MCCLOSKEY V LYNES BRIT TITLE
Re: MCCLOSKEY V LYNES BRIT TITLE
Why did barnes pull out :surprised:
Re: MCCLOSKEY V LYNES BRIT TITLE
I wonder if it has anything to do with the TV station and Promoter involved (Sky and Hayemaker)?
Re: MCCLOSKEY V LYNES BRIT TITLE
Good fight, possibly not far removed from Barnes/Lynes, McCloskey could be all wrong for Colin, with his darting in and out and lowish hands and decent head movement.
I think Lynes starts favourite but I am of the opinion that its a good fight and McCloskey is very dangerous

Re: MCCLOSKEY V LYNES BRIT TITLE
Lynes beats all 140lb'ers in the UK except Hatton and Witter.
Re: MCCLOSKEY V LYNES BRIT TITLE
I thought the Irishman lost clearly to Nigel Wright last time out, the only time he has really stepped up in class. Otherwise he has faced the usual suspects on his home patch, other than a very faded Tontcho Tonchev.
Wright showed the way to win was with long straight shots catching Paul on the way in and these tactics will be utilised with ease by the rangy Lynes.
I can see a shut out happening

Re: MCCLOSKEY V LYNES BRIT TITLE
Watched the whole fight with Wright and had McCloskey by 2 rounds and thought it would have been easier had he not got involved in allowing himself to get into a fight with Wright at times.Coco wrote:I thought the Irishman lost clearly to Nigel Wright last time out, the only time he has really stepped up in class. I don't think Lynes/Wright would be a shut out so if the guy is taking 6 rounds off Wright (by my reckonining only) then I have to give him a chance against Lynes.
The Lynes that fought Morrison and Muttley would win, I agree with you but if the Lynes that fought Daws turns up (excluding the fact he was not well apparently) then I think he may well lose this one or at least by pushed very close.
McCloskey ain't bad, don't think he is as good as his team think but his style could just could give Lynes some problems.
Spoke to someone close to the camp and they are very confident of winning this, was surprised to hear they are that confident.
Still good fight and looking forward to it.
Re: MCCLOSKEY V LYNES BRIT TITLE
Why Barnes given up title is moving back up in weight!!
Re: MCCLOSKEY V LYNES BRIT TITLE
Northern Ireland's Paul McCloskey gets a surprise shot at the vacant British light-welterweight title this Friday in Dagenham against local star Colin Lynes, the title having been stripped from Manchester's David Barnes, originally lined up to defend against Lynes but who pulled out with less than a week to go to the fight.
McCloskey was due to appear in an eight-rounder on the show, so he will be in shape. He is unbeaten (in 17 fights), strong, clever and on a fine recent run, with 10-round decisions over Nigel Wright and Cesar Bazan in his last two fights. At 29 he looks ready for a move like this. He has absolutely nothing to lose.
Lynes is vastly more experienced and previously held this British title, which he won with a solid 12-round decision over Scotland's Barry Morrison in Scotland last year. He added the European light-welterweight title with a dazzling eight-round stoppage of Midland puncher Young Mutley in the Midlands but was then messed around by Gianluca Branco - in and out of the ring - and dropped the belt to the old Italian spoiler on a bad decision in Italy earlier this year. To compound things Lynes had given up his British title to concentrate on Branco.
Clearly, Lynes will want his Lonsdale Belt back (and his European), but McCloskey will not make it easy. The Irishman is on the way up and you wonder if this is his time. Colin's confidence won't be too great after the whole, hideous Branco experience. Nonetheless, it helps Lynes that McCloskey is a southpaw like Barnes - all those weeks of sparring have not gone to waste. Plus, Colin fights on home turf, another big bonus. He brings his great experience, too, his great left jab - this is a man who showed the world (and Tim Bradley) how to beat Junior Witter.
Ultimately, one sides with the man who has done it.

