HW mythic tourny 1-

Post by Robinson »

In this weird obscure realm an alien race with master technology has
abducted the greats and near greats, even not so greats of the past
at their respective peaks....

As the battles and ring duels have been fought larry Holmes so far has
managed to win the title, though its been no easy feat.

Here is one mini tournament to see who will win a spot to challenge the
champ...

I shall post the first round results shortly.

Get your predictions in...those that care :P
10 round, no 3 knock downs.

Joe Jeanette (205lbs) Vs Hank Griffin (213lbs)
Sam Langford (183lbs) Vs Tom Molineaux (189lbs)
Sam McVea (203lbs) Vs James J Corbett (189lbs)
Harry Wills (218lbs) Vs Joe Choynski (172lbs)
Bob Armstrong (197lbs) Vs Tom Sharkey (185lbs)

Some very interesting matchups. I'm assuming MoQ rules, which would make it tough on Molineaux.

Joe Jeanette in a very close UD over the under rated Griffin
Sam Langford early rds TKO
James J Corbett by comfortable UD
Harry Wills by early rds KO
Tom Sharkey SD
Tommy Burns by wide UD
Jack Johnson comfortable UD
James J Jeffries wins a very tough and close UD

Griffin-SD (would lose the rematch)
Langford-KO 5
Corbett-UD
Wills-KO 2
Sharkey-KO 8
Burns-UD
Johnson-UD
Jeffries and Sullivan-D as I can't make up my mind on that one

And after a great series of fights we have the results in.

Joe Jeanette manages to KO in 8 rounds a game, but outclassed
Hank Griffin.
Jeanette KO 8

Sam Langford goes toe to toe with Tom Molineaux, both men
hitting the canavas. But it is Langford that wins with the KO.
Langford KO 10

Sam McVeay gets the upset win over a very slick boxing James
Corbett. Gentleman Jim manages to win the early rounds, but
after a 5th round knock down he begins to lose the rounds and
the fight.
McVeay UD10

Big Harry Wills is too strong and powerful for the clever craftsman
Choynski who manages to survive the fight with movement and a
tight clinch.
Wills UD10

Bob Armstrong and Tom Sharkey put on a vicious war, both men
giving little ground from the opening bell. Armstrong proves the
stronger man and manages to do enough to get the win.
Armstrong UD10

Tommy Burns just wins a very even, though slow fight against Kilrain.
Both men could have got the nod after the ten rounds.
Burns MD10.

Classy boxer Johnson manages to out box and smother Ruhlin who
seems overly outclassed from the opening bell.
Johnson UD10

James Jeffries and John Sullivan show very little respect from the
weigh in to the final bell. Both men, firing wild and hard shots
into the other. Jeffries the bigger man, manages to handle Sullivan
almost easily as the last rounds go by.
Jeffries UD10.

Lets see how well you gents go picking the winners of the next
stage...

Results are in...

Jeanette manages to upset Jeffries in a slow paced match that has the
bigger Jeffries frustrated at the end of the 12 rounds.
Jeanette UD12

Two tough Canadians go to war with one another in this barn burner,
Langford is knocked down to the canvas twice in the 5th and 9th
comes back with some vicious flurries against Burns.
It is Burns however that comes through with the nod.
Burns SD12.

Jack Johnson managed to lead well intially against Wills, who took a few rounds
to catch up with the slicker Johnson. For the most part it was all Johnson until
some hard solid blows from Wills put Johnson down. After being knocked down
twice in the 9th, it is after the third one that he does not recover from.
Wills KO9.

Sam McVea boxes his way to a clear cut decision over Bob Armstrong who
is unable to keep up with the explosive and active McVea.

Round 3 Matches are.....
12 rounds
Joe Jeanette (203lbs) Vs Tommy Burns (185lbs)

Harry Wills (217lbs) Vs Sam McVeay (202lbs)

Joe Jeanette manages to box and hug his way to victory over Tommy
Burns who does his best at landing the KO punch. A strong start for
the Canadian does little to win him the fight over all.

Joe Jeannette UD 12.

Sam McVeay uses his explosiveness and speed to keep Wills behind on the
score cards, it does him well as Wills reverts to singular power punches.
It is in the tenth round, with McVeay ahead on all cards by around 5 points
when Wills lands a trememndous uppercut that puts McVeay out cold.

Harry Wills KO10.

Joe Jeanette does well to jab and grab his way to victory,
he ties up the bigger Wills with his clinch avoiding Wills heavier
blows.

By the end of the 12 rounds he wins the Unanimous Decision.

He was well ahead, but he started to clown around
and grew some what complacent. The Black Panther
managed to land a clean shot and fortunately for him
it was a fight ender.

The rematch would be different...it was Johnson's
Rahman in Africa moment.
