A tremendous fighter and may he rest in peace.

Very quick, terrific puncher, particularly with the right hand. Underrated boxing skills. Turned Hector Camacho into a runner.

IMO met a peak Chavez and was destroyed. Went out on his sheild though. Not many, if any, lightweights in history would have beaten Chavez that night.

If i remember rightly, towards the end of his career fought a lot on the felt forum cards with Mike Dokes in main event.

All in all a tremendous fighter and charachter.

Will be sorely missed.

Only saw one fight of his on TV, and if I'm honest I can't remember who it was against, but I'm pretty sure it was at the York Hall of all places.
I'll defer to one of the wiser (older!) sages, but my two main memories of him are that although he lost to Hector 'Macho' Camacho, he hit him so hard that Camacho was never the same fighter again and became 'gun shy' and just spent all his time on his bike in the ring.
However, Rosario himself apparently got utterly demoralised when his best bombs bounced off a prime Julio Cesar Chavez and was given a good going off by the great one.

Great, great fighter. Managed by Jim Jacobs, along with Benitez and a young Tyson. ( I think Tyson actualy carried his water bucket in the corner a few times ).
The second Ramirez fight was a shocker - knocked down the Mexican twice, and was on the verge of a great win, but walked onto a massive punch and was left out on his feet, staring out into the crowd.

Camacho thought he was a soft touch after that, but got a huge shock on the night when Edwin almost knocked him out in round 5.
Then the WBA champ, Livingston Bramble, gave the Puerto Rican a shot at his title.
Bramble was the favorite, a rock hard West Indian who prided himself on having an iron chin. But Rosario just took him apart in two amazing rounds, leaving Bramble crouched on the canvas, shaking his head and refusing to get up.
Think it was a drug habit that lead to his early death.

Frankie Randall in a quality 10-rounder in 1985 (Randall is still fighting of course; he fought Chavez over the weekend).
Rosario's second fight with Jose Luis Ramirez is one of the classics. Four rounds of mayhem. Ramirez came back from the dead.

I'll never forget the beating Julio Cesar Chavez put on Chapo in 1987. He just systematically pounded him in 11 rounds. Edwin's face was a right mess and basically, he never recovered from that, even though he managed to win the WBA 10stone title in 1991 when ambushing Loreto Garza in three rounds. Also scored a spectacular sixth-round one-punch kayo over Anthony 'Baby' Jones after getting his head boxed off for the first five rounds.

From the Chavez fight onwards though, he always looked like he was punching through water.

His demise was just another sad ending to a chapter from that gloomy compendium: '1001 and Counting Tragic Boxing Tales – by G Reaper'

From a Tyson interview shortly after Chavez v Rosario-

"What do think of Chavez now he has beaten your stablemate Rosario?"

Tyson "All those other Lightweights should retire, Chavez is too dangerous to fight".

Chavez vs Rosario greatest fight of all time in my opinion, even tops Barrera vs Morales 1. Altough the best fight (atmosphere, occasion and actual fight combined is Hagler vs Leonard)

Is my mind playing tricks on me or was that fight shown on ITV midweek Sport Special or something simular? I'm sure I've seen it, or maybe I've just seen highlights on some Boxing compilation I have.

It was on ITV, something tells me it was on an afternoon. I think they showed an Errol Christie fight (which Errol got sparked) live and then they showed Rosario vs Chavez. It was the full fight.

Probably a Sunday afternoon slot (I just remember it being light outside!).
