Michael Gomez's £20,000 side bet with Jim Watt
Gomez announced on SKY that he'd let Watt pick any junior lightweight in the world as his next opponent for a side wager of £20k.
Gomez may have found a formula to turn money into shit.
Also, what the fornicate was Barry McGuigan saying "Gomez might beat Carlos Hernandez"?

McGuigan used to say the same thing about Arthur. He'll say it about anyone if they buy him a drink. He's known to be the tightest man in boxing.MightyWarrior wrote:Barry has always been a bit biased towards Gomez - took him under his wing for awhile with advice, tactics etc - proclaimed "this kid has it all"
Irish connection I guess.
As for Gomez, he's boxing better than ever and is a true fighter, but he's only talking about the big boys to try and con Alex Arthur into signing for a rematch.

I remain unconvinced about the second coming of Gomez. I just don't think he's improved massively from the days when he was first fighting for the British title. To me he still has the same faults, and has not suddenly become capable of beating the top names.
Looking objectively at his fights since Kevin Lear, he's fought a shot Juuko, a totally overmatched Odamattey, a few journeymen and Arthur. He deserves credit for his performance in the Arthur fight, but IMO, it was Arthur's poor defence when Gomez got close that allowed him to win that fight. Even when seriously hurt Arthur still almost turned the fight around. I know you can only beat what's been put in front of you, but until he has had some more meaningful fights i won't believe he's a better fighter than he was.
As for his bet, Watt should take him up on it and pick Morales. Easy money for Jim.

As an aside. Gomez is becoming an accomplished third person talker who refers to the "real Michael Gomez" - bit ironic when Gomez' name isn't even Michael Gomez. I think his next opponent should turn up at the press conference with several people called Michael Gomez and say these are the real Michael Gomez....

Re: gomez
Gomez is'nt the best boxer in the world but he's mad as a march hare, I thing anyone who can box abit would kick his arse but i quite like the fact that he's willing to stand up and be counted, and does'nt mind having a swipe at other people who make matches etc.Wales wrote:he's fast becoming the dark side of ricky hatton, its nice to have some characters in the sport, not all goody goody's.

I can't see Brodie being able to live with Gomez. I just don't think he's big enough. His best days were at superbantam, and Gomez is a big superfeather. Besides i think Brodie's best days are behind him.
If i had to choose who i wanted to win it would be Brodie, but i know he'd recieve a beating from someone like Gomez.

BTW - Do you think anyone has actualy told him that his hero Wilfredo Gomez was Puerto Rican, not Mexican?!
I mean, what's with all the sombreros and marichai music? Gomez would have a fit if he knew!
Maybe he should change his name to Miguel Sanchez.

Maybe I'm being a but oversensitive, but it really winds me up anyway, if your going to take someones name to enhance your image, at least be accurate.MightyWarrior wrote:BTW - Do you think anyone has actualy told him that his hero Wilfredo Gomez was Puerto Rican, not Mexican?!

Do you wanna know what really makes me laugh????/
When Barry and Jim can sit there and criticise Dmitry Salita and say he ain't gonna do anything worthwhile as a pro, but then they can say Alex Arthur, Michael Gomez and all the other shit (at world level, come on let's be honest) fighters they constantly rate are gonna be champions. It ridiculous.
Sky boys are ass kissers, that's why I like it when Frank Maloney goes on there, or Nigel Benn, becuase they tell it like it is.
