Obviously he looked good BUT he was easy to hit with his hands down especially with the jab but open to all shots really and he was put down hard. His punches are also quite very wide. He could get away with all this against a slower 37yo Barrett, against a quicker taller rangier Wlad he will get picked apart from range and eat something big. Vitali I just see him beating because of age

Oh and he has got HW power, but hes not that devastating at the weight

Not sure that Haye was put down hard. Seemed to be a glancing shot as he was off balance. The shot he took on the floor was hard. Often these kind of off balance "knockdowns" are dismissed as the fighter being off balance is as much a cause of going down as the shot they took.

I do share the concerns about Haye's defence and recklessness. Reckon it would take a few fights to sort this out. I think he has to be calm, and stay away from the ropes at all times.

Interesting that Dimitrenko won impressively last night, stopping Krasniqui in 3 with a body shot.

Things could get really interesting, if Boytsov and Solis Fonte get their fat arses in shape - the Klit bros will have something to really worry about

I think he will be devastating at the weight - he caught Monte with clubbing shots on the back/side of the head last night and he still went over. Imagine if David landed a sweet right on his chin - I think he could've been hurt bad.

IMO at least one of the KD's was a punch to the back of the head. Shouldnt it have been discounted, or did the ref just not see it?

It was hard for the referee, Barrett kept dipping his head down when he was hit. I don't think Haye could've stopped throwing when he did that, thus I believe it's Monte's fault that he got hit on the back of the head. Furthermore, I believe it should've counted.

It was actually great to see the focus of the world Heavyweight scene on London last night. The current numero uno on a British tv channel talking about our latest hope - the power has totally shifted across the Atlantic now.

I think Haye may have a chance against Wlad but not Vitali. If he can beat Wlad then go for Chagaev. Vitali and the monster Valuev would be asking for trouble IMO. Haye beat Barrett much easier than I thought he would though.

Haye would deal with Valuev. He'd just pick him off. When he wants to be, Haye is very accurate with his shots.

Two points.

First, the ragged style is not altogether a surprise. When Haye has an opponent hurt, he seems to be a proponent of the Oscar Dela Hoya/Joe Calzaghe style of swarming to force the finish. That's not a bad thing, because I don't think he has the accuracy, timing and speed of peak Jones Jr. or the other worldly power of Hamed, so he can't pick and choose -- as he proved in the third after the first KD. However, he tends to smother his own work when he does this and doesn't connect as cleanly as he should. We saw this last against Maccarinelli. It seems to be a problem of being able to create enough distance and pick the right range.

Second, the pressure to force a rapid, impressive victory was huge. I believe he may have fought more aggressively and recklessly because he knew he had to force an early stoppage to garner attention for the big matches ahead. It surely must have had an effect, and I noticed that he was loading up with the right more than ever.

Haye's a true warrior who's prepared to risk all. How many other high profile boxers would have chosen to win by disqualification in the 5th round ?

You could well be right, Vitali won't have been in with anyone with Hayes combined speed and power though and Haye won't have been in with anyone with Vitalis size and awkwardness. It makes for an intriging fight IMO. Fair play to Haye for saying he wants to fight the best asap instead of going through the usual 6 warm-up fights over 2-3 years against the likely lads of the HW division

I dont rate Vitaly, but his style but would be difficult for David. He'll not land uppercuts or sweeping left hooks on Vitaly and he'll need to travel further to get that straight right off. He has the speed to close the gap but he cannot, in my opinion be coy when fighting the giant, he'll have to lead the action more than he didv Barrett.

I think he could beat Wladimir though.

i give haye most credit for lines like 'Skelton and the Stannah stairlift', 'i don't want to deny the british public the chance to see a further installment of the thrilling williams - harrison trilogy' or the one with warren being obsessed with him 'like girls that followed me round in clubs but with beadier eyes, redder cheeks and a fatter wallet'

nothing he ever does in the ring will eclipse those moments of genius for me

wlad, if he fought Haye, would be even more cautious and defensive than usual IMO. after Saturday he'd fight real scared... maybe thats why Vit is saying he is next cab off the rank and not wlad...

Got to say - from where I was - I thoroughly enjoyed proceedings!!!

Excellent fight and some of the shots David hit Monte with led me to believe Monte Barrett is one tough so and so.

If it had to be one of the Klitschko's I would prefer Wladimir - he is more supsect in the whiskers department.

Getting ahead of myself now, but for the me the ideal scenario is:

The Haye camp should do all he can to make sure it's Wlad that he fights 1st next year (as I think he'd be far more vulnerable than Vitali), but put a guaranteed match up with Vitali in the contract should he beat his younger brother.

This would mean guaranteed unification of the belts (what everyone wants - even the Klits) and also means the fight is a real grudge match (brother avenging brother etc!!!)

Hopefully they all make it that far without being sparked beforehand along the way, which I guess is probably pretty unlikely :??

Wow, this is great news - 345000 views sounds like a very good number.

I made a post a while ago expressing worry that no matter what Haye did, the British public won't take to him because he has the persona of a winner.

However - it looks like Haye is gathering an intrigued casual sportsfan British fanbase which of course is essential. The Times had a double spread on his fight yesterday one page from the back..promising and guaranteed to get people talking about this 'New British heavyweigth hope'

An interesting question regarding this is - are the British becoming interested in Haye because he has frailties? Is the essence of our sporting nationality still rooted in cheering on the vulnerable? If he had a good chin, had beaten Thompson along with the others and had never gone down, would there be as much appeal?

ADAM BOOTH insists David Haye's next fight will NOT be against WBC champ Vitali Klitschko.
Klitschko was ringside as Haye stopped Monte Barrett in the fifth round at London's O2 Arena — sparking rumours of a showdown early next year.

But Booth, Haye's manager and trainer, has confirmed the Londoner is more likely to meet Wladimir Klitschko before taking on Vitali.

He said: "It's funny how they want David to fight the brother with the better chin first.

"But Vitali has to fight his mandatory challenger Juan Carlos Gomez in the New Year.

"The fight with Barrett was an eliminator for the WBC title, but not a final eliminator.

"It should see David ranked as No2."

Haye, 28, has always maintained he wants to face Wladimir for the IBO, IBF and WBO titles next summer.

But Vitali has hinted a bout with the Hayemaker will be top of his agenda if he fails to tempt Lennox Lewis out of retirement.

Makes sense to fight Wlad first
