Martin Murray
Martin Murray
What did everyone think of the Prize Fighter winner? A future British/Commonwealth champ? How long til he can reach championship level?
I felt he showed some classy boxing skills, especially when he had the time and space to operate. Reckon he'll do well in longer distance fights, and seems to have a quality look about him. Very good at picking his shots, is nice and compact and should move nicely on from last night.
He obviously is very composed and doesn't seem to enjoy being rushed. This made the charging of Danny Butler (rd 3, semifinal) and Cello Renda (rd 2, final) difficult for him. Anyway, I see last night as a good lift for the 26 yo, because good former amateurs like Murray don't usually see competitive pro action for a while.

Re: Martin Murray
He looked pretty good. He obviously has a chance at getting a domestic title; I don't rate his chances beyond that. His defence seemed tight until the final, when Renda picked some good shots. With the experience gained last night, I think he can move forward quite nicely as well.
Re: Martin Murray
Looked to be the business in there at times.
Looks to have a decent shot at a pro career, not something I associate with the prizefighter series.
He looked super classy in the first bout, his work was spoilt in the second, didn't look anywhere near as good as he did in his opener, but that final bout... what a bust up.
Reminded me of the Bika/Codrington contender final, cat and mouse ending in raw slugging, only better.
Not bad for £15 I thought, A hell of a prizefighter final, a hell of an undercard for the Hatton fight and a slight return to form from Hatton... all in 1080pi. Great night.

Re: Martin Murray
Can't wait to see him fight on the Moore v Piccirillo undercard. He can box & fight.
Re: Martin Murray
He looked good, I think he could go on and win a British title.
Re: Martin Murray
Definitely a future British champ, I reckon. Reckon an English title fight might be interesting in the nearer future.
Which of his early fights was shown on Sky?

Re: Martin Murray
james Tucker, undercard of rhodes woolcombe I believe.
Quite a few have been shown on Channel M on sky, manchester fight night.

Re: Martin Murray
The TKO1 he had over Callaghan was from one of those punches terry. Callaghans eye just blew up immedietley, remembeR? Isnt that how he damaged his wrist? Remember him in olivers on the pads with one arm in plaster.

Seen a couple on Channel M, v Sovijus and Recloux.Wales wrote:james Tucker, undercard of rhodes woolcombe I believe.

Don't think Sky showed Murray-Tucker. On Rhodes-Woolcombe they showed Bhatia, Olusegun, McDermott & Henry Castle.
The presenter said they'd seen Murray very early on, so I was presuming it was before this year...
I'm wondering if it was his fight on Moore-Facey 2 show, as this seems to be one of the bigger cards he's been on.

What about hosting a VIP show with a Murray V Renda rematch? Would be a very entertaining fight!
Re: Martin Murray
Just checked my recording of Moore-Facey 2 and Murray wasn't shown on that one either.Wales wrote:your probab;y right then mate
I'm puzzled, I am.

Re: Martin Murray
Murray was on Channel M two nights ago, your best chance of seeing past fights is on there.....was on the bill with Rose, Dilks and co....
Re: Martin Murray
Was the Matvienko-Edwards fight shown on Channel M? I think Murray was on the undercard to this. Anyone have a copy of it?
Re: Martin Murray
im not sure if its was recorded to be honest.... ??
Re: Martin Murray
matvienko vs edwards was on channel m but only highlights it also showed martin who stopped carl wild in 2 rounds with a quality body shot i think this was only high lightstoo. Most of his fights have bin showed on channel m, mostly highlights,
his debut vs jamie ambler, 2nd fight was phil callaghan on the moore vs facey undercard, dean walker and mikhail bamballra was on channel m, he then fought james tucker on sky bill gary woolcombe vs rhodes (i think) but fight was not shown on the undercard but clips on prizefighter was of this win, then a return wit walker, 6 rounder with a tough michael recloux from belgium, 2nd rnd stoppage of carl wild and 1st rnd stoppage of joseph sovijus all again shown on channel m fight nights. think he is also on seconds out tonight on sky 203 at 7pm and repeated all week.

Re: Martin Murray
I think all Channel M's fights are highlights unless it's a 1 round KO!
Thanks for the info Alex, I know which fights to look for now - including your battle with Edwards which is meant to be very exciting. Shame it's not in full as it makes it harder to have an opinion who deserved to win!

Re: Martin Murray
It was a belter, though Matvienko nicked it by a round or two in my opinion. Shame, but still a great fight and I'd love to see a rematch.Autobarn wrote:I think all Channel M's fights are highlights unless it's a 1 round KO!

Re: Martin Murray
I wouldnt mind c in d full fight 2 hint hint
, was gud and throughly enjoyed it who knows maybe cud do it again, well done to martin some final take about edge of your seats and gritty performance's throughout the tournament
Re: Martin Murray
I love the Channel M boxing - its cheap, and unashamedily bias - but I do genunially like it and only wish they would showcase more - its straight to the point, the commentating isn't bad and even though its not Sky quality its pictures are better than the job Channel 5 did with McKenzie vs Haymer.
Just for the life of me cannot understand why they don't showcase the fights in full - not as if the Channel has a busting schedule.
Loved the description of Thomas McDonagh recently as "one of the best fighters in the UK".
