1) Think it was 'Pinhead'.

2) Music? Not sure about that one. Good question.

3) Cosell (he actually cut Cosell's lip during the Cooney scuffle, MW; Ledoux knocked Cosell's wig loose).

4) They stuck Cooney on the front cover.

Yes, Peanut. I think it was Norton who hilariously labelled Holmes pinhead. Norton and Holmes really didn't like each other. Norton refused to attend the 25-year anniversary of their classic fight last year.

His nickname for Homes was Peanut. He said he was going to shell him and send him to Plains, Georgia. (In refernce to President Jimmy Carter who was from the same town and was a Peanut Farmer)

It was Cosell's wig after LeDoux has lost a decision to Johnny Bordreuax in the televised ABC American champions, which Falsh Gordon exposed as a ratings scam with Ring Magazine.

They did, indeed stick Cooney on the front cover. Did you also know that in Cooneys dressing room he had a phone hooked up to the White House, so that in the event of him winning, he could be personally congratulated by Reagan. There was no such phone in Holmes dressing room.

Disgraceful, but apparently true.

I remember watching the Norton fight on TV in the States, and I only had a vague idea who Larry was.
Took an instant dislike to him though: there was footage of him insulting the mild mannered Norton, and Holmes could be pretty crude when he wanted to. Problem was, he wanted to be like his idol Ali, but he didn't have the sense of humour to pull it off. He just came over as a bully.
He pushed Norton a few times, trying to start a fight in a television studio.
Ken was just shaking his head...

Jesus, what a fight that was. Holmes' jab was a work of art.
All even going into the 15th round, both threw punches non stop - a real classic. By the end of the fight I was a Holmes fan for life. Felt bad for poor old Ken though, he put everything into it but just came up short.

I remember all the Cooney hype before the fight, and found it quite ridiculous. Cooney's management team of The Wacko twins had already ruined Howard Davis by overprotecting him and then chucking him in with Jim Watt in Glasgow (smart move). Now they were doing the same with Cooney, who had fought absolutely nobody leading up to the Holmes fight (well, three old men: Norton, Lyle and Jimmy Young). Yet many experts tipped Cooney to win!
I still vividly remember the right hand Holmes landed on Cooney in the second round. Larry bounced back, the big white plodder moved in, and suddenly Holmes jumped back in range and nailed him flush with the right. For a second, Cooney looked to have taken it. For a second, I was thinking, wow, Cooney CAN fight after all. Then his legs trembled, and he staggered around the ring like a new-born giraffe before falling to the canvas. I'd seen novice amateurs fall like that.

Do you remember the late Harry Mullan ( Boxing News ) tipped Cooney to win? I thought he must have been looking through green tinted glasses to come up with that one.
Yes, Cooney looked a huge puncher, but there was no escaping the fact he'd beaten a load of old men, then stayed inactive to protect his high rating.

In his "warm up" for the Cooney fight, Larry almost came unstuck: Snipes shockingly dropped him in the 7th, which must have caused a few heart attacks worldwide.

The Snipes fight could be classed a good warm-up in hindsight, but how Holmes beat the count I'll never know. He had the best recuperative powers of any heavyweight champion.

PS: If you ever get the chance to watch Holmes massacring Leon Spinks in 1981, look for Cooney on the ring apron taking photos of the fight. I couldn't believe it. He was acting like a fan or something, when he should have been taking Holmes deadly seriously (especially the way Holmes was catching Spinks with the right). Cooney was just a big green kid. He's found his place in his out of the ring support for boxers (FIST).
