Tony Jeffries has signed on a 3 year contract and will make his professional debut probably in Feb 09.

Whilst Jeffries is far from the most talented amongst the British and Irish Olympic squads (I think he would probably admit that himself) he has always come across really well in interviews and boxed with heart and passion to medal at the Olympics.

Good on him.

It will be good to see him leave the burger bar behind and set out as a pro.

Hopefully his association the Black Cats will mean he has good support coming out of the North East - if he is promoted well he could become a real ticket seller I reckon.

Any word on BJ Saunders? He is the best lad to come out of Beijing IMO - would like to know who is getting his signature - I heard Warren was the front runner but since then its all gone quiet.

Hey guys what do you lot think of the signing - is it a good move for Jeffries or Fight Academy or both ??

Lets see if we can get some constructive debate here rather than complete b*llocks!!! :TU:

Jeffries has really laid into the ABA after turning pro in this report http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7756514.stm

Sounds really dissapointing that we would treat our olympians like that?

Be interested to hear who with, ITV seems to be a closed shop with Mick Hennessy (although interesting to see a Brian Peters bill on there tonight from Ireland). Sky seems to be full up between Warren, Maloney and Matchroom so maybe Setanta have some dates and Hobson has done some business there before. Who would he headline those shows with though, Woods? He couldn't really justify headlining with Jeffries.

hennessy had a vested interest in the undercard (o'donnell etc) and mick was in the crowd, 2nd row..

I'm just here to talk about the issues, I have no hidden agenda, I don't want a moderator status!!
I'm just in a priviledged position having worked with all the major promoters, and count all the top fighters(and their wives) as close friends.
There is so much inside info I would like to tell everyone but my hands are tied!!

Good luck to TJ, but I'm not very excited about his prospects as a pro to be honest.

I think he looks limited ability wise and his route to bronze was a little fortuitous. Fair play to him for winning the medal though - I hope I'm proved wrong because he comes accross as a really top fella.

Whoever gets BJS, Gavin and Degale will be of far more interest though.
