Froch V Kessler 28/2/2009?

Looks like Froch could be serious about fighting Joe.

If this is true It could meen Kessler and Taylor within the next six months. They both tough fights to win, I'm not sure he'd even be 50/50 in either, but if he came through and Calzaghe takes out Dawson a bout between the 2 could be on.

If Carl takes as many shots defending the title as he did winning it he won't get past Kessler, never mind Calzaghe....

Kessler is meant to be fighting in the US on 14 March, Carl has a mandatory obligation to face Jermain Taylor.......I think someone is telling porkies.

Yeah unfortunately you are right. It may happen, you never know, but it won't be a Unification. Froch would be stripped so it would be for the WBA title only.

....credit to Carl if he takes it....cos i don't give him much of a chance

.....i think the Taylor fight is more winnable....if he was to win that, then a fight vs Kessler is more likely to attract attention outside of Europe

Yeah but does he have to fight Taylor straight away, or does he have to do it by the end of next year for instance?

It's either a mandatory every 6 or 9 months. But didn't the WBC say he has to make 2 mandatory defences before he can have a voluntary, so I'd imagine Kessler would count as a voluntary meaning he may not be able fight anyone else other than his mandatory if he wants it to be for the WBC title.

Froch is 31 years old and he's only just stepped up to the top level, even though people have been saying he can do it for three or four years now. Get the fight on with Jermain Taylor as soon as possible and don't mess around any longer. That fight is there to be made, there is no reason why it can't happen in America next year. If Froch messes around he'll end up like Junior Witter, winning that WBC belt and not doing s**t with it.

I agree with you. Now's the time to make things happen. There's no time to waste.

LOL @ Froch having a mandatory that difficult for his first defence.

That's how you know they don't want him to have that belt.

It's standard WBC regulations for a fighter that wins a vacant belt to have 2 mandatories

Word is Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler could meet in a mouthwatering unification super-middleweight showdown early next year in Britain.
Froch holds the WBC title; Kessler, the WBA.
Froch won his world title earlier this month in his hometown of Nottingham, pounding out a 12-round decision over Canada's slick, heavy handed and previously unbeaten Jean Pascal. It was a memorable night for British boxing and for Froch, and one would expect a 'soft' first challenger for the tough, unbeaten new champion or at least a break of a few months, given that not every fight can be a big one, but no. Froch was mandated to defend against top American Jermain Taylor before he lifted his belt and 'called out' Joe Calzaghe shortly afterwards, and we know he has the Calzaghe's private number from a little stunt pulled by ITV Sport earlier this year. The Welsh great, who does lack his father's personality, was not amused when Froch phoned him up out of the blue but had done exactly the same to Clinton Woods a few years earlier. Now Kessler gets a mention, along with a prospective date: February 28. Perhaps this is just a ploy to get Calzaghe to drop his recently announced retirement plans.
Kessler lacks personality also - you don't see him laughing a lot. The man regarded as the best fighter in the super-middleweight division is coldly methodical, effective and dangerous - a 'big' super-middle, like Froch. In 42 fights the great Dane has lost only to Calzaghe and knows all about unification showdowns, having smashed Germany's Markus Beyer in three rounds in Copenhagen in October 2006 for the same WBC and WBA super-middleweight titles. Kessler, whose mother is actually English, then lost his belts to Calzaghe in Cardiff on a competitive 12-round decision but quickly regained the WBA one when Calzaghe moved up to light-heavyweight. Meanwhile, Froch picked up Joe's WBC belt.
Froch and Kessler have a combined record of 65-1 (50) and showed how dangerous they can be in their last fights: Froch marched into Pascal and refused to be beaten, while Kessler ventured to Germany and destroyed German Danilo Haussler in three rounds.
'Away' turf holds no fears for the 29-year-old Kessler, who took on Calzaghe in front of 50,000 fans in the Millennium Stadium and once licked Anthony Mundine in Oz. Kessler possesses the jab, the accuracy, the speed, the power, the temperament - the complete game - to master his opponents anywhere, Calzaghe apart. He is two years younger than Froch. He looks unmarked.
Froch is some fighter himself - strong, relentless, iron-jawed - but even in fortress Nottingham he stands a better chance with the overrated Taylor and even Calzaghe (now into his late 30s) than he does with "The Viking Warrior".

They've got 2 now :TU: :TU: They're the Anti-Warrens :D

This is how boxing should be, the best fighters in each division actively searching out and taking on the best opponents to prove they're the best, rather than claiming they're the best whilst choosing their fights on the infamous RRR! 'Risk/Reward Ratio'

Froch and Haye arer resetting the standards of what is acceptable for elite level British fighters IMO.

If Calzaghe doesn't want the Froch fight then fcuk him, bring on Kessler and Taylor

Hard to see how Froch beats Kessler - the Dane has a great chin himself, and is a better technical fighter - only Calzaghe's speed of thought and reactions beat him, and Froch doesn't really have either.

If Froch fights against Kessler the same way he did against Pascal then he gets knocked out, FFS we don't even know if Pascal was world class yet as he had a similar record to Froch. If 2009 turns out to be a great year for Froch and he beats Taylor and Kessler then fantastic, fair play to him. But until then I'm not convinced.
