Behold the humbling of a legend! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E99uj9zX ... re=related

He really got his ass handed to him that night, exposing all his deficiencies as a fighter-namely that he can't hit a moving target that hits back.

You want to see REAL boxing, watch Terry Norris in action, not some pick and choose bum like SRL.

I thought you'd be more appreciative Ringsider. Turns out you're a hater.

Fact: Leonard was installed as the heavy favorite but Terry shook it off like the great fighter he was.

Fact: Not even Leonard's mind games had any effect on Terry. Psyche outs work on loser, not legends.

Fact: Leonard proved beyond all doubt he cannot deal with a moving target no matter how frightening he may look on the heavy bag.

Fact: the master got schooled in this fight.

Fact: Norris creamed a fighter that hadnt lost in 11 years and shook up the boxing world in the biggest upset since Ali-liston-outside of Tyson Douglas of course. No performance could ever equal that.

One other thing. Had this fight taken place years sooner, i'm sure Terry would have dismembered Ray in much the same way. As Terry Norris put it "Tonight is the end of one legend and the beginning of another"

Why would anyone compare Norris-Leonard to Ali-Holmes? Ali was shot!

Now you're starting up with insults I see. That means I've won.

What's the matter, can't carry on an intelligent conversation?

Answer the question.. Who was favored to win: Norris or Leonard?

Answer: Leonard by a 3-1 margin so why should anyone believe there was anything wrong with him? Norris was just plain better than him, better at every phase of the game-boxing, slugging, toughness, chin, and ability to dictate the pace of a fight and was always the one in control. Ray Leonard was never in control of the fight.

I always knew Ray was nothing more than a runner anyways and when faced with an opponent who could box, bang, and move, he wouldnt have the slightest idea what to do. As you can see, this is exactly what happened in their fight.

Even when Ray managed to make his way inside, he couldnt get anything going because Terry would simply tie him up the way good boxers are supposed to.

Opponents like Benitez are hardly the kind that are going to get any opponent's respect. Right hand crazy Hearns that hadn't been taught the basics of clinching, over the hill lightweight and middleweight who was really more retired, none of these deficient opponents possessed the kind of versatility of a great all around fighter of a Norris. That's why Terry won.

Benitez and Hearns don't get your respect. that pretty much says it all

if Norris was such a 'great all round fighter' how would you rate his chin? generally I consider a good chin to be fundamental to an all round fighter....

The Benitez that beat Duran and Hope at JMW would have beaten Norris, and as for Tommy Hearns at 154, he'd have slaughtered Terrible Terry.

By this unrealistic criteria, John Holman was a better fighter than Ezzard Charles, because he stopped him less than a yr after he fought Marciano for the title. And while we're at, Sugar Ray Leonard was 34 yrs old, and hadn't fought in 14 months when he lost to Norris. Norris was 29 and an active fighter when he got stopped by journeyman Keith Mullings.

I'm afraid not. You see, Wilfred had little going for him. A good boxer according to 1977 standardss but a bit slow by Terry Norris standards. Even Ray Leonard proved to be much quicker and Wilfred was 0 threat in the department of scoring knockouts.

Hearns at 154 could have beaten Terry but we're talking peak hitman with an extra 9 pounds and three extra years experience. As far as chins go, Tommy rates no higher than Terry. So proving that Hearns would slaughter Terry in a fight is not going to prove easy. Good luck.

By the way, your analogies using Ezzard Charles and Ray Leonard is rather weak. Try something else.

Benitez beat Norris? Get real! He couldnt even beat Sugar Ray Leonard. What feeble hope would he have against the likes of Terry Norris?

And who cares about Duran?

Lightweight Duran of the 70s is far, far from the fat, pudgy, slow, lead footed, unmotivated Duran of 1982. And you can ask Kirkland Laing and he'll tell you.

Lifeless Maurice Hope? Get real. Hope had to have seen better days.

I see your point now Elton.
Which is why I said from the start that Wilfred is a fine fighter but by the standards of those days. Put anyone next to Antonio Cervantes and they will also seem faster by comparison. Aaron Pryor looked like a blazing comet next to him while the fight lasted.

Speed is relative though. Next to Leonard, Wilfred seemed slow and always came off second best while Ray had this same problem when faced with the superior speed of Terry Norris.

Wilfredo is far too slow for Terry I think which is why Terry would defeat him. He is surely much the faster of the two.

I knew you would finallly see the light when the facts were spelled out for you. Glad to be of help and I'm happy you liked the video and can finally appreciate the brilliance of Norris. :D

and Thomas hearns was 29 when a clubfighter named Barkley knocked him out. If Hearns is still allowed legend status and we all know he had a glass jaw, then why Norris not be at least on equal terms as one of Ray's most dangerous opponents? Fact is, no opponent throughout Ray's career had the kind of speed and moves or defensive capabilities that Norris possessed.

We all know you cant hit what is in constant motion. Nobody was able to cope with Norris other than the great Julian Jackson.

I'm confused again
No stupid. I would exclude the times he lost on foul or was past his prime. Norris lost something like 6 times on foul which he was prone to doing. He didnt have to do it he was so incredibly talented that he could humble the best fighters without breathing hard.

The brown fight he hadnt taken seriously and was caught much the same way Hearns was by Barkley. But unlike Thomas Hearns, he was able to avenge his loss eaily. You saw the REAL Terry Norris in the rematch pasting and humiliating Brown in much the same manner he did to Ray Leonard. Neither Brown nor Leonard ever were the same afterwards having been destroyed physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Norris was quite simply the best I ever saw at overcoming adversity outside of the great Saad Muhammud. He did what the experts said he absolutely could never do. He came back from a devestating knockout and became champion and humbler of ring legends. He defied the odds and made me lots of money
