Wow Caballero destroys Molitor in 4 rounds, i didn't think it would be so one sided.
Molitor had looked good in his buildup to this one, Caballero might just be something special.

Super Bantam might just be the division to watch this year, a fight between Caballero and either Israel Vazquez or Juan Manuel Lopez would be great

Surprised by this one, I picked Molitor to outbox Caballero to an easy decision. Haven't seen anything of the fight yet but it sounds like Molitor didn't even come close to getting to grips with Caballero. It'll be interesting to see if he can recover from this, sounds like he took a nasty beating.

Must admit I was surprised when I noticed BN picked Caballero by KO but I got that one wrong, picking Molitor by decision. Caballero is a strange breed. Either very, very good or bloody awful; who would have thought that the same fighter who laboured with Jorge Lacierva would smash Molitor like this?

All I'll say is it's good to see fights like this get made. Caballero may be one of those special fighters who fights up to the occasion. Molitor is very, very good. Caballero can look atrocious, I agree, but he is capable of big things, as the Molitor and the Sitchatchawal fights show.

Anyway, good that Showtime would encourage such a fight, and now there is no need for the 4th Vazquez-Marquez. Vazquez now has a clear target for unification - Caballero. Vazquez-Caballero, the must see fight of next year.

i like Molitor a lot, but thought he would struggle to adapt his outside boxing game to CC's reach, wondered about his chin / defence vs CC's power. and so it transpired....

i hope Molitor can bounce back. my guess is his promoting/matchmaking will go back to a very very cautious pattern so we may never see him in with someone of CC's ability again

all about levels though eh? Molitor schools Hunter, gets schooled by CC.

i wouldn't be surprised if CC gets either Vazquez or Marquez in the next year, Showtime seem committed.

The top drawer fighters are battling it out at the lower weights while we endure shot fighters, former names and so called mega fights all for the money, parading our screens on PPV. These unification fights is where the real quality is at IMO.

Yeah, I suppose we do need out stars to keep the sport afloat over here. Hence the Hattons and the Calzaghes who make a lot of money but seldom perform at the highest level.

But the ppl doing the real top level stuff, the real elite do seem to be the super bantams, the super flyweights - by far. These guys are the real hard core, the essential viewing. They have to be in a high risk fight even to get televised for decent money.

Hopefully Showtime push for Vazquez v Caballero. Showtime were not impressed by Caballero v Lacierva (Vazquez-Marquez 2 undercard)! But I think their suits will have been impressed last night.

That was a shocker for those that thought of Molitor as top class, which I did, and a lot of others as well no doubt.
Steve said he'd sparred tall, rangy fighters to get ready for what looked a tough task, but obviously he didn't spar anyone near Caballero's class. The Panamanian looked a mini Tommy Hearns in there...and Molitor looked like a journeyman, just looking to make up the numbers. A real stunner.

The ref called the perfect stopage as well, one shot after the KD and Steve was a sitting duck on those ropes - he was about to get his head taken off.

His Canadian fans must still be in shock.

not just the canadians, i'm shocked as a british long time fan of steves.
i had a sinking feeling when chris johnson was sacked a few weeks ago. the new guy, stephane, is not in chris's league as a trainer. i hate to say it but maybe SM had started to believe he was unbeatable, whereas in reality he is just below world champ class (for as long as he is tip top nick). he has made gains in power of late but he still doesnt carry enough power to KO good guys and also not enough to make fighters like cabellero think twice about launching stinging attacks. his brilliant boxing skills and excellent movement have taken him to a high level but i have to admit that the small nagging feeling that i always had about steve's potential at the highest level in the sport has found me - and molitor - out.
he will have to work very very hard to come back and advance from this defeat.

It could just be that Molitor has met his bogeyman in Caballero - bit early to be writing him off on the basis of losing this fight.

Caballero's a bad man, beating up Ponce in America, stopping Sitchatchawal in Thailand and now Molitor in Canada. I hope Vazquez will look for a Caballero fight, and hope Showtime put up the money to make it worthwhile for Vazquez. Only like to see Caballero in the big fights as he gets sloppy vs routine foes.

I love lanky power-punchers. The guy controlled the fight then was clinical in the finish. I missed the shots first-time and had to wind it back a bit. It was similar to the Kirkland-Albert stoppage in that the shots were short powerhouse hits and you needed a few views to see just how powerful they were.

Molitor was out. The ref did him a big favour.

I will watch this guy with interest, imagine he will get stopped himself sooner rather than later but there is fun to be had.

Just saw Caballero's fight with Ponce de Leon. Ponce landed about 10 shots that looked like perfect KO punches - Caballero seemed totally unaffected, and payed his opponent back right away each time. Caballero was never hurt until the 12th round, and even then he roared back and spanked Ponce. This guy's getting some really good wins - de Leon, Sithchatchawal, and Molitor, all in their relative backyards.

If he starts feeling the strain of making 122 pounds he could get hurt though. I wonder if that body can take the body shots of Vazquez. That would be some fight. I think I'd even prefer that to Calzaghe-Jones.

i hope james is right about cab being molitors nemesis. steve has been my favourite fighter in any weight since i saw him beat nicky booth in dagenham.
so you can imagine how it pains me to admit that he has peaked at just below real top class level. i fancy vasquez will do some damage to cab's ribs though. thats a real war waiting to happen.
