The Ring title means nothing now Oscar owns it.

Him buying that is like the Government "owning" the BBC.

I think that's b0llocks to be fair.

As long as the citeria for crowning a champ stays the same i.e. rigid rules on how a champ can be crowned i.e. by the #1 contender beating the #2 or on rare occasions the #3 etc then Oscar or GB owning it makes no difference.

All it means is that it's becoming a bit more high profile - because they're promoting it as a major belt. And I think that's a good thing!

It is just a matter of time before the controversy begins. You wait till the big money matches are in the pipeline, then we will see how those rules are adhered to.

Whereas the ring rating used to be just a 'magazine's ratings' they're now gaining credibilty by being supported by the most powerful boxing promotional company in the world. I hope the trend continues, because I'd love to see it become a universally recognised way of crowning champions. Think it's just what the sport needs.

In theory, yes - but only if the ratings are compiled independantly. I think we can all agree that THAT is not the case...
