Do you really think more of the general public know who the WBA title holder is? Or is it fair to say that more will know who Haye is?
Terry, the world doesnt stop when you get to Dover, yes Johnny down the pub knows Haye more than the rest, but Oleg in Russia knows Povetkin, and the Yanks know Chambers...the continuation of life as we know it in thse places does not rely on Haye coming in and saving the division, he is a mere footnote until he proves otherwise in his new category.

Hence the Russians and Germans know Valuev and Chagaev, whilst in Britain the tears will flow if Haye has to wait for his shot, in these places the names mentioned will be more appealing

It's happened many times before - star moves up from light-heavy/cruiser, gets immediate shot at heavyweight champ. Happens all the time at the lower weights, too.

If you're a marketable star, you don't have to prove yourself in any division.
Holy was undisputed Cruiser too but he had 7 HW fights before going for Douglas. The Hw's don't care about the cruisers.

Cruiserweight Is there for a reason, there too big for LHW but too small for HW.

Khan was marketable too and he has to prove himself lots, especially If a jab can hurt him.
What are you talking about? Amir Khan is a 21-year-old prospect who has never even won a British title. Haye is a former WBC, WBA and WBO world champion and the former number one fighter in the division. There is no comparison there, numb nuts. Khan moving up to 140 and calling out Hatton isn't the same as Haye (a world champ) moving up to heavyweight and calling out a Klitschko.

'The heavyweights don't care about the cruisers', huh? Then why are the Klitschkos so actively pursuing the Haye fight in 2009? They know Haye is just the kind of nemesis they need to cement their reputations as the best in the world. Haye has captured the public's imagination and the Klitchkos know it. They're very clever businessmen and, in a sense, need Haye just as much as he needs the big Ukrainians.

Holyfield chose to take seven fights before a title and that was his decision. Bob Foster went straight for the jugular twice. That was his decision. All I know is the clamour for a cruiser/light-heavy champ moving up to heavy will always be there.

i think david haye is exciting property and most people know it. everyone is waiting for the next big thing in the heavyweight division and Haye looks like someone to give it a shot.

anyway wasn't he WBO champ, and dont they give them the right to have an automatic shot at the holder of the belt at the division above them?

joan guzman anybody

Well argued, I would however argue that Valuev and Chagaev, when fit are not seen as dull...Christ, the Germans grew up with Henry Maske and Sven Ottke, they like the names and the fact they fight in Germany, being exciting isnt a pre requisite...

I would also disagree that they know more about him than Povetkin, but that cant be decided either way without a vote!! :TU:

I believe the Klits want David because he is a big name at Cruiser, has a good mouth and will be an easy win, if he loads up like he did againnst Barrett then he gets decked, if he doesnt he loses a battle of skill...

My worry for Dave is that he will get an early shot, get destroyed, be written off as a chinny cruiser and have no grounding at the weight that means he can come back, it off to the land of oblivion..

One of the questions I asked is whether Haye cares, he isn't in for the long haul, i could see him retired before Ricky and as a nation I dont think we need that

On the Paul Williams-Verno Phillips card this Saturday in Ontario, California, local heavyweight thumper Chris Arreola steps closer to a major world title shot when he meets Travis Walker in a 12-round IBF title eliminator.
Unbeaten Arreola, seeking to become the first man of Mexican origin to lift a 'world' heavyweight belt, has stepped up his opposition this year with wins over Cliff Couser, Israel Garcia and previously unbeaten Chazz Witherspoon. He is big and strong, rough and tough, clearly carries a dig at 25-0 (22) but lacks natural ability and speed. Someone like David Haye would embarrass him. Manuel Ramos would have laughed him right out of the ring.
Still, the 27-year-old comes to fight and should find a ready target in Houston man Walker, who comes to fight himself at a solid 28-1-1 (22) and snapped the unbeaten record of former amateur rival Jason Estrada on a majority eight-round decision back in 2006, for probably his best win. His one loss was controversial. Miami southpaw TJ Wilson rushed out and pinned him in a corner in October 2007 and referee Raul Caiz dived in - after 15 seconds. Walker belted Wilson in two rounds in a quick rematch.
This one will probably be exciting, in a heavyweight sort of exciting, raw and sloppy but earnest. To me Walker looks a lot older than his 29 years, and Arreola should wear him down and force a late stoppage.

Haye knows his biggest payday ever will probably be against one of the Klitschos and won,t risk getting sparked by a lesser opponent before this happens .
Spinks,Foster,Jones and Holyfield all made plenty of defences before moving up where as Haye won two titles against a past his best champion and defended it once.
Hese hardly an all time cruiser weight great and personally I think hese in a rush to get his shot and get out of the game.
Klits both fancy it as they,ll see it as an easy defence.

Why don't you email him on his website - I am sure he will get back to you.

You question Hayes longevity within the sport - you are right to as I did as well, and, by christ I was answered big time not by small talk but by simply opening my eyes and seeing what is going on behind the scenes - Hayes own career path as well as his new promotional firm.

If you notice Hayes career path it would have been a lot longer if he was prepared to take the route of padding his record with endless meaningless fights - look how long he has been a professional boxer - look at what titles he has fought for - and now look at what fights he genuinally wants to fight in, and, is presently negoitiating for along with his manager and trainer Adam Booth - bear in mind Haye could have stayed at Cruiserweight and earnt a fair amount of money but he chose to step up to the mark at Heavyweight.

But regardless of how long his ring career will last for - I am totally convinced that Hayemaker Promotions are here to stay - some will doubt that - however how many other boxers have we seen start a promotional firm & actually achieve getting a TV contract for the firm which does not involve himself boxing - Hayemaker has achieved that and will put on a number of shows on Setanta TV which will not feature David Haye - if Hayemaker actually get the huge fights this year involving Haye then watch the promotional firm get even bigger - look what Lennox Lewis did for Panix Promotions for a fair amount of time - albeit that went down the swanny due to "In house" problems.

Pocket - Regardless of how many questions you and others have concerning the longevity of Hayes career within the ring actually fighting - I am totally convinced the promotional firm will last a lot longer as firm foundations are already in place and the firm is growing as we speak with a decent stable of fighters.

Pocket - if Haye was to lose unexpectedly and decide to retire and not have his promotional firm then I agree British Boxing does not need that - but seriously mate - look at Hayemaker Promotions and watch them progress and also watch their signings!!!

I also have to add - I hope Maloney Promotions, Hennessy Sports continue as they are and Matchroom Sports carry on as they are - I obviously also hope Fight Academy get back into the fray somehow - because along with Hayemaker Boxing it will be great to see the stranglehold a certain promotional firm ONCE HAD on the sport well and truly broken!!! - it would also be great if someone like Steve Wood decided to join the fray - I have always stated he would make a dam good "Main Stream" promoter.

May well do that Spud, I do wish David and Hayemaker promotions all the luck in the world, some on here have taken this as an attack on David, you havn't and I appreciate your detailed response!

My worry is that Haye gets banged, he retires, runs a great promo company but we are stuck with our three big names retiring inside a year...and as we stand I'm struggling to see where the sure-fire champs are coming from...

But I maintain, the credibility of the fight will be helped by David fighting a big name first....because if he doesnt, he and a lot of his loyal loyal fans on here will end up with egg on their faces..I think he deserves better

Hello Mate!!! :TU:

I added the following on the end of my post which I genuinally mean as would any other boxing nutcase who cares about the sport:
