RODNEY BAY, St Lucia – Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) cruiserweight champion Shawn Terry Cox logged a swift win over St Lucian Tadius Francis on a card at the Gaiety Theatre on Friday night.

The unbeaten Barbadian needed less than one round to defeat Francis in a four-fight card that saw only one bout going the distance.

New St Lucian pro Patrick Wilson and Christopher Henry, of Barbados, also punished their opponents with early knockout wins, while Guyanese Revlon Lake upset St Lucian Jeff Nagroot on points.

Cox, preparing for a defence of his title in late December, dropped Francis late in the first round to record his sixth win in six fights, all by knockout.

Inactive since winning the CABOFE belt in June, Cox landed a powerful left hook to his opponent's chin, sending Francis to the canvas for the full count.

The end came at two minutes, ten seconds of the opening round. Cox said he was happy to be back in the ring again.

Wilson, a former Caribbean amateur champion and on his pro debut, outgunned the Vincentian-born, Barbadian-based Julian Tannis, who failed to get past the opening round.

Henry, a former world-ranked welterweight, proved too strong for Guyanese Michael Pittman and won the scheduled eight-rounder inside two rounds.

In the only bout that went the distance, Lake floored Nagroot in the third round en route " to a points victory. (CMC)
