According to Calzaghe nobody is worthy to face him, but he is only interested in money now, and maintaining his unbeaten record.

I've had a love hate relationship with Calzaghe, he's a great fighter, but his career has been about as satisfying for me as a hand job from Abu Hamza.

Warren promoted the Hopkins fight - another classic bit of using a totally wrong statement as a fact to try and bash him with.

He took the Jones fight for one last payday. What's wrong with that?
My mistake - however, Calzaghe still wanted that fight.

There's everything wrong with Jones as a farewell fight - it was completely cynical and rank hypocrisy on Joe's part.

Joe hasn't retired yet either, so for all we know we could have another fight of the calibre of Jones Jr.

Or one of the calibre of Dawson

If he fights Dawson I would be impressed - cannot see it happening however, as Joe will say Dawson has 'no marquee value.' He'd be right, but it's a fight which would prove he can beat someone other than old men at 175.

I would actually like to see a rematch with Bernard after his fight with Pavlik, but totally understand why people wouldn't want to.

But he's an old man and you have been slagging Calzaghe off for facing him in the first place.

I think Dawson is such a worthy opponent, though worthy doesn't always, or even often, matter!

Wins over Johnson, Tarver, and the current cruiser king, Adamek - even if Adamek seemed to have been weight drained and uncertain of himself under McGirt's tutelage. That is some good form. Adamek's recent cruiser successes make Dawson look good, though far be it from me to give Dawson credit for things done by another man.

Dawson has himself a nice little division, one day the big names will come to him when he's carved his niche, and there's fighters on the up like Cloud and Shumenov who look ones to watch for the future. As noted on the current scene, Shumenov is about 6-0 and he's already beaten Montell Griffin, Donnell Wiggins, and Epifanio Mendoza (a replacement for Kelvin Davis!).

Calzaghe has already said that he won't fight Dawson or Froch as they're not worthy though

My point is that Calzaghe thought Hopkins was an easy touch going into that fight, and definetly did going into the Jones fight.

Hopkins fight against Pavlik provides me with enough evidence to think that Hopkins could turn in a more effective performance, and he tends to do better in rematches anyway - I know this sounds slightly mental on my part, but I think you understand what I mean.

I wasn't really that excited about him facing Hopkins or Jones Jr, I thought both were poor spectacles, but I think a rematch has intrigue only because of the performance against Pavlik where Hopkins looked busier and more effective forever.

Calzaghe had the chance to go Prime v Prime with RJJ or Hopkins at around 2001+

Hopkins for the right amount would have gladly gone to SMW, as long as there was a good payday, os obviously would have to be in MSG or someting.

As for RJJ, RJJ would have gladly gone any weight Calzaghe would want.

Calzaghe is going to have the massive question mark on his record, of not going Prime v Prime against a Boxing Legend.

Sad, especially since Calzaghe would have had alot more respect if he had a loss

When did he have the chance to fight a prime RJJ? You are just making stuff up.

So you are saying that Jones (regarded as the best PFP in the world at the time and eyeing a move up to heavyweight) would have slimmed down to SMW to face Calzaghe.

Do you even believe the rubbish you write?

Calzaghe has plenty of respect, just not from the likes of you

didnt hopkins agree to a fight? and then turn round and demand double the money he was getting?
Yes he did. I've never blamed Calzaghe for not facing Hopkins earlier - Bernard was sitting in front of the contract, and suddenly demanded twice the money - silly really, because looking at it with hindsight, he would probably have beaten Joe back then.

I don't recall Calzaghe v Jones ever being close to being made. Joe would have had to have moved up in weight, and by his own admission wouldn't have fancied his chances against Jones whatsoever, which is why their recent fight angered me so much. Why face a guy you said yourself you didn't think you could have beaten in his prime, when he is clearly way way past his best.

i dont think i could sit through another calzaghe-hopkins fight. but its alot easier to look busier against pavlik than it is calzaghe.
I know, but what was notable was that we haven't seen Nard fight so aggressively since....well, I challenge anyone to name a fight where he fought at such a high tempo and with such bad intentions, even agaiinst Tito he fought off the back foot more.

I'd guess it's got something to do with the fact that Pavlik was more straight-up/ open/ slow and generally stationary than any fighter Hopkins has fought since.... well since I can remember.... since Joppy certainly (after Joppy it was, umm, allen, DLH, eastman taylor tarver wright calzaghe, all of whom it is very difficult to tee off on, much more so than Pavlik).

i've seen people say 'i just don't understand how Hopkins was so defensive vs Joe/others and so aggressive vs Pavlik' where for me it was a simple matter of how well hop's offence and movement matched up with Pavlik's defence and movement. if he'd fought someone like Pavlik every time he'd have been pretty aggressive every time, I'm sure...
