Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Carlos Hernández

Post by HOGBEAR »

Mayweather suffered a knockdown in round six.

From: http://espn.go.com/boxing/news/2001/0526/1205368.html

"Mayweather, 24, suffered the first knockdown of his career when his right glove touched the canvas in the sixth round. He wasn't hit, but was given a standing eight count by referee Dale Grable."

(Mayweather also turned his back to Hernández, so Grable's knockdown call was legit.)

Is anyone going to address this? Are only some knockdown calls noted? If so, why? You should either note them all or none of them.

You also need to figure out a system for editorializing knockdown calls. The following appears in the Freitas/Grigorian entry:
Grigorian down four times. Three of the "knockdowns" seemed to be highly questionable.
"Questionable" according to whom? The editor who wrote that?

"Mayweather suffered the first knockdown of his career when his right glove touched the canvas in the sixth round"

Sounds like a fair way to note it.

I also noticed the Freitas comments were deleted.

Thanks for the updates, guys. :TU:

Floyd suffered his first knockdown because he hurt his hand punching hernandez...a legit knockdown, but certainly atypical and worth noting.
