Even if Haye got KD in the 5th, he recovered well.
Was as good a heavyweight debut as anyone could as for.

You have to admire his style - he just went for it and made for an exciting fight. Audley would be panicstricken!

I think he showed substantial power consiering he didn't land many flush shots.
Most of the shots that had Monte over were "clipping shots".

Remember, Monte blows hot and cold. Wlad had him down 5 times in similar fashion back in the day, and no one disregards Wlads power do they?
He has also gone the distance with some bangers too.
Pretty good performance form Haye, and lets be honest, the public want to see a Heavy who goes for it more than anything else in Boxing.

I thought it was impressive, except for the KD - that was a worry, it was a KD and he was hurt.

Nobody does that to Barrett, Klitchsko gave Barrett a systematic beating - wore Barrett down, Haye was much more economic and more powerful - nobody hurts Barrett with single shots as early as the 3rd.

I would like to see more workrate from Haye and his chin is a worry.

My thoughts exactly. They opened the show with Craig Stephen, the MC that did the first Hayemaker show, that was the first time we had seen him on tv and I reckoned he was first rate.

He was just the same tonight for the show opener and then this guy steps in for the main events, we all just pissed ourselves laughing at the big clipboard and the Buffer impersonations.

WTF Hayemaker? Get the first guy back on next time.

The worst was the George Groves fight.
Oh deary me.
Groves was in the ring as he got around to thinking of annnouncing his ring entrance.
Then the classic line for his opponent "he comes to the ring with 1 fight" - that was it.

Didn't see Groves, it wasn't on the telly.

To be honest, mate, if you compare the intro that Ryan got at Hillsboro to the one he got last night, it was a joke.

Hillsboro is just a sports centre and Ryan got a world class introduction. The O2 is a world class venue and Ryan got a working mens club class introduction.

David Haye's was slightly better but that might only be due to the incredible crowd noise, the intro was still second rate, the guy's a dud. I know some people couldn't give a toss but I know more people who love a good intro, it shows due respect for the boxers and sets up the atmosphere, why else would Buffer be so popular. Bring back the Hilsboro MC!

I think Haye may have problems with the klitschko's he did well against Barrett but was staying just out side of his reach and whipping in the long rights and long left hooks, the Klitschko's have a reach advantage against him so he would have to employ a different style.

I think he could definitely do with another HW fight in March if nothing else he should do it from a marketing point of view.

I found it more worrying when Haye was on the ropes and trying to counter. Barrett's strength was troubling Haye at these points and Haye needed to get off the ropes, rather than countering wildly.

Haye is great when throwing lightning fast shots from the middle of the ring. He admits he's not the finished article yet so hopefully he takes whatever fights he needs, to get him ready.

Got to admire his ambition, wanting the Klitschko bros. Not sure if he's being smart gunning for them, not if his TV contract and success as a promoter hinges on him keeping on winning and looking good.

I'd wait and see if Wlad gets broken down by Povetkin - a 6'2, 230-lb heavy is an ideal target. Or maybe if Vitali messes his shoulder up in a routine title defence, and has to retire again. I reckon haye has gt time on his side, valuable time to develop as a heavy and time for a nice opening for a heavyweight title shot that he can win.

Barrett was slow and just throwing wild swings and Haye doesn't usually need 5 knockdowns to KO a fighter.

Funny how Haye didn't get told for hitting Barrett when he was down too.
While it could have been a bit tidier, did you not enjoying watching speed and power and star quality up at heavyweight? Bear in mind that Haye was promoting and headlining, after 8 months' inactiivty. He could be forgiven for being a bit overanxious.

Barrett was slow, or did Haye's speed have something to do with it? Wlad needed 5 knockdowns to stop Barrett, albeit a long time ago. Can't recall the Valuev fight too well, but Barrett took an extended beating from a very heavy man, and may have been down more than once.

He looked ragged as fornicate, but got the guy in the end. A fight with either Ray Austin or Jameel Decline would be perfect next methinks.

Great big duds, er, sorry, dudes -- of comparable size to the Klits -- who know how to jab.

Absolutely, I am sure there will be one or two who will just say he is cashing in, and would rather see him against Alber Snowski or Matt Skelton - just like there were some who thought the same of Ricky Hatton when he faced the P4P #1, in his back garden, at a weight that suited the champion. However, I think it is fantastic balls Haye is saying.

Just wish Calzaghe would have had the same attitude - I've just seen the Calzaghe vs Jones fight and I cannot believe no-one here is making a big deal that it seems like the most likely opponent should Joe continue is Roy Jones!!!!!!! It was a pathetic fight, Roy was just there for the pay day, it was awful and the thought of it happening again - well frankly Jones shouldn't be sanctioned.

I think that's one of the worst posts I have ever seen on here, and I've read most of the American's views in the other forum. He's took care of two, big heavyweights - yes, Barrett has been stopped a few times before but he's never been stopped and took apart like that before, not even by world champions and the unified champion of today. His power is there and if he catches Wlad on the chin with a right, or even a left then he's probably going down. I don't have any doubt about that.

Isn't it amazing how Spud said he wasn't go to post anymore.

But then he jumps ship AGAIN and he cannot help himself.

He can't resist letting us know through his titbits that he is part of the scene.

Something will go off again sooner or later.

Hope he does well still but that twas terrible. Haye can't rely on anything except for waiting to throw his right hand and moving around like he's superfly.

If Haye hits that hard then why did he need 5 knockdowns?

Barrett was slow, all he did was recklessly swing like he was drunk and paw his jab. Haye still got caught by those kind of shots.

Barrett was only top 10 In the WBO or Haye wouldn't of been able to pick him and he should of been disposed off easier.

Wlad fought a fresher Barrett too when he was on the way up.

So by your logic Max, every genuine puncher sparks out his opponent first shot he lands...

Barrett came to fight and he had heart. Christ, Haye didn't even land flush until the final knockdown, I guess there's your answer...

I really don't understand why you think that Haye should've sparked Monte with the first shot he landed just to justify him being heavy-handed. The shots that put Barrett down weren't flush - they were cuffing shots that landed on the side of Monte's head or even the back (Monte was dipping his head down after he got hit by a left-hand lead, thus it's is own fault). Now, could you imagine what David would've done if he had landed one flush on Monte's jaw? I think Barrett could've been seriously hurt - if those half-shots had the affect they did then it's scary to see what a real shot would do. Haye's got power, no question.

1. You've never seen Monte Barrett box before. If you had, you'd know that the 'wild swings' he throws are what makes him effective. That's just the way he fights. He lets his hands go with speed and is reckless with it.

2. Nobody blasts Barrett out of there with the first shot. He's renowned for getting up time and time again. For Haye to actually dispose of him within five rounds marks him up as a heavyweight puncher. He dropped Monte with a left-hook as early as the third round for Christ's sake! Haye never drops anyone with left-hooks. If Haye HAD landed his pet punch (straight right) then Barrett probably would have been stopped with the first shot.

News flash...Haye's even more powerful at heavy.
