Crimewatch right now...

Post by bennie »

Crimewatch on BBC One at the moment will be showing a reconstruction of the tragic murder of Coventry boxing trainer Joe Montague last year. Montague was shot in a Coventry Street and the killer(s) have never been found. Joe trained Neil Simpson and Dean Pithie among others.

I saw this and was shocked by the reconstruction. It looked like a gangland execution as the tabloids call em, especially considering the weapon and ammo involved.

Very sad that no solid leads on his murderers have come to light....

You dont pump six shots into someone, outside there house at point blank range, unless they have upset someone.

Wonder what the motive was. Any ideas?

If you mix in the wrong circles this is what happens.

Innocent people don't get executed in the UK by purely being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Generally that's true, but do remember where one housewife got gunned down on her doorstep by Chechens who were actually after her sister :o

It's boxing-orientated. Montague was followed home from the show the night he was shot. There's rumours everywhere, one being a rival boxing promoter in Coventry is behind it.
Montague was shot in June 2003. In July 2003, Coventry boxer Shane Junior was also targetted by a gunman but survived (it was the second shooting attempt on Junior's life).
In October 2003, Coventry boxing man Robert Henry was 'hit' in Thailand. Henry's body was found peppered with bullets in a canal in Pattaya. He had been at the same show in Coventry on June 8, the night Joe Montague was murdered.

Could it have been drug related? Did Montague have previous links to the IRA? Yet the Police have no clue 12 months on.

Hmmm.. but why such violent measures between low level boxing promoters. It's not like it could be a war over who commands million pound fight contracts.

Shane Junior? ..Shane WHO? Why would anyone want to shoot him? I can't believe it would be domestic rivalry related to the fight business.

It's all drugs related, no question.

I saw the man who many allege is behind the slaying of Montague at ringside in Rugby recently (just down the road from Coventry). Jesus! He looks like Lennie MacLean and was clearly a man to be respected. Every hard-looking guy in the hall went up to acknowledge him in a way that left no doubt as to their total and utter deference for the man.
None of them dared sneak an eyeful at his busty blonde companion.
As for Shane Junior. Everybody knows who he is in Cov. He's a genuine hard man who would chin anyone at the drop of a hat, and wouldn't be scared to stand up to anyone either. When an attempt was made on his life just a month after Montague was murdered, he was shot at with a sawn-off shotgun through his front lounge window while holding his baby in his arms. Fortunately, he and the the baby were unharmed.
Incidentally, up to 50 people have so far contacted police after last night's reconstruction and many have come forward concerning the man seen running to a car parked in an adjacent road to where Jo was shot.
Police revealed that the man ran past witnesses who shouted "run Forrest, run" at him, in reference to the film Forrest Gump.
The man is white, blond, in his mid-20s, of average height, and was wearing a cream tracksuit with stripes down the sides.
He jumped into the rear passenger seat of a small, possibly silver, hatchback car.
