2004 National Silver Gloves Results NEEDED
Does anyone, perhaps Mel?, have the results from the 2004 National SG tournament? It is not on the USAB site and I need to verify a piece of info for a pending story. I am looking specifically for a bout between Vernon Barrett and Mondre Pope.
Any help is appreciated.

Sure don't. Only place you can get Silver Gloves results is from Ringside. I suggest you email them.

Re: 2004 National Silver Gloves Results NEEDED
Vernon Barrett won the bout. The year before he lost a close bout in the semi-finals. My son Jordan did the same exact thing. He lost in the semi-finals in '04 by 8-8 (32-27) and then won it in 2005. I saw Shawn Porter also win the JO's in 2004 and he too had lost a close bout in the 2003 JO's (in the finals).

Re: 2004 National Silver Gloves Results NEEDED
Yes, I was looking for the Silver Gloves national for that year. I had the JO info from the USAB site but the SG results are not listed. Thanks DC for the info, that confirmed my source and thanks everyone else too.
Dennis, am I the only person that didn't know until a week ago that Vernon Barrett is Vernon Paris?

Kevin, no there were probably others that didn't know about the name change. Sorry, I somehow read JO's and not SG's. Oops. I would have had the SG results on my computer at work, but not at home.

Joey is right. That website has the results of the championship bouts (just who won and who was the runner-up) and the rankings for each weight class.
Re: 2004 National Silver Gloves Results NEEDED
BTW - look at all the familiar names. Jose Garcia (Jordan beat him in the MW Trials), Isiah Thomas, Keith Thurman, Demetrius Andrade, Qa'id Muhammad, Luis Yanez, Sammy DiPace, Gary Russell, Ernie Garza, Luis Arias, Hylon Williams, Joey Dawejko, Eddie Alicea, Frankie Gomez, Alantez Fox, and the list goes on and on.

Re: 2004 National Silver Gloves Results NEEDED
I posted a 3-part story on Paris at www.sportssummary.com based on interviews conducted in the past two weeks. He tell me he has one passbook still with about 10 fights in it, but apparently lost his main book with the other 94 fights. This is why I photocopy passbooks when I can.
Re: 2004 National Silver Gloves Results NEEDED
Kevin - I probably have a bunch of results of his if I look through my records. I just glanced and found one. Vernon defeated Victor Limus of Crown on January 3, 2004 at the MI Silver Gloves via points. It was in the 132# senior (14-15) A-class. He must have defeated Thomas McKay of Kronk (he won the other 132 Senior A bout) the next day since I know Vernon made it to the National S.G. finals that year.Sportssummary wrote:I posted a 3-part story on Paris at http://www.sportssummary.com based on interviews conducted in the past two weeks.
