Probably lots of money, lots of high profile fights and fighters and big shows
anyone who thinks otherwise is severely deluded
Do you think Sky will be happy with what they've had recently? Do you think the numbers will have been good?
In short, I'm asking you to justify your response based on recent evidence.
As you often point out, we do have a very skewed view of things on here. But I think even Joe Public must come to their senses soon - and surely the TV execs too.
Aye, he's had a shittty year alright, but he's had them before and always bounces back.
You really cant write off allegedly

He protected JC for years , feeds Amir Khan with bullshit , only has fighters fighting for the WBO titles after they win the title puts them against opponents who are ranked below 50th in the World, He trys to make the WBU a massive deal when its just another terrible wannabe World title, Puts his domestic fighters against African's after they win the Commonwealth title, Always puts the Commonwealth title before the British title probably because that is another organisation that is a bit of a joke and the BBBofC are strict. Just when you think he is down and going to be counted out he comes back with a surprise or 2 and he will again in 2009 - be completely certain of that.
With all that said cannot stand him or his monkey "Boxing Tw*t From Brentwood Who Crys When He Is Sacked"
Most of the reasons you state there actually prove Warren is teh best promoter in Europe
Please to go now and find out what the job of a PROMOTER actually is.......
Re: What next for Sports Network?
He's been 'written off' countless times before.
Everyone has ups and downs, but not everyone can keep coming back like he does.
He'll be around for as long as he wants to be in my opinion.
The sport needs competition, a few promoters doing well and keeping the game in the general public's eye, rather than just one ruling the roost.
Hopefully we can keep boxing on all the networks (itv, sky, setanta) and the game thrives.

Oh aye, you're right there. There's no way he's washed up as you can tell from the young uns signing with him.Khaosai-Galaxy wrote:Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:KG - have a look at the cards he promoted in 2008. The only reason I'm anti Sports Network is because they (with massive assistance of the media) are constantly selling what I consider to be poor matches as blockbusters.
So, Joe Public tunes in and sees a bag o'shite ergo 'boxing' suffers.

Re: What next for Sports Network?
Ian - you and many others bring out extremely valid points about the multitude of poor shows that the armchair punter is facing - I have to say there are far too many of those below par shows!!!
But - this forum and websites like yours are directing your criticisms in the wrong direction.
Its not the lobbying of places like this and the other forums where we the boxing fans will get our way - its getting the media onside and most importantly of all the TV companies to sit up and take notice - the only way they will is if the Arena's fail to fill = the TV companies on the main are not that bothered = they want their headliner - they will pay for that and there maybe some money over for a decent chief support - you will notice the amount of time boxing is on the TV - the programme is only on long enough for those 2 fights and if they finish early another fight which is already in the "can".
So if the above is the case - you could possibly argue why not direct the comments towards the fans attending the venues - they don't give a sh*t either - as a boxing fan who is loopy about the sport for a long long time I have wondered why fans only come to the venue for one fight when they have paid good money and could see maybe 8 or 9 fights - some of the drunks don't even see the fight they have paid good money for - some punters will pay their money to see their mate from the local pub or something like that fight and then they are off to the local night club - time and time again I have been party to conversations when sorting out the running order that we do not put the ticket sellers on until the fight before the headliner and I have even argued until the fight after - this ensures we have punters in the venue for TV purposes and their is a decent atmosphere - I am not spoiling any secrets their as I am sure all promotional companies do exactly the same thing.
The boxing fans want decent fights - but for me the biggest problem of all is the TV companies and their rivalry - because of that fighters cannot meet due to contract obligations to their promoter who duly has contractual obligations to the TV company - the only way around getting the best fights on to avoid the contractual obligations is the purse bids situation - and even then promoters withdraw their fighters!!!

It's strange really, because Saunderland has a similar matchmaking policy to FW, it's rare that someone from the away corner gets a win in Germany, but as said he sells a lot of tickets and gets great viewing figures

Hello AntAnt Evans wrote: Yeah, Spud, let's keep within the facts. "Europe" is a big place and NO WAY is Warren a "bigger" promoter than Wilfried Sauerland. Not in terms of ££ from TV, not in terms of ticket sales, not in terms of TV ratings, not in terms of big shows, not in terms of big-name genuine headliners. Not in terms of anything that actually matters.
Let's not be like Americans and assume No.1 in our country must surely be better than No.1 in another country. Boxing is way bigger in Germany than in UK and Sauerland Events is easily biggest promoter in Germany since 2002.
Listen mate - you know how much I cannot stand a certain boxing promoter - but how you can say Sauerland is bigger than W arren in achievements etc etc is beyond me!! if you can prove me wrong then good luck to you - but regardless of my dislike for SN - surely even you have to agree the sheer longevity of SN and Mr W arren within the sport has to be commended.
I will stress again I do not like the man or his organisation - in addition I absolutely hate the way in my humble opinion he goes about his business - but there is no doubts he has promoted some huge names, he has promoted some huge shows and whats more he will do so again in the forthcoming years whether me or you like it or not - that is quite simply a fact.
As for Sauerland - please!!!! - I have to argue he is far worse in my opinion in protecting his fighters than W arren!!! - f*ck me thats saying something too!!!

We will have to disagree - saying the Germans are better at promoting the great sport of ours is a bit like you stating UFC is a better sport than boxing !!!

Re: What next for Sports Network?
Sauerland definitely developed Abraham and Povetkin in some quite hard, purposful fights. Abraham got a big win in America this year, Povetkin will smash up Wlad early next year. Marco Huck was put in risky fights like Tokarev on the way up, and put into a very hard world title fight which he lost to Cunningham. Likewise YP Hernandez thrown in with and KO'd by Wayne Braithwaite, and that was certainly a risky fight. Mads Larsen is apparently going to challenge IBF super middle titlist Lucian Bute, and a # of unworthy super middles are being/will be put into title fights well over their ability level (ok not unlike Warren having Jennings and Lockett in world title shots)
Re: What next for Sports Network?
Warren is no-where near as big or as good as Saurland... its not even close.
