Boxing's still full of dodgy geezers!

Post by Deserter »

To cut a long story short I've just had to jump through hoops over the booking of my ticket for the Froch fight. I thought it was all sorted but then got letter through asking me to prove who I claimed I was by faxing them a bank statement (with crucial details obscured etc).
I clearly wasn't happy about this so called them this morning and it turns out that while they don't seem to have a problem with other events, they lose a lot of money due to fraudulent transactions at boxing events.
I'm all sorted now thank god, but clearly boxing's still got its fair share of scallies. Anyone else had to go through this whole rigmarole?

Dodgy geezers in boxing!! I also heard a rumour that you get wet standing out in the rain!

In all serious tho, I would be unhappy faxing details such as bank statements away, ID fraud is rife

I must admit that when I first got the letter I thought it could be a fake so phoned them up this morning, but they're genuine enough. However, I still wasn't comfortable with sending anything across so we managed to agree on the compromise of me bringing some photo ID when I pick up my ticket on Saturday night.

I once got woken up on Sunday morning by a fighter on the phone, wanting ticket money after boxing the night before :oo :oo

I'd got my ticket from one of his friends, but I'd paid at the box office, hence the confusion. I'd never actually met this fighter and certainly hadn't given him my phone number, so I was a little shocked.

Not a nice way to get up.

I'd 'booked' the ticket with the card, but apparently payment isn't deducted until you pick up the ticket from the box office on the night. In the letter they basically threatened to cancel the booking if I didn't send them the additional documentation, but I could easily envisage a circumstance where I decided not to bother and so assumed the booking/reservation was null and void, only for them to deduct the money any way.

Odds are that's what would have happened. I've never known any website to send a letter like that though.

Neither have I, which is why I thought it might be worth giving other posters on the forum a 'heads-up' about it.
