Agreed. Had no interest in Oscar vs Ricky but this would be a brilliant fight. Topped only by Pacman versus Floyd.
Yeah right! This is the fight I want to see...

Almost certainly the biggest British fight ever, and one that I actually quite fancy Hatton to win. On paper it's a fantastic fight either way and I can't wait to see it.

No you weren't mate there were three people...

I agree to a point, but calling him SHOT is way off.

He should retire now, I hold my hands up to that.
How is it way off? he was "SHOT"
Claiming DLH was "shot" is a disservice to Pac's brilliance. 2008 has been Oscar's most active year for some time and, in his last fight, he beat Forbes as decisively as Andre Berto subsequently did for the WBC 147 title. "Shot" he is not, but he should retire as his current standing will not justify any more "superfights".

Who's the one man who might lure an irritated Floyd back? The guy who's received the love and acclaim which PBF never had; the man who'd fight under Golden Boy? Whatever Oscar did or didn't do, there wasn't a word of an excuse from him post-fight. Manny's his boy.

DLH ran Mayweather close only 18 months previous. Sure, he was massively weight-drained this time, but unflattering comparisons will be made. Pacquiao's reached a higher point than Mayweather, and that's gotta hurt the latter's feelings.

On-topic: Hatton would find himself in a repeat of his defeat against Pac-Man.

Did you see that straight left that Pacquiao was nailing DLH with all night? Hatton would be eating that the same way, straight through his guard.

I feel Pacquiao is constantly improving and has become an even better fighter since JMM.

this is what i said about a potential pac- hatton fight before pac fought Diaz:

I assume, with how heavy pac has been at 130, that he would come into the ring as a lightwelter at 145-150- what weight he comes into the ring at lightweight will tell us more- so i guess he will give up around 5-7lbs to hatton in the ring on fight-night (with hatton at 152-155 i guess?)? which isn't so much..... like someone has said the Diaz fight will tell us more. I think hatton is shot enough that it levels the playing field with manny somewhat. it is said that manny is too hittable, however on recent form he moves his body and head much more consistently than hatton does, also he is quicker with his feet. my doubt for manny is that he doesn't fight particularly well on the backfoot- though in the past few fights he has developed an excellent counter right hook on the backfoot which is a shot that gives hatton problems. i don't think manny can hurt hatton with one punch but can maybe give his eyes/scar tissue problems. it would be interesting to see if manny tries to push hatton back, or more likely i think, circle around him and wait for the chance to explode in and throw clusters of fast shots before getting the funk out of there if he knows whats good for him. bank on hatton initiating a few clinches early to try and make any extra weight and strength tell.

can he beat hatton? yes

I don't think there is any chance at all for Hatton to win this fight.

I might have to put a lot of money down at those odds.

If the fight happens at 140, which is naturally should, I would go for Hatton.

Hatton would need to revert to his body shots and pressure fighting, not take a backward step. If he tries to counter, Pacman destroys him.

Hatton looked great in his last fight, admittedly against a dissapointing opposition. He is a tough guy and he can take a decent punch. I think if he goes in with the same mindset that he had when he beat Tsyu, he will stop Pacman through sheer workrate.

Pacman likes to brawl when drawn in and this is where Hatton can take him.

Rather than fighting Pacquiao, I'd like to see Mayweather finish his business with the genuine 147 pounders. Although the first half of his career was unimpeachable, the second half has been characterized by matchmaking so ultra-conservative it could be called Bill O'Reilly. He missed the real action at 140 and ditto at 147, where he used belt-holders to make the match-ups that suited him, rather than challenge the real heat of the division.

He is the finest talent of his generation, admittedly, and deserves huge credit for his matchmaking right up to Castillo II, but after that, he avoided every serious challenge he could have.

Beating Margarito and Cotto would add serious credence to his claims. But until he does, his CV looks alarmingly similar to Roy Jones's pre-Ruiz -- a bit disappointing.

On-Topic: Hatton - Pacquiao should be made for no other reason than it would be a very hig profile, and an almost nailed on thriller. How could a fight between those two guys not be exciting? It would be an easy sell, and huge publicity for boxing, and would be unlikely to disappoint.

Will be a great fight. I fancy Manny to deal with Ricky in a proper tear up. Only way Ricky wins is if his team come up with a water-tight gameplan and Ricky actually sticks to it. Either way, this will be a war.

