Yes he should keep very quiet, do no promotion what-so-ever and go and fight on some undercards in leisure center's for 700 quid a pop
After all, pleasing whinging old women on internet forums is the real test of a true boxer

Khan with the right guidance and training team could do well, he'll never be a great but could salvage a decent career.
As for Lennox being chinny.......

Re: Freddie Roach on Khan (and sparring with Pacquaio)
There are still a few people who think chewing gum bulids up the muscles around the jaw, thus improving a fighters chin.
Any studies on this?

Perhaps we should meet and I can punch you in the mouth as hard as I can. After that you can go away and chew gum daily for six months before a second meeting where I do the same again and you can report back on whether your resistance has improved.Khaosai-Galaxy wrote:There are still a few people who think chewing gum bulids up the muscles around the jaw, thus improving a fighters chin.

Re: Freddie Roach on Khan (and sparring with Pacquaio)
Freddie Roach is a trainer I admire greatly, one for his ability as a trainer and secondly for the way he comes across when being interviewed. He seems a tidy bloke !Finch wrote:What do you wanna know ???the patriot wrote:Yes ..... Finch, Fatton spill the beans !!!!Wales wrote:2 F's, tell us more...
What was your experience like training at his gym?
Any other fighters you can name who was there at the same time as you?
Nosey git i am.
Re: Freddie Roach on Khan (and sparring with Pacquaio)
There are studies that have shown that Chewing Gum can stimulate thinking and the thought process, not sure about jaw muscles.
Re: Freddie Roach on Khan (and sparring with Pacquaio)
Freddie seemed like a sound guy. very quiet and unassuming. Probably one of the quietist people in the gym. Has time for everyone, says hello to everyone as they come in, whether they're a novice or a world champion. You wouldn't guess he's a multi millionaire and often in the limelight. He's there every day which i was surprised at, not just when the big guns are there though i didn't actually see him training anyone in my time there apart from MP. He would always chat as i was on my way in or out, interested about where i come from what i was doing there etc, how my training was going etc even though i was basically a nobody. Can you imagine the equivalent with a pro footballer, they wouldn't even acknowledge you !!!the patriot wrote:

I didn't actually train with him, i was training with one of his co trainers, but he was always helpfull in terms of doing hand wraps up etc, again, doesn't matter who you are or what level. Same goes for everoyne else there.
They close the gym when Manny Pacquaio trains, and don't really let anyone watch, but they let me in once and it was unreal ! Also saw Dean Byrne and Craig Mcewan training. Had a chat with CM and he seemed pretty sound, not heirs and graces i could detect. A few birds who are pro's, the standard ranges from complete novices to obviously world champs.
The gym itself you have probably seen isn't exactly state of the art. The facilities are no better than your standard gym and it's not massive either, though does have two rings. It's littered with posters on the walls of fighters that have trained there.
I was a bit nervous going in there the first time knowing the reputation and the fighters that train there, but the trainers are sound. Very very technically astute, their level of detail is beyond comprehension. You can sense the aura when you go in. I was training in the mornings about 8am (it's open every day from 6am to 9pm, closed Sundays) and the gym was pretty dead which i loved, only a handful of people training at that time and just as many trainers on hand if you want help. I was doing private sessions with one guy at $40 an hour, which i think is fornicate all given the standard.
Would reccomend it to anyone, even someone that's never boxed before as they don't make you feel out of place one bit. Absolutely amazing place and i cant wait to go back.
Re: Freddie Roach on Khan (and sparring with Pacquaio)
Thank you for that, Finch. I really appreciate the insight. $40/hour is an absolute bargain!
Re: Freddie Roach on Khan (and sparring with Pacquaio)
Yeah, isn't it.Asterix wrote:Thank you for that, Finch. I really appreciate the insight. $40/hour is an absolute bargain!
Most trainers there are about $50 an hour, but you pay them $40 an hour if you pay for 10 lessons up front in cash.
My trainer actually got ran out of town by another trainer there, long story. So i hooked up with the guy that ran my trainer out of town, he was only $30 an hour. Dunno what Freddie costs. my only regret there was not having him take me on the pads, even for one round. Nor did i get a picture with the guys there.
Dependant on who you get (there's a choice of about 8 trainers there) and what you want, my trainer took me for an hour on the pads working on technical stuff and sparring, others take you for a few rounds and get you doing circuits and skipping etc. fornicate that, can do that in my own time.
BTW - i didn't realise who Craig McEwan was, i got chatting to him, asked him what he does over in L.A, he said he works for Freddie, i said doing what, he told me he was a pro !
Re: Freddie Roach on Khan (and sparring with Pacquaio)
Before recently, I would have done the same. :PFinch wrote:BTW - i didn't realise who Craig McEwan was, i got chatting to him, asked him what he does over in L.A, he said he works for Freddie, i said doing what, he told me he was a pro !
Are you an amateur, professional or hobbyist boxer?

Re: Freddie Roach on Khan (and sparring with Pacquaio)
I felt like a right tit, but i was impressed he wasnt there giving it the big one. He was quite reserved about it. He was telling me about his first pro fight, at the MGM, he said he was like a rabbit caught in the headlights when Freddie told him he was fighting there.Asterix wrote:Before recently, I would have done the same. :PFinch wrote:BTW - i didn't realise who Craig McEwan was, i got chatting to him, asked him what he does over in L.A, he said he works for Freddie, i said doing what, he told me he was a pro !

Had a couple of amateur fights, nothing special. Incidently i learnt more in three months at Wildcard than i have in the previous few years since i took it up.

Re: Freddie Roach on Khan (and sparring with Pacquaio)
No matter how many improvements Roach makes to Khan - most fighters who Khan faces will no doubt take the risk of really going for it with the knowledge that if they connect then Khan will do the wobbly legs routine and hit the canvas.
Very careful matchmaking and bullshit after bullshit and more hype is going to be required for Khan to have his name up there again - problem is - with the help in the media I have no doubts that many many people are going to believe that Khan will have what it takes to win the world title.
I honestly believe it is going to be a very long time before Khan faces anyone of note.
I know many of you lot think Fagan is the man to dismantle him - sorry but for me Khan will take Fagan apart and as already eluded to the bullshit and the hype will then begin again.
