrong with the stoppage for me, Barrett had been down five times and was hurt every time Haye landed a solid shot, the fight was only going one way at that stage.

Thought Haye was struggling before he got that first knockdown - but his power is a massive leveller. I think he will find it hard against Wlad though to land those shots, but if he manages to put a big one on Wlad, I think he will put him over.

Haye and Davies both said it was a knockdown, but the punch on the floor meant he stopped the count.

Why didn't he stop the count when Haye hit Barrett when he was down?

Funny how he didn't stop the count when Haye hit Barrett on the floor - or deduct a point. I'm not aware of any ruling which allows you to 'remove' a knockdown because someone follows up while their opponent is down. Very dodgy there. I dont like seeing that, I know it happens a lot in the sport, but it doesn't make it right.

Haye was given a long time to recover as well - definitely long enough to clear his head.

We used Sky plus-it appeared to be a slip followed by a punch when David was down.

Regardless of if it was a legit knockdown or not, Barrett clear hit Haye when he was down. Haye did seem hurt after that, presumably by the blow whilst he was down. Shame on Setanta for not showing any reply.

Also, crazy Setanta - not showing adverts during the Rhodes fight, but then putting them on between round during the main event!

Yep I can see Haye being demolished against Wlad should he get past Vitali. It's going to be one of those brutal highlight KO's, straight down the pipe. Gotta respect Haye though, some marbles.
