I think people dismiss too easily the difficulty in going nine years & forty-nine consecutive bouts without a real slip-up. Even if you're good enough, few boxers are able to be, "up" enough to make it happen (ask Lennox Lewis). The era was fairly weak, but this point is still a valid one.

Marciano's consistency & reliability deserve more from fight fans when evaluating him, IMO.

The best fighter he beat was Joe Louis. However all of Marciano' contenders were past their primes when he was champion. This is not his fault and he fought who was available in his era. He was a strong fighter with unlimited will. His syle was made for all out action. Just imagine:

Marciano - Frazier
Marciano - Tyson
Marciano - Foreman
Marciano - Holyfield

His best shots would be against Frazier & Holyfield. He may lose all four bouts.

I think I'd just slightly (maybe?) favour him over Frazier, & Holyfield --- who didn't have the endurance at Heavyweight he once possessed --- may've gotten into trouble in the later rounds, should he let his ego get the better of him.

It would be a tough slog against Tyson. He'd have to out-gut him, but I think it's unlikely. He'd be slaughtered by Foreman, every single time.

He'd have his best chance against Holyfield, even then, imo, Marciano would be beaten.

He would get dominated in all 4 of those fights.
