OK Im now really confused

Post by jameswilson »

Ruslan Chagaev comes back against Carl Drummond next year, and its listed as for the WBA heavyweight title. Valuev fights Holyfield for the same title (not an interim title or anything like that.)

What in the hell is going on? I knew if you had the WBA belt unified with another major belt they made you a super champ and then had another WBA title at the same weight, but here neither guy is unified and there are 2 titles.

:D

If you go on the website, Chagaev is the 'Champion in recess' and Valuev is the 'Champion'. However yes Bizarre...Chagaev should be fighting Valuev.

Anyone would think that the WBA are after extra sanctioning fees :witzend:

i suppose having a "champion in recess",and an "actual champion, frees them up to have an "interim champion" now?

maybe theyll have a "champion of the past" like a great fighter who once was wba champ, and a "champion of the future" who might be a prospect, someone they think might be a future great.

perhaps ,if one wins the champion in recess, actual present champion, interim champion, super champion, future champion, and past champion....they could call that man the "super-duper-past and present-no we really mean it great wba champion"?

but....if they did that, theyd have to make a really big belt.

and theyd have to create more titles,to collect more fees anyways.

no..... i guess not......maybe that was just silly......even for the wba.............right?....errrr.....right?

Basically and unsurprisingly it's another sanctioning body defrauding the meaning of the words "world title". No sense can ever be derived from their actions.

I think it's the WBA's way of finally managing to have 4 champions. Super-Champion, Regular-Champion, Champion in Recess and interim champion. I think the other organisations could learn something from the IBF.

I've no idea why Valuev couldn't have fought Ruiz for the interim title and when Chagaev was ready to return he could fight the winner.
Well actually I do, that would produce less sanctioning fees.

I can understand the principle of Champion in Recess, even if I don't like it, but how on earth can Chagaev DEFEND it? If Drummond wins, does he become the new Champion in Recess, despite never having recessed???

for what reason.

for stripping malignaggi for fighting the regarded no1 at the weight in ricky hatton.

and not having the recent phillips-williams fight for the ibf title at light middle.

the ibf are the biggest joke going in my opinion. :shame:
