Ricky Hatton - Spolier!!!

Post by Spud »

That for me was Ricky Hatton's best performance of his career.

I was convinced he would lose - I got that one badly wrong.

Thought Ricky looked strong throughout and made Malanaggi look very ordinary.

Excellent performance - Well Done Ricky!!!

Did exactly what I expected him to tbh.

Doesn't change anything about how he would do with DLH, Pac or Floyd imo. They're bigger hitters and bigger risk-takers than Malig.

Well done Ricky.

Hatton Vs Paulie Post Fight Discussion

Post by Cannibal »

Solid performance from Hatton, but I wonder if most of that was down to Paulie's lack of power. If you want a hope against Hatton you need to at least carry enough power to make him think twice about lunging those left hooks non stop.

Didn't seem to throw anywhere near the amount of body shots he normally does.

I was also surprised that he rocked Paulie to the head so often. Hatton very rarely hurts anybody to the head but any time he landed cleanly, Paulie looked badly hurt. This is the same guy who went toe to toe with Cotto at times who is by far a more concussive puncher than Hatton.

Overall good performance, but DLH still destroys him. If I'm Hatton, I'm hoping for a Pacquiao win because at least he'll have the physical strength and might be able to talk it back down to 140.

DLH, Pac, and Floyd would still beat Hatton. There's no doubt about that.

I shudder to think What Marg or Cotto would do.

What sruck me was Malanaggi never threw a right hand all fight!!!

Hatton looked far too strong and surprisingly Malanaggi did not know what the f*ck to do!!!

Hatton highly impressive against a bloke who bottled it in my book - nothing taken away from Hatton though with all the circumstances with change of trainer and previous poor performances that is why I have that as Hatton's best performance - he swamped Malanaggi and negated anything Malanaggi had to offer.

I will never tip another fight again!!!

could never see how paulie could beat hatton as he had no power.

had it 9-1 at time of stoppage to hatton.

jim watt said it perfect - he can never see a fighter with no power beating ricky hatton as hatton will walk right through them.

ps: buddy mgirt done me out of ££££ tonight...had hatton on points  lol

Malignaggi's right hand WAS damaged. That is a fact. Spies in the USA made that clear.

Would have made no difference though, just saying.

Good win for Ricky, although I am not a fan as such but I wanted him to win. Some questions left unanswered though..Paulie did not put up much of a fight and perhaps made Hatton look too good.. actually I remember just five telling punches from Paulie in the entire fight and 2 of of those were jabs in the first round....what I am getting at is that at no point in the fight except perhaps in the first round was Ricky under any sort of pressure..

yeah i thought it was no more than solid.

malignaggi spoiled a lot.

but hatton was a bit off beam shall we say. :D

i still think hatton is a tough night for anyone at 140/147.

he's always been good enuff to mix it with anyone and tonight changes nothing. :shame:

I did expect Paulie to perform better than that but I thought it was predictable that Malignaggi would be hit a lot and that Hatton would close the ring off, thus forcing Paulie to hold and then sapping his energy levels because Hatton's so strong.

If Ngoudo and N'dou got to Paulie then Hatton was going to. He's just too easy to hit and can be hurt (Ngoudjo) and walks back with his hands down. I do have to admit though - he is a tough son of a gun who knows how to take good shots.

if hatton gets oscar de la hoya next id insist oscar boiled down to 144 as its halfway between light-welter and welter , oscar has says he can get to 145 so there shouldnt be a problem.

hatton was more patient tonight , that his major plus i took from the fight , he made the no.2 in the division look like nothing.

good performance

Sorry Dioufy - was not impressed with Malanaggi at all. He ran all night and never threw a right hand.

I will state again Hatton was impressive - nope excellent - but f*ck me Malanaggi ran away or ducked under the radar trying to chew Hattons boot laces!!!

Cotto was not as strong as Hatton at 140 at that point. He desperately needed to move up in weight.

I agree - he just didn't want to fight. I was also impressed with Hatton's head-movement when he come in - I have never seen it that good. He made Paulie miss a lot too, and with his natural speed, that's hard to do.

cotto paced it a lot more against malignaggi.

he started fast.

but boxed those middle rds.

plus u could argue malignaggi hadn't had the stuffing knocked out of him at that point.

perhaps the cotto fight has taken something away from paulie.

Hatton looked decent tonight, looked tighter defensively than his last few fights but he's still there for the left hook/ straight right when he's lunging in. Malignaggi, as always, was way to easy to hit for a 'slick' fighter but I still thought Hatton picked his punches well and made an easy nights work of the number one challenger at 140.

I thought a very good performance by Hatton. He did much better then cotto against Paulie.

And I liked the way he carried on punching when inside like he used to.

The referree was terrible though - he broke it up too quickly.

I agree with the most the sentiments in this thread, but I actually thought the ref was pretty good. Made Joe Cortez look like even more of a clown than he already was.

I know this will have been discussed before- but what about Paulie's IBF title? Has he given that title up, or was it not on the line?

where's all the posters who said Hatton was finished ??? I thought Hatton boxed brilliantly totally dominated the fight from round 2, I'm waiting for the Hatton Haters to come out and say Paulie was never that good anyway or the Cotto fight took all the stuffing out of Paulie, just give him the credit he deserves for once nobody at 140 would beat Hatton nobody