I'd give Pacquiao the edge if he fights Hatton, however, I don't see this as much more than a 50/50 fight. Pacquaio would catch Hatton on the way in with the straight left easily but it would probably take a few rounds to actually stop Hatton with clean punches from Pacquaio. That gives Hatton opportunities to back Pacquiao to the ropes and start working the body. In all Hattons fights he has not had trouble catching up with his opponent. Even Floyd could not avoid the in fighting, he just had the defensive ability to negate it. Pacquaio is slick and can stay outside but Hatton is not a mug when it comes to cutting the ring off and working inside. If Hatton catches up with Pacquaio he'll be in big trouble. If Marquez at 130 can hurt Pacquaio to the body then Hatton at 140 can stop him. Of course, if Pacquaio can stay away from Hatton it'll be another Pac V Diaz/ De La Hoya I just think the task of avoiding Hatton is harder than avoiding a shot/ weight drained fighter or mediocre belt holder. Should be a good fight while it lasts though, whoever wins.

On another note, I don't think this fight will happen. Floyd is going to come out of retirment to fight Pacquaio. I believe Hatton is the fall back plan if they can't work out a deal with Floyd. If you watch the post fight interview with Arum, I get the impression he effectivly gave Floyd 4 weeks to make up his mind on a Pacquiao fight. When asked about the Hatton fight, he said it sounded like the obvious fight, but no negotiations would start until after the new year. Personally I think that was a way of offereing Floyd the opportunity to get in touch in the mean time before they go ahead and start negotiations for Hatton. I guess they could've just called Floyd out though, so maybe I'm reading too much into what he said.

Carbo,

While I agree with what you are saying - beating Margarito and WILLIAMS (not Cotto) would add serious credibility to a glittering career now... I think at the time of his 147 fights - the two he needed to face of paramount importance were Baldomir and Judah.

Cotto, Margarito and Williams are good - but not invinsible.

I think Hatton is an easier fight to sell than Pacquiao -- Mayweather. It has that 'guaranteed thriller' tag to be attached to it. Further, should Pacquiao win, it makes a Mayweather fight all the bigger.

And besides, would a fight against Mayweather bring in more money for Arum and Manny than a fight with Hatton?

Completely agree. Ricky is the next logical step before Floyd. It would be better to give the latter a tune-up fight first. Just not against Terry Norris.

I don't think that's right at all. Sorry, but he took on Judah after the loss to Baldomir, who was always a quality journeyman made good by benefitting from one of Judah's regular fortitude farts, rather than being of outstanding quality.

Margarito had been the premier 147lb fighter for many, many years. One may argue that he lost to Williams in a razor close decision which I think was just after or around the time he fought DLH, but that only furthered Williams's case. Additionally, Mosley was prowling around in 2006, too, looking pretty damn good against Vargas and Collazo.

Listen, Mayweather's brilliant, and I would have him as favourite against anyone below 154, but he has missed plenty of opportunities at both 140 and 147 to solidify a reputation as one of the greatest ever, preferring to go for the path of least resistance and get a rep as the best of his generation.

Fair play to him, but I think he wants more, and his talent would justify it.

This post is spot on in all depts.

Also, Pac-Man would finish Hatton's career. Hatton is only able to mix with these guys simply because of his fanbase. Talent/skill wise he's nowhere near them and is, frankly, lucky to be considered with them.

Pac-Man would almost certainly STOP Hatton. You heard it here first.

Agree with everything said by both of the above, bar the fact I rate Hatton a bit higher - he's a genuine world-class fighter, albeit not in the way his record/titles suggest.

Hatton gets alot because of his fan base, and he may well get stopped by Pacquiao, but come on, he's definitely world class. Easy. I don't understand those who argue otherwise. Apart from his forays up to 147 how many rounds has he lost?

20? Maybe? And not all of that has been against dross.

He is world class, but I was referring to ELITE aka P4P level.

Which Manny is, Floyd is, DLH was about 6-7 years ago and JMM is.

Yeah, probably not top 10, but -- now this is without thinking too hard about it, before you tear me to shreds -- almost certainly top 20.

Hope Hatton fights and batters Pac. :DD

Not hard to beat DLH when he barely does anything and made Welterweight when he's a Light Middle.

Hatton will be too big for him and Manny trading with him will suit Ricky.
Which Manny is
How? He beat washed up Mexicans and the first fresh fighter he fought beat him twice. Marquez Is his master. Hatton Isn't elite either though.

Fair enough, I accept the Manny critique.

I just think that his athletic talent + his domination of opponents makes him elite...but I concede that he isn't as good as Floyd or JMM.

He has better athletic talent and boxing skills (by being a southpaw that knows how to pivot for one thing) than Hatton's IMO.
