TYSON FURY to make his PRO DEBUT on Saturday Night!

Post by exittored »

Exciting Heavyweight Prospect TYSON FURY is set to make his debut on saturday night after signing a long term deal with promoter Mick Hennessy.
Fury can rule the world!

EXCITING heavyweight prospect Tyson Fury has turned professional - and is set to make his paid debut on Saturday night!

The 20-year-old national ABA super heavyweight champ has given up his hopes of glory at the London 2012 Olympics by signing a `long-term' deal with promoter Mick Hennessy.

And Hennessy is predicting that Fury, who trains in Wythenshawe Manchester, could be British champion within six months and undisputed world champion by 2012.

"He is the best heavyweight I have seen since Lennox Lewis - and he is still only 20," says the Kent-based promoter.

Fury, the son of rugged former heavyweight pro Johnny Fury, is the reigning amateur super-heavyweight champion and only returned from a honeymoon in Portugal yesterday.

But Fury trained during his week's holiday and is primed for a run-out on the undercard of Carl Froch's WBC super-middleweight title fight with Jean Pascal in Nottingham.

"Pending the result of his medicals, and the go-ahead from the Board of Control, he could fight on Saturday," said Hennessy, who describes six ft eight, 18-stone Fury as `the best young signing in world boxing'.

Showcase

Hennessy says ITV are keen to showcase the youngster and may give him air time on ITV1 with the main event, rather than on the ITV4 undercard show.

Hennessy, whose stable includes rising Manchester star John Murray, said: "I have watched his career as an amateur, but since we took him to Carl Froch's training camp over in Ireland, I have seen everything I needed to know. He is like a throwback heavyweight.

"He has a brilliant jab which reminds me of Larry Holmes, and is very athletic, like the old heavyweights used to be. He also throws punches in bunches, great combinations."
Any thoughts?

Good signing.

Might be a tad OTT with his predictions! But it will be good to see him get TV coverage from the off.
Dallas, Olubamiwo, Chisora, Sexton and now Fury could provide us with some decent domestic dust ups in the near future. Hopefully Price will turn over soon too.

Suddenly the British Heavy Scene is looking up.
Good to see the new guys coming through at last.

I seem to remember something about him being ineligable for the British team anyway.
And the Irish said he couldn't box for them either.

He looks decent amateur, but i'm always a bit worried when a lad turns pro so young for a heavyweight.

Crazy to put him under that sort of pressure when he's only 20. I'd be happy to see him challenging for the British title after a couple of years of learning fights. Is he definitely on the Nottingham bill as he's not on the boxrec schedule?

Price beat him and got the nod instead.
He tried for the Irish team, think he even had a couple of vests, then they found out he wasn't Irish!!

He took a Bronze at the World Juniors last year fighting for England.

He had a couple of fights for Ireland and was trying desperately to get to Beijing because Price was clearly England/Britains number 1 at the time of selection. Unfortunately they could not prove he had any Irish in him!

Yep, going off the date it must be over a year and a half old.

If he can take a punch, he could be more exciting than Warrens hatrick signing.

Yes he is Gypsy John's son. After he lost to Price, he trained in Belfast at the Holy Family club and tried to box in the Irish nationals and make their Olympic team. They wouldn't let him box because he couldn't prove he was a resident of Ireland. I believe his father was born in Ireland but Tyson was born and raised in England. I quess Ireland must have a rule that you says you have to be a permanent resident for x number of years. He's only 20 or 21.
I think it would have been beter for him to get 4 years of international amateur experience and fill out in his body. If he boxed for the UK team in London with that name, won a medal, it would have been a big story.

Its not an impossibility, especially with John Mcdermott and that shell of a Danny Williams leading the way.

I agree with most though, 20 is terrbily young to be switching over for a heavyweight.
