Why doesn't he box like this more often, rather than mauling like he does in other fights?

he started fast.

but boxed those middle rds.

plus u could argue malignaggi hadn't had the stuffing knocked out of him at that point.

perhaps the cotto fight has taken something away from paulie.
That's because he was absolutely dead at the weight. The Cotto we see today would beat the living daylights out of Malignaggi.

Indeed.

If people thought Hatton looked gaunt at the weighin you should take a look at Cotto when he weighed in for the PM fight, he looked like a skeleton. :D

PM looked terrible last night but thats not for Hatton to worry about. Good solid performance and by Hatton. He had his game face on all night. I was impressed.

Shame there is nothing for him at 140.

sky etc... are going way over the top with their assesment of the fight. He took too many punches en route to landing his own and a harder hitter will make them tell. watt and dark were producing love juice in their post fight interview. Good performance, yes. Needless stoppage, although paulie was never going to win he wouldnt have been KO'd or hurt either.

Bradley. Crude(ish) but very strong and fast and great stamina and good power.

Not seen the hatton fight , went to sleep.

Cotto was not as strong as Hatton at 140 at that point. He desperately needed to move up in weight.
True, but Cotto was also a lot more powerful at the weight. He did look like a corpse at the weight though - he looked terrible and it was surprising that his handlers didn't try to move him up in weight sooner, looking at the state of him.

Would have liked to have seen more telling body punches from Ricky. When he wasn't head hunting he did actually block a fair amount of Paulie's shots, which was good to see.

I am not so sue.

He is the WBC Champion, not a big name but Boxingn should be about proving you are better.

I think Bradley is the most dangerous at 140 for Hatton.

If Urango can cause problems Bradley will!

Excellent performance - Well Done Ricky!!!
The thing is, Hatton made Malignaggi look very ordinary because he is very ordinary. Can anyone tell me one good fighter Paulie has beaten? He's a one-armed fighter with no power. Hatton-Malignaggi was always going to be hopelessly one-sided I'm afraid. Hatton is an A-level fighter, Malignaggi is a C-guy. He's never beaten anyone of real note and all the decent-ish guys he HAS beaten have been on the end of shaky decisions.

Eraserhead does have a point, Paulie has looked absolute tosh in his last two fights and the only major name on that record is Cotto.

I agree with your post Mark - I was one of those who thought Hatton was massively on the decline and honestly thought Malanaggi would give Hatton nightmares - so with all that said you have to be impressed with the way Ricky performed and taking all things into consideration you have got say it was perhaps Rickys best performance of his career.

With that said Mark if you are going to analyise a fight properly - you also have no choice but to express the dissapointment that Malanaggi did not make it more of a fight I concede Hatton would have probably negated anything he did but Malanaggi quite simply went into survival mode and did not have a Plan B.

Yet again Ricky Hatton proved me wrong - he was excellent and deserves all the praise in the world.

I thought Hatton would win, but I didnt expect him to do so well. Mallignaggi is a bit of an awkward fighter but Hatton was in total control throughout. Hatton has fought far better opponents than PM in the past in much tougher fights but it was nevertheless still well worth watching. Oscar versus Hatton at "The Wembley" if it happens would be great for boxing but I cant see Hatton winning it.

I'm not being an after-timer, either. I thought this fight was a mis-match the moment it was first talked about. Paulie's mouth makes people believe he's a far better fighter than he actually is. Watch the fights. I have never been impressed by anything Paulie's done at a decent level. His whole career revolves around a one-sided pasting from a weight-drained Miguel Cotto. Whoopee.

I couldn't believe people had this down as a competitive fight and some even had Malignaggi as favourite! I don't care how old Tszyu and Castillo were, Hatton's at least mixed in elite class and come out on top. Paulie was always a poor man's Luis Collazo for me. Never a danger in the slightest.

Malignaggi called Hatton a 'club fighter'? Oh, the irony.

I'm delighted that Hatton won and in that fashion. But he looked so vunreble and easy to catch!
I pray that hatton doesn't go up to 147/fight oscar!
Ricky remains at 140 and fights marquez would be sick or go at it with pacman!
Hatton is one tough mother fukkah. So what did floyd snr teach him then? I saw no defense, lol.

Yet again the Hatton haters seem to show some criticisms..... Hatton struggled against Urango? Where.

Have to say - Well done Ricky and well done Floyd... Never rated him as a coach but I think it showed Hatton needed a coach and Floyd has brought Hatton to a career best display. Hatton looked the strongest I have ever seen him, Cotto couldn't manage to bully Malignaggi like that. Malignaggi, for all his faults, is a tough old so and so - but he felt the power early and didn't fancy it.

I'm glad Hatton showed Billy the respect he deserved in the Post fight interview with Sky, but it looks like the right decision to move on and freshen up.

Hatton got sharper as the fight went on, showed his 12 round engine is back.

Best display out of the British trilogy.

I do think DLH, Cotto and the like are too big, and Mayweather too good..... but I would love to see Judah (who might be considered the most dangerous 140lber) or if Pacquiao holds his own in December then Pacquiao at 140 lbs... and I would tip Ricky in both.

Spud, You had Hatton losing, while I had him winning by a narrow margin, so we were both wrong. Although Hatton fought far better than we expected him to, I cant agree it was his best career performance. He fought with the old Ricky Hatton determination which we were not sure he still had, but against Malignaggi he never once had to dig deep like he was forced to to beat KT.

Malignaggi was forced into survival mode.... those punches in the 2nd round rocked him to his boots.

Anyone who thinks Cotto gave Malginaggi a one sided beating better watch the fight again.

Hatton looked to comfortable in there and as usual i was sitting thinking WTF have i ordered this for.

Something needs to be done in boxing to make sure that both fighters are the same weight on the night.
its a joke.
Paulie looked like a sreak of piss and Hatton probably had 16Ibs on him and it showed big time and paulie was shit poor as well.

Hatton wasnt great or any better than he has been he was just in there with a feather duster

When this fight was announced I thought it was a mismatch which it turned out to be. The "changes" plus Hattons last performance made a lot of us think Hatton would struggle with Mallignaggi. He proved us wrong and now his confidence is back on a big high. It was a good night for the Hatton family with brother Matt also proving people wrong by beating Tackie.
