Matthew Hatton vs Ben Tackie.

Post by stujones »

I think a fight worthy of its own thread, a very interesting one. Are Team Hatton counting that Tackie is shot? Is this too big a step for Matthew, especially considering his terrible display vs Watson.

Matthew's involvement in the whole team Ricky regime has gone under the radar.... infact, I didn't know he was with Mayweather. Can Matthew, not so naturally aggressive as Ricky, benefit more under Mayweather Snr than his older Brother.

And What about Tackie, how much does he have left. If Hatton pulls off the upset, what does this mean in terms of domestic boxing? Should he be next in line for Brook?

This fight has totally gone under the radar. It was only yesterday whilst weighing up whether to stay up or not that I saw he was fighting Ben Tackie - I was looking on the schedule of a beat up Mexican not expecting Tackie.

This could be a good fight with the making of an upset, shot or not, Tackie has mixed in much better company than Matthew. His CV is a whose who of champions and former champions. Don't know why Team Hatton have taken this as Matthew hasn't got the experience. I expect Tackie to KO him.

The Tackie fight was Ricky's last pure boxing fight in my opinion, one of my favourite fights, I really enjoy watching it.

IMO Matthew has a very padded record, always had the benefit of fighting at home against hand picked opponents. He has proved himself to be a decent area level performer, but fell well short at Domestic title level v Watson, a fighter well short of Euro title class.
On the other hand while Tackie is 35, lost his last 4,and an opponent these days himself, he is still operating in world class, running world class opponent close losing close decisions fighting in the away corner.
His last two decisions have been lost on splits to former WBC challenger Henry Brussells and current WBO boss Kendall Holt, unless Hattons camp know something I don't he is being tossed in to deep waters here, and I expect a clear Tackie victory, probably inside the distance

Wasn't M. Hatton supposed to fight Adnan Amar a while back? Why not take him on now?

He seems to enjoy padding that record of his against nobodies

Tackie opens up a short priced favourite.

How or why is Matthew Hatton favourite in this. A couple of fights ago, Tackie went the distance with Kendall Holt, he has never been stopped, and apparantly pushed Henry Bruselles very close in his last fight.

I priced up some odds on this with a bookermaker mate of mine - this looks tremendous value for a Tackie win by points or KO. The bookies have got this one wrong in my opinion - very wrong.

Hatton is shite compared to the people Tackie has fought, and he lacks the power to get Tackie's respect. I see Tackie walking him down and stopping him late.

The fact you read it wrong says it all - it seems blazingly obvious who should be the favourite here - and it ain't Hatton.

No disrespect to Matthew - but his level of competition is atrocious, and he has lost to fighters that Tackie would absolutely marmalise - so I just don't see it myself.

How can Hatton win? He's not exactly slick, he doesn't bang, and apparently Tackie still has plenty left in the tank in terms of workrate and is absolutely rock hard.

Not seen Tackie lately but given that he is now 35, lost his last four and has been brought in as Mathew Hatton's next oponent, i'm guessing he's visibly 'on the slide'. I'm figuring the Hattons think Mathew could perhaps graft out a win on workrate.

Mathew Hatton has to be the fighter of the decade who has been given the biggest amount of exposure for the least amount of talent. Even a shopworn Tackie should have enough to deal with him......... Tackie may have lost his last four, but as pointed out, did not appear to do badly against Kendall Holt (lost MD) and Henry Brussells (lost SD) in his last two fights. Those results alone should see him victorious.

Not sure, but their opening prices are the same as what you stated, just spoke to my mate, he lumped 500 quid on Tackie at 11/8 last night.

Looks like you've missed the boat, the bookies have corrected their odds now.

Some big price differences here, Boyles go 4/5 on Tackie yet Bet365 have him priced at 1/2!

If anyone is wanting to back him I would be all over that 4/5 sharpish as it won't be about for long.

Unless there is something we don't know about Tackie, I think the bookies have cocked this one right up.

Can someone lend me 1500 quid so I can have a bet :(

The bookies prob haven't cocked up, surely the odds are based on a maths equation based on how many people bet on each fighter. I imagine there are load of Mancs who believe the hype, think that Matt is a sure thing

Took the plunge as soon as i spotted 1.80, my only concern is if Ben has been 'advised/rewarded' to play the gatekeeper role. This is boxing afterall.

Plus the bookies will see Tackie's lost his last few aswell. In fact, given records I'm surprised Tackie is still favourite to be honest, this is the sort of fight where the bookies' lack of boxing knowledge is really shown up.

Hopefully legions of disbelieving Mancs will think this is a steal for Hatton and bet on him, or get confused about which Hatton is fighting who, or something.
