Froch "respect" to Calzaghe
Froch "respect" to Calzaghe
Here is a bit from Carl Froch in Boxing Monthly from an interview in January 2005.
.....................
BM: Calzaghe-Lacy in March. Who wins?
CF: Jeff Lacy is the top man in our division and he knocks Calzaghe out. Top athlete, great attitude, ambitious, big puncher. We’re the same age but he’s got that little bit more experience and edge than me at the minute. But one day we will have a super fight.
I’ve no respect for Calzaghe. His dad can talk all the bollocks he wants. [In last month’s issue, Enzo Calzaghe referred to Froch as a “third-division clown who can’t box, can’t punch and gets knocked from pillar to post.”] Get your 10oz Reyes on and I’ll see you in the ring. That’s how we’ll settle this argument. And I’d prefer to fight Joe in Cardiff.
Enzo’s just shown himself up. He knows his son gets knocked spark out by Carl Froch. Joe’s made for me; a come-forward southpaw who’ll walk right onto my shots. He’s a tough warhorse warrior but he’s hit the deck a couple of times lately. He’s not what he was.
...................
Didn't he say on Bunce last week that Lacy was nothing and that he always said Calzaghe would easily beat him.
............................
Also in 2005:
Carl Froch: 'Calzaghe is nothing but a bully'
http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=4633&more=1
I think in 2004 he said something along the lines of - only the fact that I haven't doen 12 rounds stops me beating him now.
..................................
And people wonder why Calzaghe is fed up with hearing Froch shouting out his name.

Exactly. I think the only boxers who don't talk bollocks at one point or another, are the ones who don't talk at all.
I dunno why we need a thread on this anyway to be fair, we're having some decent debate in the Froch v Taylor thread, Id have imagined this could have fitted in with the discussions/arguments/fisticuffs there.
Re: Froch "respect" to Calzaghe
My point in putting this up, wasn't that I dislike Froch. Quite the conntrary, I do like him. But him getting uppity about disresepct from Calzaghe is a bit rich.jameswilson wrote:mark thompson wrote:jameswilson wrote:Yeah Calzaghe has never contradicted himself ever has he?

Careful Gobbles, most only like to point out Calzaghe and Hatton hypocrisy on this forum.

Froch is just trying to goad Calzaghe into fighting him by hook or by crook - that's all there is to it. He isn't going to get the fight by saying he admires Joe and thinks he has lovely ears now is he?

I don't think Chambers can be blamed for which two British fighters Boxrec rate the highest, but to be fair half those match-ups would be decent enough.mark thompson wrote:so according to the boxrec rankings you want too see :>Chambers2 wrote:As a British Boxing fan I just want the best fighters in Britian to fight each other, surely that's not too much to ask for

Re: Froch "respect" to Calzaghe
The best fighters in Britain are:
Hatton, Witter, Calzaghe, Froch, Haye, Enzo, Hide, Moore, Thaxton, Khan, Murray, Cook, Mitchell, Arthur, Munroe, Hunter, Dunne (he's almost British) Napa.
There are some awesome fights to be made out of that lot, unfortunately the only one that we've seen so far is Haye Vs Enzo and that's only because Haye bent over backwards to make it happen and Arthur-Cook as they've got the same promoter
Hatton-Witter
Calzaghe-Froch
Enzo-Hide
Thaxton-Khan
Thaxton-Murray
Khan-Murray
Cook-Mitchell (same gym so might be iffy)
Arthur-Mitchell
Munroe-Hunter
Dunne-Hunter
Munroe-Dunne
Lets Get Em On!!!!!

Anthony Small maybe should get a mention, but we'll see what happens in the Rhodes fight first. I like Small, but I think Rhodes will have the better of him

Re: Froch "respect" to Calzaghe
Enzo Calzaghe is one of the most disrespectful people in boxing. he proved this with his comments after David Haye starched Enzo Mac in 2 rounds. I wish that more people would acknowledge this.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7301849.stm
I therefore side with Froch on this.
I'd love to see Hide vs Enzo Mac - would hope for a double KO.

Re: Froch "respect" to Calzaghe
I don't really have a big beef with Enzo, but I can't help but associate the lack of dignity in defeat shown by his trainer with he himself. I also think he makes excuses a bit 'I didn't do what I was supposed to' should be translated to 'Haye stopped me from doing what I was supposed to do because he is better than me'.gobbles wrote: Well, I'll be cheering on Enzo, because he is

Terry D wrote:I generally like both Enzo's. Enzo M's post-fight 'well at least I'm not a playboy' spiel was awful. Enzo just did a bit of a Barry Fry, when Fry joined Brum, and went a bit mad at the higher level. Enzo would hammer Hide. So would Enzo Mac.
Barry Fry was always mad

F*ck me - are you finally realising boxing is about hype - its about fighters finding angles both in and out of the ring to have a "pop" at their opponent.
What you have highlighted and is nothing new.
Whats more - I like the "sledging" that goes on outside of the ring - it brings even more interest to boxing as long as it doesn't get out of hand.
Re: Froch "respect" to Calzaghe
The point in highlighting it was in response to the many people who were posting saying that Calzaghe was being disrespectful to Froch - and also to point out how he is lying when he says that "I always knew Calzaghe would beat Lacy"Spud wrote:gobbles wrote:Here is a bit from Carl Froch in Boxing Monthly from an interview in January 2005.

Re: Froch "respect" to Calzaghe
I will repeat boxing is about hype - and many things are said "tongue in cheek" or "porkies" are stated to increase the hype in a fighter or a particular fight - there are some fights which would never have created any interest whatsoever if it were not for the hype generated on forums like this and in the media - long may it continue even if the odd porky is told - there is no sensational revelation in my opinion when a fighter is caught out in his inconsistency about opinions on another fighter.gobbles wrote:The point in highlighting it was in response to the many people who were posting saying that Calzaghe was being disrespectful to Froch - and also to point out how he is lying when he says that "I always knew Calzaghe would beat Lacy"Spud wrote:gobbles wrote:Here is a bit from Carl Froch in Boxing Monthly from an interview in January 2005.

Lets be brutally honest here - me, you and hods and hods of others on here - our opinions change for a variety of reasons and because they do - it creates debate/argument on and interest on these forums - and lets face it - we all thoroughly enjoy winding each other up when we are caught out - just like promoters do and just like the fighters do.
