BITTER BERNARD AND BITTERER BRIAN

Post by FtmPress »

BERNARD DUNNE and manager Brian Peters will be men looking in from the outside later this month.

Bitter Bernard and Bitterer Brian have come up with non-stop excuses about the super-bantamweight's defeat in seconds to Kiko Martinez and accused European champion Rendall Munroe of running scared.

'The Bitters' big rivals invade Dunne's home city, Dublin on Thursday December 18 and have vowed to show who the best super-bantamweights in Europe really are.

Munroe (16-1) defends his title against Italy's Fabricio Trotta (13-4-2) on the brilliant bill at Dublin City University, while Martinez boxes a six rounder.

Martinez (19-1) flattened Dunne quicker than it takes to pull in a pint in one of the pubs owned by Peters who moonlights as a boxing promoter.

The Spaniard then lost his title to Munroe, but Dunne and Peters somehow feel hard done by.

Promoter Frank Maloney said: "We have no problem fighting Dunne even in his own front room. What I have a problem with is someone who can't make up their mind.

"There have been three different offers on the table at three different times for Dunne to fight Munroe.

"Dunne's people don't seem to know left from right. One minute they want to fight Rendall and the next talking about world titles.

"If you get knocked out by the Martinez, the second best super-bantamweight in Europe you are not world class.

"Instead of dreaming, Team Dunne should start living in the real world.."

Munroe's cracking defence will top the bill, but Irish eyes will be on Olympic bronze medallist Darren Sutherland who boxes a six round super-middleweight contest on his professional debut at the university where he studied.

Irish light-middleweight champion Jamie Moore (30-3) boxes a six rounder ahead of his crack at the vacant European light-middleweight early next year

London based Irishman Martin Power (19-3), the former British bantamweight champion faces a tough test against Gary Davies (7-2-1).

In a special attraction Craig Watson (13-2) defends his Commonwealth welterweight title against Adnan Amar (22-1), a protégé of Dubliner Brendan Ingle.

A third title bout on the bill sees Jason Booth (30-5) risks his Commonwealth bantamweight crown against Sean Hughes (15-7-1).

Tickets for the big Dublin bill cost 100 Euros and 40 Euros and are available from www.frankmaloney.com www.ticketmaster.ie. To order from Ireland by phone call 08 18 719300, and from UK 0871 226 1508.

You're right, that is a great bill, but will it be on Sky Sports or Irish television?

Two bits of false advertising there, tickets are not going for €40(I'd know I'm after buying the cheapest available of ticketmaster which is €50) and the other part if Munroe's defence against Trotta is not a 'cracking defence'. Trotta is as poor an opponent as could be selected and if Munroe does anything other than win every round or stop him(while winning every round) he should rid himself of any thoughts of a World title challenge.

Dioufy it's on Sky btw.

I haven't heard the Dunne camp talk up the world title much since losing to Martinez. Any time I've seen a press release or an interview, the focus has been the EBU.

I also don't think that getting sparked should end someones world title aspirations, especially when they are young enough to rebuild and learn from it. 9/10 times I still think Dunne boxes the ears off of Martinez.

Maybe you should spend less time running down the Dunne team, and more time finding someone who would actually be competitive against Rendall.

I tell you what Maloney really puts on good bills...these days its rare to see three competitive fights on one bill in britain. Its usually the main event followed by ten fights involving prospects vs guys who are 3-42. I understand these fights have to occur but when I go to watch a bill, I'm not gonna fork out my hard earned just to see one competitive fight. Props to Maloney and co.

I never blame the fighter only the people around him , You are right a ko is not the end of anyones career is how they come back. A fighter can only fight the people who are put in front of him so it you want to blame anyone for the oppen in front of Rendall blame me, But the EBU rules say you may box any one in the ranking (when you are doing a volu.)so we picked a ranked boxer and i am sure if Dunne was the champ and doing a volu. fight. You may see the same guy coming out of the opps. conner .. If he team were doing there job right. If you are so sure Dunne boxes the ears of Martinez why did he not do it the first time around. I believe if would be the same story line if they met once more

All great fun but Frank's not actually responding to the offer he was made which he admitted was emailed to him and was also sent out in a press release from Dunne's side. Seemed like a very decent offer to me at £60,000 and Martinez has said he'd step aside to allow the match happen.

