Lawton - Gethin!

Post by Counter-puncher »

announced for the undercard of the Froch Bill

who wins?

I'd pick gethin even if i wasn't biased, I don't think Lawton has the skills to out-cute 'the quiet man', nor the strength to best him in a war.

should be a good fight anyway

and a nice little bill too, ho ho will anyone care about the SN card?

gew on Martin :box:

It's another good fight for Martin 'Margarito' Gethin. He's been relentless in his last 2 outings against Fewkes and Siddique, if he can keep up that sort of form he should grind Lawton down and stop him in the second half of the fight (10 rounder???).

If Gethin comes through this one he's got to be hoping for a shot at Khan, Murray or Thaxton next up. More than likely to be Murray or Thaxton than Khan as this fights on a Hennessey card

Gew on Gethin Ar kid!!

Isn't Martin John's next mandatory? I thought the Siddique fight was an eliminator.

i think he is murray's mandatory yes

we had discussion last time gethin fought, i ironically said 'should he go for Murray now or take a Meager/Lawton type fight?'

my preference was for the latter notwithstanding 'tomorrow is promised to no man'

for 2 reasons, first that gethin had a big step up in class his last 2 fights and i wouldn't mind him getting a bit of seasoning before murray (2) another good win just builds his profile more. better yet its televised.

Gethin to successfully defend his English title against Lawton.

Lawton, however, should put in a much more spirited performance than he did against Khan because (1) he's probably not going to get too many more good opportunities like this and (2) Gethin's inferior speed to that of Khan, will allow Lawton to get into the fight better.

A good English title fight, and Gethin will come through a tricky one and will have fully earned his British title shot against Murray.

Is this a confirmed bout, then? Boxrec don't have it up.

Gethin wins this one. But the big question is, will ITV show it in full?

What is it with Gethin?
He's supposed to have lost his last 2 fights against Siddque and Fewkes , but won them in convincing style.

I like his no fear style of boxing, takes a few to land his punches.
And he's not afraid to meet anyone, i think he stops Lawton late on

I don't think Lawton holds a shot too well so I think Gethin can stop him in the middle rounds. Lawton managed to fiddle Thaxton about but he generally tends to get drawn in and eventually tagged. He's not the classic stick and move boxer who is going to keep Gethin at bay for 10 rounds, IMO.

Lawton ran out of ideas with Judex Meema, lost interest in him following that fight.

I'm convinced that he's a proper pro - very fit, great heart, comes at an opponent, warrior mentality.

I like the lad.

But I just think - if he boxes - Lawton should have the edge on skill.

Thing is, Lawton doesn't hold a shot very well (though shipped quite a few against Thaxton) and enjoys a fight which gets him into bother. If he wants a tear up, he'll lose.

In the other thread I went for Lawton on points - I ended up getting Lawton and Limmond mixed up, so now I'm going for Gethin on points. Although, I would pick Limmond to outpoint him fairly easily if they ever did fight.

The fact that a few posters have opted for Lawton shows what a good match this is.

I see Gethin winning, but I'm sure he will need to be at his best because I expect a fired up and focussed Lawton for this one. Scott can really box lovely at times, like when he outboxed Bax Carey, but I can't imagine Gethin letting him settle into a groove for ten rounds.

Looking forward to this one....and I agree, Autobarn, will ITV show the whole fight :?? I hope so, because the scorecards could be a factor.

These longer distance fights seem to suit Gethin down to the ground, he just steamrolled Fewkes and Siddique with his relentless stamina and deceptive power. Looking forward to seeing him in action again as I've only seen his last 2 fights, but I've got got high hopes for him as he crucially 'looks' to have a decent beard as well.

If he comes through Saturday I'd love to see him in with Murray or Khan. I'm hoping Gethins sneaked in under the radar without a fanfare and he's gonna shock some of these lads who've had the high profile build ups
