A Nigel Benn question.

Can anyone remember the name of the artist/song that Benn used to enter the ring to for most of his early fights?

It was a Dub/Ragga/Dancehall type tune that had the words "I am dangerous" repeated over and over again.

As Boxers entrance music goes it was a cracker IMO, any info fight fans?

Sure beat Herbie Hides "I am the one and only by Cheesy Hawks.

Is it the same one he used for Eubank II? If not could you let me know what that one was - it sounded Marley-esque?

Dont think so but he definatly used it for the first Eubank fight.

It was a lot harder than Marley, more Lee Perry/King Tubby type feel.

No idea, but I remember going to see him fight at the Ally Pally, when he blasted out a very surprised African for the Commonwealth title.
Great entrance - the lights went down and we heard the chimes of Big Ben strike twelve, then I think it was Back In Black as he came to the ring - crowd loved it.

Next time I saw him was at the Albert Hall. I forget the entrance because the fight was an absolute barn burner. Anthony Logan came to win, and nearly took out Benn in the first round. No UK TV coverage either, some dispute between his manager Mendy and ITV I think.

I can tell you EXACTLY what that song is, as it happens to be one of my favourite dancehall tunes of all time.

It's called unsurprisingly 'Dangerous.' it's bloody hard to find these days, a mate of mine used to have a copy, but I've not seen it anywhere in a while. You could probably get it in a dub vendor if you're near one.

It's by the legendary Courtnay Melody, and can be found on his album.

'Dangerous' Ted Bami also enters the ring to that song, one of the best pieces of entrance music for a fighter ever.

always been an "eek a mouse" fan myself, and lady saw is good for a bbq.
somink a bit lighter bit of greg isaacs is good to chill to, but not as ring entrance.

'Rumous' is a blinding Gregory Isaacs tune. The Dub of it would be great for a ring entrance.

I actually sing with a bunch of Reggae geezers sometimes. Did a tune a while back with a guy called Ricky Rankin, might even get something released on an album if all goes well. Funny old world eh?

too right Greg's a skankin!

im a huuuuuge reggae / dance hall fan even as kid, loved it

still love it and own many cd's from old ska (desmond dekker et al) thru to ragga.....and when I was into drum and bass (still do quite like some of the more tuneful stuff) it was always the reggae tunes that rocked it for me.

saw desmond back up madness at finsbury park a good few years back what a day out that was!!

Go for it Mr Mcdonnell a man of many talents obviously.

boxing writing bollock bouncing and now singing...perhaps you could do all three at the same time?

i am indeed but alas Im booked already remeber this wqeekend was gonna be the night of the hatton / calzaghe double header, well my mate that flew from singapore is still coming as he had the flights booked and he was due coming back anyway I digress, upshot is, I have a certain obligation to go out and get shedded with him then we are gonna catch the ppv to get the boxing fix.
otherwise I would have been there my man in fact my missus loves it too (the music that is) so if you come accorss any others I may well be up for it! plus im having a few bevs with ya fri night hey at point 101

Cheers mate, your right it's a quality entrance tune and really suited the young Nigel Benn.

I'm a HUGE ska/rocksteady/Dub/Mento/2 Tone fan have been since being brought up on the likes of The Specials, The Selecter, Madness and The Beat etc. I still have my head shaved and wear my DM's with pride and look like a reject from a Madness tribute band.
