Most powerful lb4lb puncher ?

Post by Finch »

David Haye claims he is.

Obviouisly a complete nonesense claim, but who do you think is the most powerful lb4lb puncher in world boxing ?

There's a few like Pavlik, Lopez, Cintron, Cloud, Pacquiao and Peter but I will plump for Haye - he's knocked out a lot of his opponents and they've not been bums too. The manner of some of them have been awesome as well - Enzo, Mormeck, Monte and Gurov, amongst others. He seems to want to fight the best too, and to be doing that and knocking them out is amazing.

But the thing is Gurov and Enzo could both be classed as chinny so knocking them out in brutal fashion doesn't say too much IMO. Don't think Haye has quite carried his power up with him despite ko'ing Monte either. Having said that he's up there with regards to power p4p I suppose but for no.1 I'd go for Edwin Valero.....

Why is it a "complete nonsense claim"? It seems like a very plausible claim to me.

PacMan can bang hard and on a P4P level I say it is no contest compared with Haye.

I used them as examples really - there's plenty more I could've called on. It's was just the way he took Gurov and Macca out - pretty devastating doesn't tell you it all. The Johansen and Fragomeni stoppages were half-decent as well. I know he had to break them down, as he did with Mormeck but when he stepped it up they fell. I think that's testimont to his power. I am also impressed that the two times he has stepped up in weight two brutal knockouts have occurred in pretty sensational fashion too.

I also forgot about Valero - he stands a very decent chance as well.

Juan Manuel Lopez has got to be up there, but i can see Haye being one of the hardest lb4lb as well.

Couple of young guys looking to come through Victor Ortiz, Marcos Rene Maidana,

The most powerful P4P puncher talk is just as bad as P4P lists themselves, it's all down to opinion isn't it?

There was talk in the 90's about McClellan being the most powerful puncher P4P but when you look at his record and see his victims the only ones worth a mention are Jackson and Mugabi.

Ultimately it all depends on your personal opinion.

That is right Banjo. I made a mistake commenting on this thread as I always stay away from the P4P shit. I think Manny is a beast though as far as power goes. If he carries it all the way to 154 and rocks out DLH I wouldn't be suprised.

Because it can't be proved. Sorry, i didn't mean it was nonesense he thinks he is, just the idea of hardest lb4lb puncher is nonesense.

Juanma has been ferocious of late against top class opponents.

De Leon is no mug and had never been down as amateur or professional -- and he got positively scorched in the first by the Puerto Rican.
