Here's an article from The Times on the tragic fight between Ingle and Botile, niether boxer has come out of it unscathed.

u always had that feeling that life after boxing was gonna be tough for ingle.

he was so dedicated and wrapped up in it all.

kind of how he fought in the ring.

i still say the cornerwork was shoddy in the fight.

they kept sending him out and he was getting an awful beating.

the ingle situation was tragic, but its unfair to blame the corner. boxing is a dangerous game, the fighter chooses to get into the ring, he can turn his back at any time, dont blame the corner, they get caught up in the adrenaline and passion too !!!

What a great boxer going to New York and beating a faded Jones, his corner yelling at him to beat the poof and then his hard fought loss to Naz. That night I really thought that he was going to beat Naz, he cam back at him like nobody before (was his slow start down to his corner getting him to run out of the ring?) until Naz found that punch that stopped him.

Good to see him ringside at some shows. One of my favourite boxers of all time.

Jesus, is it really 8 years ?
Paul had weight problems leading up to this fight.
He was very late for the weigh in, looked unbelievably gaunt when he did turn up, and word was he had to put a hell of a workout in on the day of the weigh in to make it.
I'm no medical man, but do recall the arena being scorching hot and I'm convinced dehydration was a major factor here.
The same night saw Esham and Sinclair suffer brutal knock outs.
Thankfully Ryan's fight was a straightforward affair.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and in respect of the corner, I'm sure if they had their chance again they'd pull him out.
That said, knowing Paul, that would have been a difficult thing to achieve.

A sad story. I sent flowers to the hospital from all the lads at the gym. It hit us all 'cos we were ringside when he boxed Hamed.

I was also there, very brutal night. I took a 3 year sabbatical from boxing after seeing that series of fights from rinside but came back and loving the sport more than ever again.

Ingle's lifestyle was very similar to Hatton's was it not?

i dont think anyone there that night will forget it - i can still see a spray of blood illuminated by the ring lights with the punch that put ingle down at the end.
calzaghe v woodhall came straight after but the atmosphere had gone from the arena. dont remember it being hot at all, but a lot of time has passed.
i can remember going to a xmas panto the next day with my gf and her kid and wondering why i couldnt just enjoy watching something like that instead of seeing a man beaten half to death (no-one was sure then if ingle would make it)
it's hard not to question why you love boxing in circumstances like that.
then the following thursday an amateur coach rang me and asked if i wanted to go to a show with his boxers and i was back in again. hooked without really understanding why.
there was a benefit night for ingle at a show in hull not long after (maybe eastman v baker?) and it was good to see everyone rally around him but he has a terrible struggle every day. hopefully he will accept the invitations to the BBBC dinners and get included again. Ingle still has the respect of the British boxing community for so many great nights. what a fighter.
