Business man offers Eubank 1 Million to fight

£1M BOUT OFFER May 29 2004

CHRIS Eubank has been offered £1million in cash to get back in the ring and go six rounds with a mystery tycoon.

The star is alleged to have been given the offer by an anonymous US businessman.

The former world champion quit boxing in 1998 and it has not yet been confirmed whether he plans to take up the offer.

Eubank, who lives in Sussex, was unavailable to comment as he is touring Spain.

But a spokesman said: 'We have heard these rumours of £1million being offered but we don't know what's going on.'

If it's true, I wonder if it will be with 16oz gloves and headgear etc?

It's not that strange an idea really in a way if this tycoon in a big fight fan and just wants to 'spar' with an ex--world Champ.

I'd love to have the oppertunity.

A million pound to share the ring with an ex-champion, the man if he exists is obviously not a discerning boxing fan; I’d want Tyson, Jones Jr. Chavez or Azumah Nelson (with the strict understanding neither threw a worthwhile punch).

I have never written off a Eubank comeback, I remember him on that Channel 5 show with Gloria Hunniford (after his Big Brother experience) and he said he is "trying" to let it go for the kids sake, but finds it hard.

I was surprised he never continued after the Thompson rematch, caused he seemed adamant that it wasn't the end.

Excellent scoop, had no idea about this.

Incidently, has Pascal retired aswell. Is that a picture of old Steve in action in this event, he looks in good shape if it is.

Oh not so good now, but still better than I expected. I heard recently that some tycoon offered Linford Christie over staggering 1 million pounds to replicate the 1988 Olympic Final with all 8 finalist (Johnston, Lewis etc). I just wonder if this businessman might offer something to stage a Eubank vs Collins 3 or Eubank vs Benn 3 (all exhibitions of course).
