The Last Time You Were As Excited About A Fight As Haye-Klit

Post by Herol »

I've followed this sport for around 11 years.

This is by far the most exciting fight ever in that time, so I can't really think of a more exciting prospective fight ever.

Come to think of it, I've always considered Haye to be the most exciting active fighter, because of his skill, power, take on all comers attitude, ability to go down in fights and come back, the way he carries himself when things go wrong like his interview after Thompson. I am realising that I can't really think of anybody in history who was as exciting with the possible exceptions of Nigel Benn & Muhammad Ali.

With you there but Haye taking the heavyweight title from Klit is much bigger. Pac is essentially a natural featherweight.

Barrera-Morales 2 is probably the most excited i've been, although it didn't live up to the very high expectations that the first battle set

I am excited about this fight, but i'd probably be more excited if David was facing the other brother....yes the more boring Klitschko, but i'd see that as a pick'em fight....here i see Vitali as a clear (yet not overwhelming) favourite

To be honest, I'm not excited. We would all like to think that david can find that "magic punch" and connect with the jaw and knock Klit out, but I honestly can't see it happening. a boring, fight in which Haye is totally dominated and pulls out during the later rounds seems likley. I mean- I'd love to be proved wrong, but can't see it.

Look what happened when Haye got hit on the chin against Barrett, and look how many shots it took to get him out of there, then take a look at the shots Lennox Lewis landed on the button when he fought Vitali and he didn't budge, taking this into account along with the height, reach & approximately 2 stone weight advantage I only see one outcome and that is a Klitschko KO

If he had purely aimed to box at his highest level, then he'd still be at feather/super-feather IMO. I'm not saying he isn't a fantastic fighter at lightweight, but his moves have been money/legacy orientated, as they always are. Naturally his OPTIMUM should be lower.

i'm not sure mate, to me if he is walking around at 150-155 (sounds reasonable?) then the draining to get down to 126/130 would mean it isn't his optimum weight. to me his activity/ punch output upped a little bit as soon as he went to 135, didnt' have those lulls in output (tho its difficult to judge from 1 fight)

Yeah nice fight, but much as I like Haye, unfortunately he has NO chance here.

Sure Haye has a decent punch, but no harder than Lewis, or the Sanders left hook for instance. He's going in with just about the toughest heavyweight proposition out there: iron chin, big punch - a massive giant who's an intelligent & very crafty fighter to boot.

Once Haye gets clipped, he's so vunerable his game plan goes straight out the window, as we saw in the Barrett fight. Vitali will be hurting him with jabs...no wonder he's jumped at this fight.

Looks like the chess playing Klitchkos have check mated DH here - the Wlad fight was a winnable fight for Haye, but somehow he's ended up with big bruv instead...

I disagree. He has always been huge at whatever weight until fighting De La Hoya. He has naturally gained weight as he's got older and trying to combat that would have been detrimental to him.

You're not serious?!

The most exciting fight in 11 years? A lumbering giant who is ring rusty v our own little upstart in the heavyweight division.

Love Haye to bits, and yes he is exciting, but this is not the most exciting fight since 1997.

What about Holyfield v Lewis? Morales v Barrera? Even Mayweather v Hatton was a more exciting prospective battle. What about the build-up to Calzaghe and Kessler? Naz v Barrera?

I appreciate your enthusiasm though :D

I was very excited for Calzaghe vs Kessler. :TU:

I don't think there's currently a fighter I really feel for at the moment, so I'm generally just watching because I enjoy boxing, not because I'm emotionally attached to one of the fighters. Actually, I was sad about Cotto, Mijares and Pavlik losing this year. They're 3 fighters I really enjoying watching when they're winning.

I am excited about Haye vs Klitschko. Maybe a 7/10 at the moment. It will no doubt increase with a good build up.

Yeah, me too....

not being facetious because fair play to Herol, it will be a big fight and I don't want to knock anyone's enthusiasm of the sport - there are so few of us :)

Nice to get a mention off Bunce on Setanta the other night though boys! He said he is often on here arguing with us?! What's his username?

Hatton-Mayweather is the fight I've been most excited for.

Then probably Jones-Ruiz.

Then probably Naz-Barrera...

Then probably Lewis-Tyson

Haye will need all his speed and more guile than he has ever had to go the distance in this fight to win a decision.

However the most probable outcome is that after outfoxing Vitali for 5 rounds, Haye gets tired after so much movement, Vitali lands a few and leaves Haye in a crumpled heap around the sixth.

I hope I am wrong. The fight will be a great night out for London Boxrec members.

Haye is a natrual warrior and he has avoided no one. He has done it alone and he and Adam Booth have done the best possible job in managing his career.

But Vitali is so freaking tough and determined, and this added to his physical advantages and power spell curtains for David.

If Haye can keep moving and land frequently enough he might keep Vitali honest. Apart from a decision Haye's only hope is a cuts win.

If I were to have a bet I can see this fight being similar to Vitali's win over the prime Hide and Haye are very similar fighters.

Good luck Haye.
