Lionel Rose Documentory

Post by Sweet P »

I just finished watching the Lionel Rose documentry. It was really well put together.

You forget how good the guy was to win the World title at the age of 19. The footwork and timing he had was absolutly second to none.
The speed in his punches and the way he took apart Harada was brilliant.

SBS showed it recently and it was a touching doco. Lionel is doing it tough now but he still is the same modest decent bloke he was all those years ago.

Lionel was a very great fighter in his prime but weight problems at bantam level exhausted him. His demeanour, now and then still holds him in great esteem, unlike our current porkchop: Mundine, who will never be granted a street parade like Lionel had.

I thought mundines carry-on in the dressing room while talking to roy jones sr about lionel roses achievements was a bit bunged on and fake "Lionel rose champion of the world baby" I was thinking FFS choc lionel probably cant understand what your talking about.
He speaks about being a proud aboriginal, Why does he try so hard to sound like an american rap artist?

Was there a lot of footage of lionel at the mundine green fight? Coz I saw lionel there and the cameras were all over him all night.

I watched this show, other night. Was interesting. I have not seen much of his fights, but im curious to know how come after his loss to Olivares when he moved up in weight he lost to average fighters and was never the same again?

I think he says something along the lines of "I've been living like a spartan, I want to see the sunny side of the street" and started drinking.