Let's face it the Trotta match is a terrible one, particularly when Frank said Dunne was only fighting Mexican road sweepers since the Martinez fight. Surely it would have made far more sense for Munroe to have defended his title against another Dubliner, Paul Hyland.

of course Martinez will step aside, because if Dunne won then Martinez would sooner fight him than Munroe .

Fair dues FTM Press, funny reply, but dont over do it as Bernard has a very strong fan base in Dublin and is still very popular despite his terrible first round loss.

I'll be at the bill and have been speaking to a fair few others who are also going, the main attraction to us is Darren Sutherland, give him a certain amount of fights (7 to 10) and if your team lead him in the right direction will sell out arenas such as the national stadium or O2 in Dublin, were as you know serious cash will be made

Good bill which I'll enjoy, hope ur fighters dont all pull out like a follow promoters fights this coming Saturday night in the Ex Cel arena, what a joke of a bill. I paid £100 for a ticket and there all fecking pulling out..... NOT HAPPY

How Martinez and Dunne shape up against each other should be no concern to Munroe and Maloney though right ?, I mean after all they are confident of beating both of them anyway.

Why would Maloney let one of his top fighters fight a Dubliner in Dublin thats not how it works, This show is all about Darren Sutherland, I know how Maloney works and what he would hope to gain by this doing this show in Dublin. I do not think he has changed from when i work with him, He sets out a plan and stick to it untill it falls apart. I also know if he could move Martinez aside he would. He told a reporter that he would rather see Munroe fight Dunne next than Martinez. It is said he turned down a lot more money than Peters offer to go to Spain and has been working on bring Martines to England if he has to fight Munroe next.

Come on mate, that's a blatantly stupid thing to say, and would only come from a totally biased point of view.

If Dunne could box the ears of Martinez ears, it's only because Munroe has showed him how to - When he had his chance to box his ears off, he got knocked out in a round.

How is it stupid? Bernard is a skilled boxer who stupidly went to trade from the opening bell and paid the price.

Martinez is limited and if he can't KO you, then he'll go down to superior boxing skill which Bernard has. All Bernard has to do to win is not be as eager to trade and be more intelligent. It is not a biased opinion, it is an educated one from studying form.

I think Dunne stood a chance at a world title when Molitor was champ, but I think that door is shut to him now that Molitor was stopped. I know Dunne's level is just above EBU but short of world class, so I rate him exactly how I see him and I think 9/10 times he beats Martinez.

Cannibal, I agree with you. We already knew Dunne had a bad chin, and Martinez just proved that he could be knocked out early by a puncher. I still feel that despite this, Bernard is the fighter with more potential of the two and just got his tactics wrong on the night. Getting knocked out (even in the first round) doesn't automatically make the other guy a better fighter. Look at Lewis with Rahman (he managed to get his revenge), Tyson with Douglas (they never had a rematch).

I think Dunne is at times good to watch, it's just a shame he doesn't have a little bit more power. That coupled with his shaky chin is why I think he is European level at best. I would like to see him in with the likes of Monroe, or a rematch with Martinez, but as far as world title ambitions go, I think such a fight would be a step too far for him. Personally I felt Molitor was a class act who easily blew away Hunter, and I was surprised he got beaten so quickly at the weekend but would still pick him as a comfortable winner over Dunne. Dunne-Monroe would be a great fight.

I think the issue for Dunne isnt so much his lack of punch / chin, cos both can be accomodated. Dunnes problem is that he is getting out muscled in his fights. They are starting to have a desperate feel about them, like he is certain the other fellow is fundamentally stronger, and all Dunne has is "skill".

Its not that he needs to "trade", but I worry whether be believes he can be the boss in fights anymore.

Dunne's main problem is the home crowd. He doesn't need to be the strongest guy in there. He is quite elusive when he wants to be, hitting you with a quick combo and backing off before you can fire back.

But with the crowd behind him, he sometimes doesn't back off and takes needless shots. In close he is very hittable, but when he sticks with the in and out combos he is much more effective. Home pressure can often make you work against your better instincts I think and is not always an advantage.

This tat for tat exchange between the promoters has become tedious now. Following his capture of Darren Sutherland and the fact that he is promoting a show in Dublin it seems inconceivable as to why Maloney and SKY wouldn't be interested in pairing together Munroe and Dunne together. It would be a big fight as well as a competitive one in spite of Dunne being blown away inside a round by Martinez.

Munroe vs Trotta doesn't appeal, neither did Munroe vs Bouaita.
