David Walker.... does he have a future in boxing?...

I was really saddened watching David Walker last night.... another exciting fight but Walker looked worryingly ring worn, no defence, little movement...... it shows what a terrible mistake it was to chuck him into the Karmizan fight rather than taking more time to build him up at domestic level. I get the feeling now that Walkers own desire is nolonger there I think he is carrying on because he feels it's what he should do.... or more likely its all he knows. David seems a good guy, and I fear he may get hurt if he continues to box on.... he's one of those guys who has too much heart for their own good.

No, I dont think he's got a future. Seems a nice kid, good heart and can bang a bit. But he's got no defence whatsoever and the Karmazin fight was an awful match. The sad thing about it was that anyone with half a brain knew this except Hennessy.

I know that Patrick Maxwell (another terrific guy) wants to fight Walker.

Maxwell would slaughter him.

Walker should get out he has never been the greatest boxer but seems a genuine nice guy, Would be a shame to see him get hurt uneccessarily, his management team need to have a real close look at his future and his desire before they put him in anymore fights...

For me the Karmazin fight was a very very bad move by his team...lamb to the slaughter comes to mind.

You know, Silkov I was going to post a thread asking: should David Walker retire? But I would have come across as biased.
In the early rounds of the Froch fight last night, I saw Walker sitting at ringside with a battered face (he was still prettier than Hennessy) and thought: how many more times is this kid going to get banged up? He's going to suffer permanent damge soon unless they drop him down a level and keep him there, or tell him to get out.

Thats it, very few fighters can continue taking 'beatings' in every fight and not end up with some injury sooner or later.... be it a an eye injury or worse!. The disturbing thing about Walker is that he is getting banged up by novices now, though with respect the guy he fought looked like he knew what he was doing. But Walkers defence and worryingly his reflexes were all over the place last night he looked like a 35 yearold fighter with 60plus hard fights behind him rather than a 24 yearold with just 20odd fights. The Karmazin fight has obviously taken a toll both psychologically and physically... as it was bound too... I think Henessey has given British boxing a shot in the arm but he's made a terrible mistake with Walker and I just hope he can persuade David to call it quite before something worse happens.

Let's not forget his life or death struggles with Spencer Fearon and his bashing by Vincent. Walker's fights are just too damaging, and if he's looking so shot then there's something seriously wrong. Unless there is some external reason he looked so bad, he should consider calling it a day.

When I saw Walker kiss Hennessy on the cheek on his way to the ring for the Karmazin mauling, I truly winced. Come on! This is boxing. People can get hurt, suffer eye damage, or worse. Hennessy needs to get tough with Walker now and make a decision or the Board will do it for him.
Affection just gets in the way.

Kid Dynamite is a terrific battler and king of the breathtaking fight.

I put it down to an off night.

But do I understand correctly when I hear he was weighing 11 1/2 stone??? If it's true , Walker has no business being up at middleweight.

I still see him as a big welterweight, but if he truly can't make 10stone 7, then fine light middle is where he should fight at....but no higher. He lost all his zip and sparkle.

David's style of boxing does require a lot of mental drive and that was lacking last night, and let's be fair, it's hard to me motivated everytime.

Give him the benefit of the doubt this time lads, I think he's earned it

But thats the point Butch.... too many wars against basically lets be honest, domestic level opposition. I've enjoyed watching Walkers fights but I also don't want to see him get hurt and yesterday there were definate signs that the well has run dry. He can't afford many more off days like that.... an off day in boxing is a hell of a lot more dangerous than having an off day at Tennis or Footie!

it's simple- area level fighters do not belong anywhere higher. walker has been overmatched and beaten badly, and is competitive with these area level guys. whatever the opponent, he gets hurt in almost every fight. he needs to retire; he's not tough enough to be a trial horse opponent.

If he carries on, the best thing for his team to do would be negotiate him through some more soft area competition or tough survivor opponents who aren't likely to fight back. he'll get the bbc coverage and make a bit of money. maybe at the end of it all he gets a shot at some interim intercontinental nothing belt or something for a bigger payday.

Yes i answered in another thread that i felt Walker had had too many wars and let's not forget it isn't exactly punishment against top fighters but wars and life and death struggles and against Area level fighters. Didn't he leave a job in the city's stocks and shares to be a Boxer? Nice kid with a massive heart and an honest talker, i like him and it's time he hung up his gloves i'm afraid.

Walker has a future in a wheelchair if he carries on against decent opposition.

He just doesn't know how to block shots and defend himself, so he's going to get whacked around in every single fight.

Very good posts, but I still stand by my post too. Walker's health is very important, I make no bones about that, and if , God forbid, anything bad happended to him whilst trying to win the British title I'll have to be one his supporters who has to hold my hands up and said I made mistake backing him.

Equally though, If David does claim the Londsdale belt, I hope a few of you will be the first to acknoweldge a premature dismissal of this very courageous man???

I guess it is worth bearing in mind that everyone was saying the same thing about Michael Gomez until recently.

However, Gomez is a notch or two in class above Walker, who really is very raw.

Walker had a life or death struggle with Spencer Fearon for gods sake.