Hasn't Barnes signed with Hayemaker whose aim is to "empower boxers" ?REAL_DEAL wrote:Why did barnes pull out :surprised:
Perhaps they'll get him an international title shot and claim they're steering him towards a world title shot
Re: MCCLOSKEY V LYNES BRIT TITLE
I wouldn't be surprised to see him pull out with weight problems.
Re: MCCLOSKEY V LYNES BRIT TITLE
Its surprising that Barnes has been stripped by the Board. He captured the vacant British title in March by decisioning Ted Bami and defended it four months later against Barry Morrison. Perhaps the Board have run out of patience with Barnes after he originally pulled out of his first defence against Morrison back in May due to a "mouth infection" following this latest withdrawal. It would be good to have some kind of set criteria from the Board to establish what constitutes a fighter being stripped of his title. It appears to vary from Kevin McIntyre earlier in the year, to Matthew Marsh when he pulled out against Rocky Dean and now Barnes being stripped for failing to defend against Lynes.
Maybe Matchroom had an inkling that this was going to happen with McCloskey due to appear on the undercard in an 8-rounder. He impressed me against a washed up Cezar Bazan, less so against Nigel Wright. This contest is going to be one for the purists as both of them lack pop. Lynes looks the safer bet on points.

Best of luck to Paul!! This chance is well deserved.
Does anyone know of a streaming link for the fight?

Re: MCCLOSKEY V LYNES BRIT TITLE
I still believe Lynes will win at a canter. The Irishman will need to close the gap to get his fast flurries off, but Colin's left jab is ideal to counteract this style. I agree that is the man who fought Daws turns up he could be in trouble, but I have seen nothing to suggest that in recent times, I just can't see Paul getting past the Essex mans long, well timed shotsGLOBALBOX wrote:Watched the whole fight with Wright and had McCloskey by 2 rounds and thought it would have been easier had he not got involved in allowing himself to get into a fight with Wright at times.Coco wrote:I thought the Irishman lost clearly to Nigel Wright last time out, the only time he has really stepped up in class. Oh dear, another pull out.
Shame. Barnes-Lynes would have been a cracking bouts, a late notice McCloskey won;t give Lynes the same challenge.

Re: MCCLOSKEY V LYNES BRIT TITLE
McCloskey can definatly cause problems for Lynes, as he has a high workrate and Lynes has struggled in the past with that.
I think it could be closer than alot of you think, Lynes will start off brightly , but be pegged back in the middle rounds, before showing the better class in the last couple of rounds to win a decision by 3 rounds

Re: MCCLOSKEY V LYNES BRIT TITLE
You're won of very few to have it that way. The reaction(from both Irish and British posters on forums) has seemed to mainly range from McCloskey winning 97-93 or 96-94(some people I have seen had even rounds as some rounds were close).Coco wrote:I thought the Irishman lost clearly to Nigel Wright last time out, the only time he has really stepped up in class. If Paul had stuck to the way he fought in the first two rounds and just boxed Wright he would of won easily. Actually if you thought Wright won clearly having lost the first 2 rounds(because it's pretty much undisputable that he lost them), you must have had Wright winning either 6/7/all of the last 8 rounds.
I personally had it 96-94 McCloskey. I'm worried by McCloskey coming in at late notice, he comes in, in modest shape at the best of times so considering he was only meant to fight at 8 rounder I doubt he'll be in optimum shape. He'll cause Lynes problems at times but I think Lynes will take this closely on points by being more consistant and obviously that jab of his being key as always.
The problems for Lynes would come if McCloskey is slick and sharp enough to avoid that jab, I'm not sure he will be though.

Re: MCCLOSKEY V LYNES BRIT TITLE
cn paul for a long time now, yes his last fight was hard and close proberly closer than the refs card but he still won.
their is gion 2 be a new title holder this weekend, lynes has neither the pace or the the punch to win this fight as long as paul doesnt get into a scrap and stays to what hes good at as he did in the bazan fight n their will be only 1 winner
fly the flag sir!!!!!!!!!

Re: MCCLOSKEY V LYNES BRIT TITLE
I thought McCloskey did enough to beat Wright and never saw the controversy to be honest. I give Paul a real chance of snatching the title away here as he has shown improvements in his recent outings, even in the Wright fight. The way he shutout Bazan with a fine display of in and out boxing was impressive; equally so the win over Garnica.
The only point of contention is his workrate and the fact that he always appears that he could slim down a weight. This apart, i'm backing the Dungiven man to spring the upset on Friday night and be crowned British champion (the title route I always believed he should take).

The show is on ITV, probably on ITV 4 for the undercard- I doubt that the fight will be on a streaming link if it is not live on TV. Best bet if you don't get ITV/ITV 4 is just to try their website.
I can't see there being a stream, though, unless it is an offical ITV one.
