shannan taylor preparing for 11th february mundine showdown

Post by adamheight »

Australia’s world-rated middleweight Shannan "Bulli Blaster" Taylor is visiting Angeles City on December 7 to meet with respected international referee and judge Bruce McTavish and to discuss the possibility of being trained by Rick Stehely for his February 11 battle with WBA super middleweight champion Anthony "The Man" Mundine.
The non-title fight is scheduled to take place on February 11 and Taylor is reportedly keen on getting Stehely who trained Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao when he won the WBC flyweight title with a spectacular eighth round knockout of Thai hero Chatchai Sasakul, to train him for the Mundine showdown..

McTavish told insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports that should Taylor reach an agreement with Stehely, the American boxing man would spend three weeks in Australia along with McTavish to train Taylor.

Ranked No. 11 by the WBA, the 36 year old Taylor” stands 5’10” and has a record of 48-6-3 with 34 knockouts. In his last fight on October 31, Taylor scored a 12th round TKO victory over the Philippines Dondon Sultan in a Pan Asia Boxing Association middleweight title fight.
The 33 year old Mundine is the reigning WBA super middleweight champion with a record of 34-3 with 23 knockouts. Mundine won the vacant title with a 9th round knockout of Sam Soliman on March 7, 2007 dropping him once in round two and three times in round nine. In a rematch last May 28, Mundine retained his title with a twelve round unanimous decision.
Mundine who won the vacant crown had earlier won and lost the title before regaining it last year.
Mundine is currently also ranked No. 2 in the WBA middleweight rankings behind champion Felix Sturm of Germany and may well look to the Taylor fight as a good tune-up for a future title shot at Sturm.

I hope this is not true....
Taylor is well past his used by date, it may have been an interesting fight several years ago but there is no way the guy will have a chance. Just goes to show what a joke Mundine is.
I can't believe that his boxing cards and ppv actually make money anymore if this is the quality of opponent he faces coupled with the crap that they serve up on the undercard....

I wouldn't follow Mundine now, if he went back in time to the 70s and beat the entire Heavyweight division.

I'll be buying this ppv for sure. It's a step up in opposition and once again Mundine proving his detractors wrong by consistently fighting the best opposition available. This is a hard fight for The Man who is fighting an in-prime Taylor who's been fighting some quality opposition over the past few years. I look forward to this bout.

Just read in the SMH that the bout is due to take place at WIN entertainment centre Feb 11 next year.
Mundine wouldn't fight Taylor in 2002, but he just waited seven years untill Taylor is a shadow of his former self to take him on. Good work Mundine the rate you are going the only venue for your boxing bouts you will be able to sell out soon is the Lakemba mosque  .

On a serious note Taylor is supposed to be training with ex Illawarra steelers player Dale Fritz. Lets hope his conditioning is alot better than what he showed in his last fights, or it will be a very early night.

Taylor was at his peak when he fought Mosley for the welterweight title. How long ago was that now? Seven years? Lately he has been fighting low grade imports. He is 36 years old now.

Did somebody ask about a padded record? If he is "highly rated" by the WBA it says a lot about that outfit.

It seems Mundine is happy fighting at this level. He makes good money
taking such fights, he is always guranteed good media coverage and
a fox sports PPV. Every pub and club picks up his fights and the sponsors
seem to be there.

Without fail the average stool warmer will sit down and watch his fights
at the local while drinking an ale.

Why does he really need to risk and up his competition when the
Australian public and media affords him such accolades and support
regardless.

I hope Taylor is in good shape and does ok, but i see a Mundine tko
in the middle rounds.

Lol I missed that typo (aka horrendous piece of journalism) when I copied and pasted that article.
