Lewis-McCall I: No

Gotta give the champ a chance. He is up at 5, staggers a bit but then collects himself.

Ali-Lyle: Yes

Difficult one as Ali did not really land much, not counting arm punches, following the big right hand but I think at some point you just have to throw a punch back.

Castillo-Corrales I: Yes

Totally disagree. Gotta disregard the two knockdowns earlier in the round, Castillo is defenceless on the ropes, easy decision for the ref.

Interesting. I take it you agree, however, with my contention the somewhat similar (to Castillo-Corrales I) Echols-Brewer was stopped too soon? I now Brewer was much clearer-headed than was Castillo, but even so, there are plain similarities.

I will concede I'm in the minority on Castillo-Corrales I. I would've let it go on just a bit longer. Felt the same way about Vazquez-Marquez II, though everyone seems to have forgotten that, in the wake of its 2007 Fight Of The Year mantle.

I think what made Coralles-Castillo so frustrating was the fact that Corrales had been given WAY too much time to recover to collect his mouthpiece. After a KD, if a fighter clearly intentially SPITS out his mouthpiece, the ref needs to force him to continue fighting . . you are robbing the other fighter of a deserved KO.

Lewis-McCall . . .while quick, the reason why I don't have a big problem with it is that the ref asked Lewis to walk towards him, and Lennox couldn't respond adequately as he stumbled towards the ref. That, along with Judah-Tyszu, is why a fighter shouldn't rush right up after a knockdown. Your brain can say yes but your legs say no.

Chavez - Taylor I - No way in hell should that fight have been stopped like that -

The other fight I recently rewatched and thought the stoppage was early...was the H. Gonzalez Vs Sorjaturong Jr. Fly Championship fight......... Humberto Gonzalez was hurt.....but it seemed stopped fast ...especially for the war the fight was and how Sorjaturong was down twice earlier......

Bowe was more hurt when he was knocked down in the rubber match with Holyfield than Lewis was vs McCall. I know making such comparisons is an inexact science, but I remember wondering at the time what the heavyweight landscape would have been like with different referees in those two fights.
