Havn't got a clue what is happening with Nicky - if he does not get back in the ring - in my view it will be a terrible waste of talent.

But - with that said - the lad has to live the life of a boxer - what a lot of people do not seem to realise with some people that is a bloody lot to ask and where a lot of talented lads fall by the wayside in their quest for the top.

Very true Spud, its a spartan life you have to lead with all the dieting, no alcohol, training.
Thats a hard thing to do when someone is young.

Someone on another thread said that Smedley had been given his contract back by Hobson.

I am told Nicky will not be boxing on Fight Academy shows in the forseeable future - I just want to see the lad in boxing - he is a bloody good boxer in my view - but what I will say though whoever promotes and manages him will need to be "boss" in my view - I am sure Nicky will not mind me saying sometimes he has a mind of his own and I feel he really needs to buckle down and get some hard work and hard training done and as already stated he must live the life of a boxer or else all he will be is a boxer on the undercard and I think he is better than that!!!!

To a degree - a young boxer as confident as he is in his abilities needs to listen and take advice - sometimes people try to run before they walk.

young boxers need to be busy, they should be having 6 fights a year and then knocking on english level after 10 fights and british level after about 15-18. unfortunately FA do not have enough shows to keep anyone busy at present let alone a young talent.

Rhino - lets not go down the slating of Fight Academy route - I am not saying you are its just I don't want anyone else doing it - but in Nick Smedley's case I know he has been offered a number of fights but quite simply was not either in the frame of mind or was not at the correct weight to be able to fight.

I will state again - Nicky Smedley is a talented boxer who could go far if he "lived the life" - Rhino, Nicky could have fought on the Vegas undercard of Castillo/Hatton but was not ready to fight - what the hell is that all about? I honestly believe Dennis was doing a good job with Nicky but for whatever reasons there has been a parting of ways - thats a shame - now with a new promoter Nicky is going to have to start all over again - I hope he does!!!

I think Rhino's comment is fair, he was hardly being abusive

Including spud who appears to have moved on to Hayemaker. :DDD

Back to the thread : maybe Smedley needed to cut family ties to make it in boxing . :box:

Ahaaa - Beagleboy the very poor impersonator of Beagleboys!!!

Like I say to you as with everyone else - don't have a contract - never will have - and you simply do not have a clue what I am up to - the people who count obviously do!!!

But as you stated back to the thread - Nicky Smedley - are you being a little nice towards Nicky because you have aspirations of him being part of your stable :TU: :TU:

The type of boxer who needs a serious chllenge in front of him otherwise he looks like he's pissing about. Saw him in dublin, too much messing, not enough fighting. Craig Mcewan is another!

Both talented lads, the type who need to be focussing 100% or they appear to start getting complacent.

Nicky has the talent, that's been well known in Sheffield for what seems like years.
Problem is, he's not remotely scratched the surface of fulfilling his potential, and the boxing career that would follow.
My mind may be playing tricks on me here, but I'm sure he's had spells with the Ingles and Glyn Rhodes prior to FA.
I know that his dad has always been very very active in the background of his career, and whilst there is a time and a place for it, sometimes it's best to keep your distance and hand over the reins.
Maybe that's been the problem - I dont know.
His career reminds me a lot of Danny Teasdale. Another lad who oozed talent but just lost his way.
Hope Nicky does get sorted but this is a tough life without 100% dedication.

Smedley was with the Ingles as a kid but not as pro, hence the Hamed style :DDD . He might have to return to develop his career but there are doubts whether he could hack it.

hey, not slating anyone mate. take smedley off the radar and FA have not had enough shows to springboard a career of a talented lad, at present.

as for smedley not being ready to fight in vegas, what a load of bollocks, what is the guy up too, you dont turn down opportunities like that. its like a musician not being ready for last night of the proms !!!

Nothing wrong with Free Speech, if a promoter/trainer/boxer whoever is justified of criticism, then let the criticism be aired.

I'm glad you are here to right a few "wrongs" about the criticism, and in this case your point on Smedley is very valid and seems like it is not FA fault at all. However, lets not think people are exempt from criticism just because some forum members know them personally.

It's a shame as trhere is talent there.I'd actually say he is a puncher but not shown it fully in fights yet.He just needs to put his all in and fight regularly.I hope he does.
