CM - When we spoke previously in Manchester, you told me that Showtime were only interested in televising a Hatton fight from Britain if it were to take place at 3 or 4AM in the morning British time. Would that be the same stance for a Hatton - Spadafora fight?
JL - "Yes it would. I remember that conversation we had and up to the very minute that we spoke, up until that very moment I believed and I think I expressed this to you then, that we had Hatton - Mitchell for June 5th. We used to accomodate the five hour delay for overseas fights and we found that it wasn't having any kind of negative effect on the shows. It was basically an accommodation to our hosts in Britain, Sky, as they take delays for our big shows that happen here in the States. Sky needed to show the fights in Britain on prime time and at the time, it didn't make that much of a difference to our audience. Now, however, with the growth of Internet coverage in boxing, we find that the results of those fights are available to fight fans five hours before they hit our air. That was affecting our ratings in a negative way. As the fights become bigger, better and more compelling, for example Ricky Hatton against a Spadafora or a Vivian Harris, we want our fight fans to have the theatrical event, the drama, of seeing the fight live. We simply don't see the value anymore in investing enormous sums of money in a fight that our viewers know the results of five hours before we air it."
